Actually your comment doesn't bother me at all but if you already knew you were going to get so much hate for your comment then why post it? Was it so you could enjoy reading it yourself? ;).

Not trying to be self-rightous but take the high road, this isn't a forum for pissing people off so if you know you're going to do that then be kind enough and restrain yourself.

To join in the discussion and give my opinion?

A lot of people's comments piss me off - intentionally or not. I don't see what she wrote as intentionally incendiary. She posted her opinion. She prefaced it because she knew it might ruffle feathers and was acknowledging that fact so that if people DID react viscerally - they would at least understand she wasn't trying to piss them off - but rather accepts that they might be. There's a difference.

Interesting theory......And.......you donated how much, especially without an agenda???

Irrelevant.

While it's great that Apple is donating to help out these victims in China, how about donating to help people in our own country?

I'm wondering, are Americans so poor nowadays that they have to beg for donations when there are, according to the BBC, about 200 dead and 11,000 injured in an earthquake in China? If you asked someone in Boston, would they rather take money away from people in China who lost their homes and have nothing to eat and no water?

Tell that the parents of the dead child.

That comment is just stupid. Of course the death of 200 people is more important than the death of three. And of course telling that to the parents of a dead child would be cruel and insensitive. (And why "the parents"? As if killing an orphan would be any lesser crime? ) Would you tell dozens parents who lost a child in China during an earthquake they are less important? And what would you tell the many other parents who lost a child yesterday, the day before, and every day before that? They don't count because it wasn't shown on TV?

way more important than the boston bombing just saying

There's no comparison. Two totally different events, regardless of the number of casualties. Same goes for the fertilizer plant explosion... that's a human-created disaster that, frankly, never should've happened. Corporate greed.

Kudos to Apple for extending this donation to the Chinese disaster.

Tell that the parents of the dead child.

Sometimes I still wonder what this world has turned into.

It was wrong of the commentor to compare the China earthquake to the Boston Bombing. Money can rebuild buidings, and China needs that, but money can not repair broken hearts.

I think that would've taken it too far and possibly mocked the number 8.

I wouldn't be surprised if the people Apple gave the money directly to didn't ask for all 8's in the donation amount. I used to work for a cellular company upon activating the phone Chinese customers never failed to beg for a phone number with as many 8's in it as possible, and of course no 4's. They were to the annoying point that the company fixed the computers so we customer's couldn't choose their own number, thankfully.

I am in awe of some of the posts. The analogies and/or comparisons.

Let's just say that it's great for Apple to donate to the cause and be done with it. How much/how little and how it compares to other companies or events is just silly and not needed.

will pray

will burn incense for the victims, their families, the injured and the young, and old..... namaste.

good gesture yes, but wth?? they donate more oversees than to domestic causes? its their money to do with as they wish, but really... smh...

My thoughts exactly. I'd rather see it go to the people in West, Texas who lost close to everything.

Would that money have been sent to China if Apple didn't have the majority of its production there? Probably not. My opinion is that it's pure business and nothing more.

Call me cynical, but I think this is just to offset some of the heat they're facing in China.

Obviously a good use of their money though.

I agree. Apple didn't donate anything to Japan after the earthquake there, only gave customers the option of adding on a donation when checking out.

It's a good thing of course, but shouldn't the Chinese government be using their stolen money on it?

The translation is WRONG. There is NOTHING regarding their apple devices on that front page.

My Chinese language is not too wonderful but here's a literal translation:

Let hope in heart to heart space transmit.

We with respect to due to Sichuan earthquake engulfed all that feeling grief/pain, with regards to all save/help workers fill with respect. Hope dead peace/rest, living endure/strong.
-Apple logo-

Roughly these translate to:

Let us fill each other with hope.
We are feeling grief and pain for all that the Sichuan quake has caused. We pay our respects and thanks to all rescue workers. May the dead rest in peace and the living stay strong.

You're thinking Bill Gates, not Microsoft. The two are no longer one and the same.

"Microsoft founder Bill Gates is well known for his massive giving, but the company is no slouch, either. In the past 30 years, Microsoft employees have contributed $1 billion to tens of thousands of nonprofits. Add together the company's donations of cash, software, and services, and the total exceeds $6.5 billion. Some 65% of employees participate in the company's giving program, and since 2005, they've volunteered more than 2 million hours. Microsoft matches eligible employee donations to charities each year up to $12,000." : Motley Fool, 4/19/2013
5 Leading Companies in Philanthropy.

United Way Worldwide list Microsoft in the Top 10 most generous corporations

I could go on but since these were the first two hits on google, you try it.

In other news, Sichuan officials all buy their wives / mistresses pink Porche Panameras; quake victims still destitute.

(Should note, I'm not trying to belittle the tragedy of this event or the kind gesture that Apple has made, I just hope this money reaches the people it's supposed to)

More than Apple. They also donated more for the Hurricane Sandy cause than Apple did. On America's own turf, Samsung donated more than America's darling, Apple. Some more rollyeyes are in order.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Apple is donating $8 million PLUS equipment... I would be that comes to more than Samsung's $9.63 million. But who's counting? That's a lot of money no matter how you slice it.
