Along with dropping the prices on all of its USB-C adapters accessories to help new MacBook Pro owners transition to USB-C more affordably, Apple has also introduced some significant price cuts to the 4K and 5K LG UltraFine Displays that were announced at its October 27 Mac event.

The LG UltraFine 5K Display is now priced at $974, a $325 price cut from its original price of $1,299.95.

The LG UltraFine 4K Display is now priced at $524, a $175 price cut from its original price of $699.95.

Each of LG UltraFine Display was designed in partnership with Apple to work specifically with the new MacBook Pro. The displays connect to the Apple's new MacBook Pro machines over Thunderbolt 3 and have features like built-in USB-C ports, charging capabilities, stereo speakers, P3 wide color gamut support, and on the 5K monitor, a camera and a microphone.

LG's 4K display is available for purchase immediately from the online Apple Store and will ship out to customers in five to six weeks. The 5K Display is not yet available for purchase, with Apple planning to launch it in December.

The price drops on the two displays are labeled as "Special Pricing" and will last until the end of the year. Apple also plans to discount its USB-C adapters until the end of 2016.

[doublepost=1478319450][/doublepost]Apple Now decrease Macbook pro prices, Thats it we want a discount, We love Apple but i dont think they care about our Opinions and they say they work on how user interect with our machine!!! is it dongles ?... Anyone else with me ?

This is quite possibly the ugliest display I've ever seen. Truly incredible the Apple associated themselves with such mediocrity.

Well, honestly, as a retoucher, I want my display to be as unassuming and neutral as possible. The LG fits that bill—to a fault. Compared to Apple's old monitors, sure, it's ugly. But it's not dealbreaker-ugly, especially if the actual display recreates wide color accurately.

Mmh… so Apple tries whatever they can to make the transition go smoothly by making dongles and displays cheaper.

To me it seems quite clear that they get much more pushback than expected, and try to steer against it.

They should have though about that a tad earlier, as they decided to remove Mag-Safe, the SD-Slot, HDMI and all of the USB-A ports from a pro machine.

I was in for buying a maxed out MacBook Pro 15. Effectively, Apple lost a 5k€ sale with me this year (though I will probably buy when there is DDR4/32GB support).

Yes, the tool bar and the new displays are great, I appreciate that. In terms of performance this is no significant step forward from my 1st gen Retina (no thanks to Intel), but I could live with that.

However, in terms of practical usability it's an epic mess:

Not every user needs all of the ports I listed above, but the vast majority of users needs at least one or two of them. Now pretty much everybody must carry a dongle.
Killing all these ports without need was not courage, but arrogance.

Not providing a MagSafe-like solution for USB-C charging was the icing on the rotten cake. And don't get me started on the „thinnest“ Macbook ever…

The fire sale begins this early? Holy hell is it panic mode in Cupertino?

LG sure knows how to put the 'GL' in Ugly with this monitor.

Wow. I didn't realize that the top & bottom bezels were not symmetric. On my 27" iMac they are and you can thank Steve Jobs' fanatical obsession with detail for that. I know these are LG-branded but they are Apple exclusive and Apple is pushing them heavily. This reeks of Steve Ballmer-esque bean counting! Ugh!

Does anyone know when you can buy these? They're currently "unavailable".

Not much of a price decrease if you cannot buy them.

Do you want to know the REAL reason why Apple is suddenly dropping prices on new devices?

Because of this, this one product caught Apple with its pants way down around their ankles..caught them of guard..caught them resting on the biggest lorals in history..

This advert is even better then any Apple advert of late.

If only it didn't have an ugly spin drive inside that bottom Mac Mini portion. Waiting for the 2nd gen with NVMe SSD w/Thunderbolt 3! But kudos to MS on making an interesting concept.

The 5K monitor hasn't even gone on sale yet so this can't have been in response to poor sales numbers.

They weren't liking the pre-order numbers.

I just got one of those ultra wide Thunderbolt displays at my office. The image retention is TERRIBLE. The width is too awesome to give up on though.
Which one please?

That's what I just ordered! 38UC99!
I was going to get the 34UC98 but black Friday/cyber Monday is around the corner.

Same here. Will buy one the moment I can connect my G-RAID Studio.

marketing. now everyone will buy everything at a price over than what they really need to sell this stuff at.

Anyone knows if the new prices are applied when an order gets shipped? I've just checked and I had old prices on my order even though there were lower prices in the store. I've just cancelled the dongles. What a scam.

The new MBP is their best selling to date.

Did Phil Schiller spoon-feed you that line personally? I'll believe it when Apple breaks down their Mac sales.

I think they look fine as non-Apple products go. What irks me is the suspicion that the enclosure is made of wobbly, creaky plastic rather than sturdy, nicely-finished aluminum.

Pretty sure we were already doing that. That's what's so irritating. They took stuff away, and then raised the price.

They weren't liking the [LG 5k display] pre-order numbers.

The problem with this display is that it won't connect to anything without Thunderbolt 3, and nobody has Thunderbolt 3. What this means is that you effectively need to buy a new MacBook Pro as an accessory to use this display. Suddenly that $974 price goes up by a minimum of $1,500 for the base model MacBook Pro.

Is there anyway to run these off an older rMBP?

Thunderbolt 2 won't drive this display even with the adapter.

The point is the pixel density. After using a 5K iMac for the last two years my eyes can't go back. I'd rather buy a 21.5" 4K display than a 27" one.

With the Dell comparison, you're also forgetting Thunderbolt 3, seamless software integration (e.g. brightness), and P3 colour gamut.
Pixel density isn't the only consideration, it has to be coupled with real estate. Some apps will be ridiculously tiny at 4k on a 21.5". I have a 32" Dell at 4k which is almost perfect, but sometimes text etc is too small, personally I would say 27" is the minimum for 4k, 24" at a push, but 21.5" I can't see how it would be good to view

But you dont get thunderbolt 3 speeds sadly

If they can 'partner' with LG to make a generic monitor why can't they 'partner' with a PC manufacturer to sell a proper Workstation? Only needs to be an 'official Hackintosh'. Then we don't have to think about that asinine, outdated trashcan ever again.

valid point, there's a lot more to be discussed there, i'm just pointing out that Apple had planned to do this already. Now the public 'is' happy and will spend the money.

"Hahahahaha heavens no. Just cut the price of something no one's buying, something hideous which we don't make anyway".
:D

I imagined that scene with the rest of the boardroom peacefully shoveling wads of hundreds into wheelbarrows.

Looking at your post history, I do wonder how people like you become so obnoxious. Was it beaten into you or did you just wake up like this one day? :D
Click username, click ignore. Much more peaceful :)

* Subject to availability; quantity limits apply. Pricing effective 27 October to 31 December 2016

5K's are unavailable. The limited offer seems to be almost done already. Just a couple of hours after the news sites shut down for the weekend. Playing games again Mr Schiller?

Edit: I take it back, somewhat. I think the 'unavailable' may just mean they're not taking orders yet for whatever reason.
