There's another one.

While I loved Steve Wozniak's Apple IIgs (sabotaged by Jobs), Woz is no remotely the right person to lead Apple. He and Jobs had a good partnership, but once other (multiple) engineers could fill in for his engineering brilliance, Jobs didn't need Woz.

Jobs also had a vision that Woz didn't. It wasn't always the right vision, he changed it often (sometimes clearly insincerely), and he was probably a pretty lousy person in terms of social skills and employee treatment, but Jobs' leadership was probably better for the industry than any other executive we've seen. He was detail-oriented and driven to make computers better for everyone (not just tech geeks, and not just the end consumers of today's Apple).

And I didn't even like him as a person.

"We recognize that many users, especially pros, rely on legacy connectors to get work done today and they face a transition."

NOW you recognize it? You didn't understand this during the design and development of the machine?

No Apple just wanted us to hand over the money, hopefully same will apply to the MBP and not just for a few months, fewer that buy you will be surprised at how much the MBO pricing will drop...

One of the USB A dongles should have been packed-in with this first version. They already did so with the iPhone and they'll be making hundreds of millions of them.

Actually i'm an idiot ... A better idea is that the power brick should include the legacy ports.

Ummm... many, many professionals prefer to get 100gb/s when docked...

We need to do more than stream Netflix.

Actual professionals would know that the theoretical maximum speed of a port available on any Mac product currently stands at 40Gbps, and was only half that prior to last Thursday.

Such a turn off how Apple uses the word legacy so arrogantly.. other USB standards are still very much relavent

Over a year with two USB C notebooks, across multiple facilities based in multiple countries I have yet to see "one" peripheral that I would be able to connect natively to USB C port. Nor is there any momentum to change outside of tech forums. As much as USB c is a significant advancement in connectivity, more so with TB-3, however USB A will remain relevant for a signifiant period of time for several reasons...

I fully support USB C, however Apple foisting it on us in this manner is not welcome. It`s not about standing in the path of progress it`s more about the reality of the times we live in. All Apple has achieved is to further distance itself from a significant number of it`s customer base.

Tim is shameless

" Apple, the new adapter company "

No Tim is smart as the margins on Dongles & Adapter cables is vastly more in comparison to the actual devices, that said I very much agree he and Apple is unmitigatedly shameless in the depths they will go to extract ever more $$$$ from it`s customers...

Just got an email from Apple:

Thank you for your recent Apple Online Store purchase.

Apple recently lowered the price of the USB-C to USB Adapter you ordered. We are pleased to inform you that we will provide you with a credit for the difference between the price you paid and the new, lower price.

I purchased the following on November 1, 2016 from Apple.com and paid the following:

$19.00 - USB-C to USB Adapter (Now $9.00)
$49.00 - Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter (Now $29.00)
$49.00 - SanDisk Extreme Pro SD UHS-II Card USB-C Reader (Now $29.00)

I just got off the phone with 1-800-MY-APPLE. I asked for the sales department, explained the situation of the price reductions, gave them my web order number...within 5 minutes they gave me a credit back to my credit card for the $50 difference.

I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE THAT ALREADY PURCHASED THESE OVERPRICED DONGLES TO CALL NOW!

We purchased five MBP and five TB3 -> TB2 adapters an hour after the event through the online store business department. Our dongles have shipped but our computers have not. I just received an email from Apple that we would be getting a refund for the price difference for the adapters with no action on my part.

I wonder if those of us who ordered a couple cables when we ordered our new computers on the first day will get a refund. I will follow up with Apple and let the forum know.

BTW I have made my living in film and television for over 20 years, seen a lot of changes in formats, cables, and connectors, and am really looking forward to my new MBP. Hopefully Avid will get support for Media Composer in Sierra before my computer arrives.

I bought three cables along with my new 15" MBP on Day One. I just received emails from Apple letting me know that they've applied credit:

Apple"

Gotta love Apple! Can't wait for the new MBP!

I wish people would just shut the hell up about the damn adapters. Go buy a damn Surface if you think it's so bad. Go away. Please shut the hell up.

I have both and Surface is far superior. I wish everyone stop buying into Apple with their stance on less ports and thinness for 15' inch range.. It's not acceptable for us professionals.

Sorry, but a 5400 rpm drive in a $1500 Imac is greedy AND stupid.
Yeah that argument doesn't work with the 16GB base model iPhone either. You can't tell happy customers they're not happy because you don't like he speed of the hard drive in their Mac.

I dont reallt get what apple gained from shaving of few millimeter thickness

You get a significantly thinner and lighter device.

Handle it for a few months and then the previous retina MacBook Pro will seem needlessly thick and heavy by comparison.

Because there's still going to be some devices out in the wild that aren't using a USB-C connector we need to have a dedicated port on the laptop for it? Ok, fine. So where does it stop? How about a VGA port? A DVI port? Even a Serial port? There's still stuff out there that uses those plugs. What's your criteria?

Since it's still a USB port that Apple is using it's very simple to buy a tiny adapter or cable that costs a few bucks, throw it in your bag or case and not worry about it while things transition to USB-C. This sounds like an infinitely better idea to me than saddling a device I'm going to be using for the next 4-5+ years with ports that are going just going to become increasingly obsolete.

This same **** had to happen for us to get to where USB-A is now. It's part of the process of progressing technology to a new and better technology. In fact it was worse back then because this time at least USB-A to USB-C is still the same base protocol. If the worst part about this whole thing is that I need to buy a few $5 cables for most of my devices in the meantime and in return I get 4 incredibly powerful USB-C ports then I'd say I'm pretty damn fortunate in the grand scheme of things.

So you are completely happy to pay top dollar for a machine which is natively incompatible with your daily needs in the hope that in 4-5 years, it will be somewhat natively compatible with some peripherals, but will by that time be an aging and slow 4-5 year old machine. Lol makes perfect sense.

Same deal here, but for the sandisk sd card adapter. Saved me $20.

This might be the clumsiest attempt at a PR move ever made. It only serves to bring additional attention to the whole ridiculous dongle situation.

I agree, it actually comes across as an insincere token gesture, particularly the 'pro' and 'legacy' parts.

It just draws attention to the limitations of the device and reminds everyone of dongle's.

I'm also not so sure they would be doing anything if it was selling as well as they claim?

They should have put a $9 cable in the laptop box.

Same for me on about 5 adapters.

Looks the LG monitor price cuts are temporary. A note on the product page:

http://www.apple.com/shop/product/HKMY2/lg-ultrafine-4k-display?fnode=4c

...says: "Special pricing on this item for a limited time. Discount reflected in price."

How can it be a temporary price cut or a price cut at all when you can't even order them yet? I'd order if I could.

An average of $10 drop per dongle. An average person would probably need about 5 dongles for the new Macbook Pro.

So.. you save about $50 on a setup that costs over $3000, or 1.66%. Hurray
