Do you realize how much Apple will be charging for six cores? $6,000

At least! I wouldn't be surprised. There are a lot of professionals who use Macs for work, and they are forced to pay whatever exorbitant price Apple set. The problem is that these machines are no long Pro machines having only 1 kind of port and only 16 GB of RAM.

Lame that the discounts are temporary but I'll now be buying the 5k thanks to the price drop.
Hm, reading through this thread has me second guessing my intention. I thought I could get over the plastic housing but now people have me thinking twice.

Pathetic all round. Steve Jobs will be spinning in his grave at this travesty. Hundreds of thousands of people on the payroll and they can't design a decent case for this thing. Jonny Ive should be fired along with the rest of the so called top execs. Over 30 years an Apple fan boy...not any more :-(

How much profit was in it at the original price?

What this monitor lacks is backward compatible ports.
Instead it has more USB-c ports.
Why didn't it have an SD slot, gigabit Ethernet, 3 or more USB-A ports?
So even if you buy this, you still need all the dongles to plug in your old stuff...

If they had announced a new Mac Pro, this might've gotten me on board. But nope. No new Mac Pro.

They probably learned the absolute wrong lesson from their self-inflicted injuries on the 2013 redesign and have decided no one wants pro machines...

Tim and Schiller are CLOWNS !

they tried to get away with ripping apple's customers off and failed miserably

they keep thinking apple customers are dumb and will sign blank checks at anything apple spews no matter how neutered their latest products are

I don't attribute it to malignant attitudes. They're probably just so disconnected from average people that they have no idea what money means and what professionals actually do.

The 4K Monitor is a poor value seeing as it's a tiny 21.5" panel. You can get the top rated Dell 4K 27" for the same price.
The point is the pixel density. After using a 5K iMac for the last two years my eyes can't go back. I'd rather buy a 21.5" 4K display than a 27" one.

With the Dell comparison, you're also forgetting Thunderbolt 3, seamless software integration (e.g. brightness), and P3 colour gamut.

The amount of complaining over a price drop is unreal to me. I also don't understand why everyone thinks this monitor is so hideous. It's not gorgeous, but it's not the ugliest monitor ever like a lot of people are saying. I'm probably going to pick it up at this price. It's not a bad price for a 5k and really all I need is a USB-A adapter then and maybe an HDMI if I want to watch something on my 50" TV.

It's the ugliest lcd ever sponsored by Apple, that's a fact.

Apple is spreading pure BS that they designed these screens with LG!

If that's true, then Apple assigned their least experienced intern to LG because those monitors show absolutely no Apple design aesthetic.

Design is more than visuals. The ports and display panel are part of the design stage...

Apple is full of crap lately and can't even make their own monitors anymore. It seems like Apple is slowly, but surely, getting out of the serious computer business.

When iPhone tanks, Apple will have nothing to fall back upon. You see, Apple, your iOS products are not serious productivity tools no matter how many times Tim Cook says it. People will always come back to desktops to do their real work. And now that you are essentially out of the desktop and real pro market (not the fake "pro" like your laughably un-pro MacBook "pros"), good luck.

I agree with this. I like my iPad Pro but it isn't a professional computing tool. The iPhone may ironically turn out to be the product that kills Apple (because of arrogance and bad leadership insisting on focusing the entire company on that one product line ... and a car).

How close do you lean into your computer monitor? It's not a cell phone. I'd rather have a 32" 4k display over a 27" 4k or 5k. I'd even consider the 40" Phillips, but it trades off too much image quality for price at the size.

Thunderbolt 3 is a useless joke, I don't want that on my monitor. Software integration, really? The monitor should just dumbly display what the computer tells it to and hardware buttons/controls are way better than screwing around with driver on the computer. P3 is referring to a colour space, not a colour gamut; you really should try to understand what these terms mean and not just believe that since Apple's marking engine says it's great, it's great.

Agreed! If they want to help ease the pain, just drop then price to something resembling fair market.

It'll still be overpriced for such a crippled machine unless they throw in a $500 gift card for the new Dongle kiosks they'll be opening in all the upscale department stores.

What is the point of buying 5K monitor now when the iPhone can only take 4K videos? Will the text be too small to see? I am a programmer.

Maybe some people use their computers for more things than playing back cheesy videos they shoot of their cats?

I wonder if this means simply a speed-bumped iMac in the spring. No re-design...because we were asleep at the wheel (Apple Car).

Isn't it kind of weird that Microsoft came out with an Apple-looking $3,000 computer/display (Surface Studio) and Apple came out with a PC-looking display and is discounting it a-la normal-PC-world practice? Not that I have any reason to say it's a bad thing. It's probably a very nice display and definitely a better value than the previous Thunderbolt display.

Go ahead and complain, and buy your value displays, power to ya. These are awesome, simple as that. I own a very nice Dell 4k 24", wonderful display, but i've got a feeling these best the Dells, and are Apple displays in generic housings.

And you show me another 21" 4k with 500nits. 21" monitors invariably max out at 250 nits. This one is twice as bright. I like bright 4k displays :D, and although they are asking Apple prices, you get what you pay for.

Do you want to know the REAL reason why Apple is suddenly dropping prices on new devices?

Because of this, this one product caught Apple with its pants way down around their ankles..caught them of guard..caught them resting on the biggest lorals in history..

This advert is even better then any Apple advert of late.

Agreed. Nice looking product. Classy commercial (Microsoft marketing has been so horribly tacky; is the Balmer era finally dead and buried?).

The aesthetics are definitely copying -er- taking cues from Apple in various places ... But superseding Apple in the ultimate target and function... if we are to believe this thing can perform, and not burn out prematurely, with those tiny components.

Too damned bad about the operating system.

How bad ARE the new MacBook pros selling? If they had planned this already, these lower peripheral prices would have been the starting point after the event. The only thing that makes sense is this is some kind of damage control...
The new MBP is their best selling to date.

I think all of the cost for this thing went to the IPS P3 display, the P3 being the key. That's important to me. But yes, the thing is ugly as f***.
