Is it possible to use the 21.5" monitor with devices that dont support USB C? Would love this for my 2016 rMBP, but it would be nice to know it could be used with my desktop PC if needed too with say an adapter.

I paid a few hundred under the $2200 retail price for my last 15" Retina MacBook Pro in 2012 a few weeks after it was released so it's not unrealistic at least!

Right now, I can get a new 2015 15" (2.5ghz, 512gb and the m370x) for €2179, which normally costs €2599 in the store.

It's a good deal. The downside on the newer ones is of course the lack of normal ports, so say hi to adapters. But they are better computers with everything else. I might wait a bit and see what the price does.

It's a felony for Apple execs to lie about sales numbers. That's a pretty intense accusation.

They didn't lie. But if their expectation was to sell more than they are currently selling, well, they're selling less than they expected and would be shifting course in order to get sales to what they expected by lowering accessory prices.

But let's look at what was said:

And we are proud to tell you that so far our online store has had more orders for the new MacBook Pro than any other pro notebook before. So there certainly are a lot of people as excited as we are about it.

He didn't say more orders than any other MacBook Pro. He said any other pro notebook. What is a pro notebook? It's implied but not defined so it could mean that only the top end previous MacBook Pro was considered a pro notebook and the lower spec MacBook Pros were not. Or, technically, he might be talking about non-Apple products.

Also, keep in mind, with such a huuuuuuuge gap between the last MBP and the new one, there was a ton of pent up demand waiting. There was less pent up demand for previous MBP releases plus the fact that more and more computer purchases are laptops rather than desktop computers.

So, just as an example, let's say that Apple was talking about their previous MBP as the "pro notebook". And let's say they sold 1,000,000 units the first week they released the new MBP. Given the long period where they didn't upgrade specs which caused many people to hold out for the new MBP, the general trend for people to replace desktops with laptops, etc they projected 2,000,000 units sold by this time.

And then say that actual results were 1,500,000 units. Guess what? FAIL

They can still go out there and claim that they're doing record sales but their sales are weak compared to what they should be given all of those other factors.

And guess why all of these accessory sales are lasting until EOY? That's when the quarter ends. They have until EOY to get numbers back on track before they have to open the kimono and let the stock analysts see how far they fell short.

The 4K version is no uglier than the Dell p2415q I have and can't seem to get a good unit. Lines on the screen, power supply buzzing...

I'd love to replace it with this but the lack of ports sucks. I take it the extra usb c ports (which are USB 2) can't power another display? Makes the one cable docking solution harder to achieve.

I agree. Apple's willingness to quell the irrational mob of rabid luddite whiners is a testament to their commitment to good customer service.

What it must be like to be such a fan boy that a company that essentially admits that it was gouging you (adaptor prices being whacked by as much as 50%) lowering their prices is seen as their commitment to good customer service.

Apple is spreading pure BS that they designed these screens with LG!

If that's true, then Apple assigned their least experienced intern to LG because those monitors show absolutely no Apple design aesthetic. Apple is full of crap lately and can't even make their own monitors anymore. It seems like Apple is slowly, but surely, getting out of the serious computer business.

When iPhone tanks, Apple will have nothing to fall back upon. You see, Apple, your iOS products are not serious productivity tools no matter how many times Tim Cook says it. People will always come back to desktops to do their real work. And now that you are essentially out of the desktop and real pro market (not the fake "pro" like your laughably un-pro MacBook "pros"), good luck.

That's a really nice price for that 27" monitor. I prefer having the webcam built into a monitor so it has a leg up on the Dell 5k. Wide color gamut and the, presumably, good Apple calibration is sugar on top.

Now sell me a desktop that I can hook up to that monitor and you can take my money today Apple! I don't want a laptop.

I know these are temporary prices, but could this be signs of Apple actually hearing the backlash over the abysmal MacBook Pro announcement and actually trying to remedy the situation? Are they actually noticing that their reputation has taken a hit? I wonder if we'll see the 2016 MacBook Pro get a permanent price cut before Christmas/early next year.

I think this sort of behaviour will become more common place as Apple slowly wake up to the fact that they cannot maintain such massive profit margins with inflated prices now they're not exactly top dog anymore. I believe they're going to find it harder, over the next few years, to get consumers to pay the Apple Tax.

I'm totally bemused by what the strategy is here. Probably a single sentence could clarify (as long as it didn't include the word "emoji"). EDIT: BTW - not one penny is going out from my pocket until I understand the rationale and regain some trust.

Will either of these monitors work with the 2013 Mac Pro? These seem to be Thunderbolt 3 and the Mac Pro is Thunderbolt 2.

Apple hasn't released any numbers. Sales or otherwise. There's nothing to lie about. Apple released an anecdotal statement that has no numerical significance. It was a marketing blurb, nothing more. More than that, it's an ambiguous marketing blurb that means nothing relevant unless you know the actual numbers and time frame involved.

Think about this: Apple's last big Mac event had multiple products debuting. Multiple products to choose from. This event had one item only and 2/3rds of the skus can only be purchased online. Nothing else new to order except the MBP. So sure, it's pretty easy to say "more online orders of the new MBP than any other pro notebook..." hey, they never actually said it was more orders of MBP's v MBP's. They said any other pro notebook. That's not vague at all:rolleyes:

tl;dr there's no lie cuz there are no numbers.

Demand is so high that they're dropping prices of accessories...

lol true, looks like demand has dropped of a cliff already - I think there will be a price cut after Christmas or before even on the new MBPs. Seriously, $500 more in this market - they are insane not insanely great.

Brilliant: subsidize high-priced MBP's through reduced-price-high-priced peripherals. Hopefully the 5K is actually available for order before "end of the year pricing." You are cutting it pretty close, Apple.
