I love that you have Jonathan Banks as your avatar because A) I could totally see one of his characters saying something like this and B) I read your comment in Mike's voice from Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul.

Hehe, him and Jesse are my favourite characters in the BB world. Better Call Saul is amazing, I really can't wait until season 3 in February :)

Same for me on about 5 adapters.

How can it be a temporary price cut or a price cut at all when you can't even order them yet? I'd order if I could.

Keep checking until they're on sale. And let me know when that happens so I can buy one too.

I bought three cables along with my new 15" MBP on Day One. I just received emails from Apple letting me know that they've applied credit:
"Thank you for your recent Apple Online Store purchase.

Apple recently lowered the price of the USB-C to Lightning Cable (1 m) you ordered. We are pleased to inform you that we will provide you with a credit for the difference between the price you paid and the new, lower price.

Apple"

Gotta love Apple! Can't wait for the new MBP!
Appreciate the update. I called Apple to get a refund on the price difference; a bit of a wait on hold but easily resolved once I was speaking to someone. I asked if I could get some help moving my name up on the wait list for the MBP and was told Apple was doing everything they could to get the product to market as soon as possible and the timeframe given should be on the outside. That said, he would put a note on my file. He actually sounded quite sincere which made me laugh (politely, I hope). Anyhow, here's hoping he's right and they arrive even earlier than currently scheduled. I have a 4K Rec2020 project I want to cut in FCP X while I wait for Media Composer to be supported in Sierra. I hope you get your new MBP soon as well.

I dont reallt get what apple gained from shaving of few millimeter thickness

that's the best comment ever. the media should use your comment on their title in every article.

It's Jony Ive who wants to show off to other designers around the world how his stupid design looks at the expense of functionality. Sir Ive, Winner of the Designer Award for the skinnier laptop ever.

Since Tim Cook goal is lobbying governments and busy with global political issues, Jony is left alone unquestioned.

engineers first, users seconds and designer LAST in order should make decisions.

Most architects do this. They only think about exterior design with weird shapes, windows and materials so they can get press and say they are unique, then the interiors are a mess and prices skyrocket.

the butterfly keyboard will go down in history as the main reason why Apple shut down the entire mac line and went bankrupt.

I tried to to like it but no matter how much I type on it, it's still a wood board.

____________________________

MacBook: 2mm less and you now have a wood keyboard, no magsafe, no battery, no ports, no speed

Steve Jobs would have smacked Jony in the face for this.

Well, since the Thunderbolt adapter is bidirectional I picked one up today. That way I can start phasing in Thunderbolt 3 devices with my current machine and be ready whenever I actually need/want to update.

As an aside, I played with one of the "cheap" 13" models today. The keyboard has slightly more travel and it's actually pretty crazy how much of an improvement it is. The thing is as wide as an 11" Air. I really, really like the form factor.

Here's my question: does anyone own anything that uses USB-C natively? I don't. For me, that's a big part of the frustration. I use a lot of USB A things -- my mouse, mainly, but I'm constantly passing off files via thumb drives or external drives to people at work - we leave thumb drives with leave-behinds on them for clients nearly every day. I have a lot of things that rely on USB-A ports -- charging bricks, portable batteries, etc. Put simply, USB-A is a big part of what I do with a computer right now. I have nothing else with a USB-C port on it and nothing to plug into such a port should I have one.

Apple thinks USB-C is gonna be big, I get it. It probably is. There's a lot of advantages there. But any time they've made this sort of jump -- removing optical drives, removing floppy drives, etc -- there's been a clear better option that people were already using. I didn't know the last time that I had even used a CD when they got rid of the optical drive. I get that Apple thinks it's the future, but it's not the present AT ALL.

My GoPro 5 does...

So you are completely happy to pay top dollar for a machine which is natively incompatible with your daily needs in the hope that in 4-5 years, it will be somewhat natively compatible with some peripherals, but will by that time be an aging and slow 4-5 year old machine. Lol makes perfect sense.
Yeah, because when Apple put USB on the original iMac it took four-five years for USB to become a standard. Oh, wait, no it didn't. Or when Apple put Thunderbolt on the 2011 MBP... no, wait, not that time either. Fact is the USB-A connector is already dead, it's just that most people haven't noticed the corpse is cold.

In the 20+ years I have been making film and television I have seen a lot of standards come and go; I expect to see a lot more before I'm done. I have drawers full of old cables and have long gotten over the fact things change. I, for one, am really looking forward to getting and using my new MBP.

Just got an email like this

Thank you for your recent Apple Online Store purchase.

Apple

So finally Apple takes action to heavily promote USB-C / Thunderbolt 3 ;|, that is a good thing.

No one wants to say it now?

Steve Jobs would have kept prices and said this is the cost of moving forward.

Apple has been changed ;)
[doublepost=1478327447][/doublepost]Oh... wait, did someone just said they got their Google chromebook pixel with a FREE video adapter? Apple, can you match? ;)

I haven't seen anyone complaining that the previous model was too thick.
I didn't feel the iPhone 4s was heavy either, until I handled the iPhone 5 for a while. Then the 4s seemed heavy by comparison.

It's all about redefining the new status quo.

Well, we now know there was a panicked meeting yesterday at Apple Towers over how forums like this have unilaterally turned on this nonsense.
Well kids they have to have some means of paying Angela's compensation. She isn't worth 10% of that check.

Or the model before that, for that matter. You get used to what you are using within about 10 minutes.
I suppose you do. My point being, there was no need to make it thinner at the expense of deleting ports.
I think the thinness of the new machine is impressive but it seems to be coming at a heavy cost to Apple's reputation.
I'd happily have the size of the previous model if it meant more connection options. i.e., some older ports mixed up with the new usb standard.

The competition can manage it, why can't Apple?

If you're going to reimagine the laptop then no point going in half arsed. I think Apple made the correct call.

Did you know the human brain is coded to resist change? What you're feeling is quite normal.

The human brain is also coded to like new things. But guess what, the human brain is coded to work out what's worth changing and what isn't. Who'd a thunk it?

It's like people refuse to recognise a bad idea when they see it.

I totally dig that apple is pushing the envelope. Their design is the best and the machines are great. I'm a longtime fan and user. I just hope they haven't alienated too much off their loyal customer base with this design. So many people have been holding out, waiting to purchase the new machine and I fear it isn't going to be the runaway success we had all expected

Proves that it pays to be a mid or late adopter of their updated MacBook Pros, usully their late releases have an extended 7 year + life span :D

That solves the problem of me buying a £4000 laptop...

Brexit made your money lose its value, me in sweden could take the plane to london and stay 1 night at hotel there and buy a macbook and still get it cheaper than buying here :)

I've seen multiple websites reporting the same thing.

https://linustechtips.com/main/topi...pros-not-compatible-with-older-thunderbolt-3/
https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/03/2016-macbook-pro-thunderbolt-compatibility-issues/

A USB-C device company put out a public statement today stating that their products that use the old Intel + TI thunderbolt chips will not work on the new MacBook Pros.

Those websites aren't saying the same thing at all. The poster you are supporting claimed the incompatibility problems are caused by poor shielding and non-conformant chipsets. The articles don't say that anywhere.
