No, they said "better online sales".

Haven't previous Apple laptops been pretty much available at the time of announcement? These new machines weren't available for another two weeks or so. So - only way you can buy is online, not in a break and mortar store.

Apple don't have to be lying about overall sales figures.. just spinning the truth.
Whatever helps you sleep at night.

Sooooo, I read on Slashdot, the Verge, etc that they slashed the prices as a response to the poor reception of their ridiculously priced devices and accessories. Great, let's go to MacRumors and get the details.

Ah, there's the catch. it's just done to convince those who are in doubt to buy now, because the prices will go back up again .. it's nothing but a holiday sale.

Starting to look like Microsoft

And it's useless, because not knowing if there's an iMac coming it's a gamble to pre-order (which doesn't even seem possible in the Netherlands right now). So waiting for 'early 2017' for that iMac, means I am forced now to make the most of it and gamble that iMac away, or invest in something I won't have a use for later in 2017.

Secondly, it's still €1049, quite a bit of a drop, but a €3559 for the laptop with the 460, and i7 cpu, with that monitor still makes €4608, minus 375 euro for apple care, and 100 bucks in dongles. A 5000 euro laptop, with 5k monitor, compared to a 3500 iMac with 5k monitor, including apple care.

Quite the gamble for me personally to take, plus the monitor isn't even available in the Dutch stores. They say they expect them sometime in December, no guarantee, probably January. Great.

That's actually a pretty good deal.

Don't expect the MPBs to price drop until the next update, though.

Wow! Weird! That LG 5K UltraFine is looking a lot less ugly at that price point. Tempted.

Edit: Nope, that monitor is still hideous.
I thought it was an oddly ugly product to release to complement the MacBooks too. Considering LG have also produced this…

It just doesn't compute.

Something tells me that Phil's claims that the new Macbook Pro is the most pre-ordered model ever might be less than true.

What doesn't dropping the price of an accessory have to do with the sale sale volume of the MacBook Pro!?

They probably expected X% of MacBook Pro buyers to also buy a monitor. The % of monitor sales is probably far lower than expected, thus the price adjustment of the monitor. Which has no bearing on the claims of high MacBook Pro pre-orders.

LG could have also wanted the price dropped to stimulate sales, not solely an Apple decision.

If they were designed in partnership with LG, why are they so ugly? Would it have killed them to improve the design to be a little bit more in line with the rest of Apple products? The price cut is welcome, but that's just shaving off the Apple tax. On a non-Apple product.
I have an "older" LG 4k display that looks way better than these. It is the one with a USB-C port that supports charging/usb-hub for the MB 12", it was cheaper too, as well as being 27". Only disadvantage is that it is 16:9, not sure if these are 16:10 or not.

Sounds good. If this happens, I'm in for a 15" model.

I paid a few hundred under the $2200 retail price for my last 15" Retina MacBook Pro in 2012 a few weeks after it was released so it's not unrealistic at least!

If the monitor is so "hideous" just look at what is being displayed on the screen. Don't look at the monitor itself.

To me, that's like saying that an ugly couch is fine as long as it's comfortable. Truthfully, I'd probably be happier if I felt that way, but I value attractiveness in addition to functionality.

So that if they choose to launch their display, people will prefer theirs. It was likely designed at the same time that they had a team working on a 1st party one.

I'm going to buy an asus ips monitor with display port that pivots for my Mac mini instead.

Along with dropping the prices on all of its USB-C adapters accessories to help new MacBook Pro owners transition to USB-C more affordably, Apple has also introduced some significant price cuts to the 4K and 5K LG UltraFine Displays that were announced at its October 27 Mac event.

The LG UltraFine 5K Display is now priced at $974, a $325 price cut from its original price of $1,299.95.

The LG UltraFine 4K Display is now priced at $524, a $175 price cut from its original price of $699.95.

Each of LG UltraFine Display was designed in partnership with Apple to work specifically with the new MacBook Pro. The displays connect to the Apple's new MacBook Pro machines over Thunderbolt 3 and have features like built-in USB-C ports, charging capabilities, stereo speakers, P3 wide color gamut support, and on the 5K monitor, a camera and a microphone.

LG's 4K display is available for purchase immediately from the online Apple Store and will ship out to customers in five to six weeks. The 5K Display is not yet available for purchase, with Apple planning to launch it in December.

The price drops on the two displays are labeled as "Special Pricing" and will last until the end of the year. Apple also plans to discount its USB-C adapters until the end of 2016.

This is a fantastic news, what I'd like to see is as much press coverage about the price cuts as we've seen about the launch prices, and a cut on the macbook pro prices too.
If Apple knocks 250 bucks off the Macbook Pro 13, I am in.
