In my experience, there’s much more upward mobility than turnovers. I haven’t seen another company with so many people who have been there for so many years in a job climate where people make more by changing jobs every 2 years. I haven’t seen so much company loyalty anywhere else.
It’s nice you write in your experience now.

my experience is that most of the employees while I was there was only there for a few years.

my current company has a much longer tenure. My old manager retired after 30 years and the company isn’t that much older. My current partner has been there for 20 years.

i love apple products but I’m not going to sprout only apple goodness.

I see this remark a lot. I think it’s trying to be funny, just like every time it’s said about everother year.

I like 2020. I’ve gotten closer to my family. I spend more time with my pets. I have been buying less and getting used to a more basic lifestyle. I have seen people taking time to better understand public health. People are standing up for others.Sure, some bad things have happened, but bad things always happen.

But has been seen before and will be seen again. Between which we will get war, famine, and natural disasters.

Actually... when they came out with this type of tee shirt in 2016ish, when I was there, they complained.

the older employees who has been there longer grumbles. The newer employees that don’t know better are indifferent.
That’s to be expected, some people are never happy. They’re best ignored, since they detract from your happiness instead of enhancing it.

Purge them from your life whenever possible, for your own sake. Their negativity can be corrosive and infect others.

Like a certain someone from earlier in this thread who thinks Apple should give out gold watches to employees just because they can afford it?

These are the facts. I was there from 2009-2019. We went from getting Beats and backpacks/hoodies to... t-shirts and Cards.

And things of that type of scale and impact will be seen and remembered through a similar lens.

What must one do to "close all the rings"? Is this hard to do?
You have to be an employee, first of all. Then you have to sign up for the challenge, and close all your rings for the duration of the event, which is usually a month. After that, you get the prize. 2017 was a shirt. 2018 & 2019 were watch bands, and this year is a shirt, as you see.

Take that shirt and card, vacuum pack it and save it for 20 years.

be worth a fortune on eBay some day...

From my perspective, things like t-shirts exist to commemorate participation, not reward it. "We did this good thing together, we achieved a goal, let's not forget it."

People are looking for some sort of proportionality... Companies give out t-shirts all the time for participating in single-day fitness events - 5K runs and such. Apple's thing happened to be a month-long event. Does that mean the "prize" should be 30 times as valuable?

Again, the answer is that these things aren't prizes. Fitness/good health is its own reward. A daily endorphin boost is pretty nice. There are also the social rewards of teaming up with co-workers and friendly competition with others (more endorphins).

Maybe some people were encouraged to get off their butts for a month and then sat right down again, but I'd guess for many others they're already active the other 11 months out of the year. I'm sure one of Apple's hopes is that this event will start some participants on a long-term habit. That's part of what the Activity app on Watch does - subtly encourages you to be active on a regular basis. It's one of the reasons people buy the Watch in the first place.

But yeah, we'd all like to get gold Porsches (well, maybe not - I wouldn't want to pay the sky-high insurance premiums that accompany such things). We'd also like to get inheritances from billionaire relatives we didn't know we had, find a winning lottery ticket on the street...

This is a good point but, not to be totally err... negative?

they could have dumped a hundred or a couple hundred into a HSA for them as a reward for closing the circles consecutively for x days along with the teeshirt.

companies do that all the time. Mine does.

Great way to look at it. You know, I actually Know a rich Nigerian prince who wants to give me $6,500,000. All he needs is my credit card number!

So cute to see so many non-Apple employees complaining for Apple employees about benefits they don’t actually know about, t-shirt quality they’ve never touched, or the gratification of participating in a challenge they don’t get to participate in. You guys are precious. You know who isn’t complaining about any of these things?? Apple employees.
Have you been elected spokesperson for all Apple employees and been authorised to state that no employee is complaining? I thought not.

Seems like that kind falls under that commemoration vs. reward distinction that was brought up.

The might have, but it's hardly a universal practice. Most companies are going to set aside a percentage of total compensation costs for "benefits." How those funds are allocated will vary with each company. Perhaps your employer pays a somewhat smaller percentage of the health insurance plan costs and uses those "bonus" HSA contributions to encourage certain behavior. Other companies may just cover the same percentage for all employees, regardless of what they do. None of these things is in isolation, you have to look at the big picture.

Personally, I'm not a fan of HSAs. If your company only offers an HSA instead of traditional insurance... I might not work for them. And if employees in your company can opt for a traditional plan... how does that bonus HSA contribution work for them?

whats the chances this scenario played out at one of the senior executive meetings.

exec1: I am noticing some of our employees are getting a bit on the heavy side
exec2: You worried they are not exercising enough and might pass out at work
exec1: Yes
exec2: what do suppose we do about it
exec1: How about we set a fitness challenge but don't tell them the real reason we are doing it, they can win a t-shirt
exec2: excellent idea, we get free marketing when the employee wears the t-shirt out in public, your a genius
exec1: that's why i get paid the big bucks :)
That explains why the shirts only come in size Small and Medium... 🤨
