Also, if Chrome or Firefox is your default browser, when you open safari the next time it will ask if you want to make safari your default.

Honestly, it felt a little low for Apple. If I want to make safari my default, I'll do it without apple begging me to change over.

The exact same pop up happens when you start up Firefox or Chrome if Safari is your default browser.

So is Firefox or Chrome "begging" you to change over ? Is it "low" for Firefox or Chrome ?

How about Internet Explorer ?

Chrome is faster... when it comes to sending your private life details to Google...

Weekly Chrome updates that break my sites sometimes killed it for me. safari now feels way more polished. Feels good to be back home

Safari on Yosemite is excellent

It pains me to see anyone using Chrome on a Mac - Safari is SOO much better (though that wasn't always the case - especially during the Lion era).

I've got to say, I'm one of those that switched back to Safari from chrome after many many years. For starters, the refresh "feature" in Safari where pages kept refreshing when hitting back was finally gone. The other things that brought me back were handoff and iCloud tabs between my other devices and of course that unbelievablably streamlined and efficient design that's left Chrone looking ancient overnight.

Been using Safari over Chrome for a while now because chrome used to hang up very often. Now Ive been very happy with Safari and the whole integration with iOS and saved passwords.

I will still use Firefox because of extensions I rely on a lot. I hate that I can't do Ctrl-Tab on Safari to go to the previously selected tab. Or that I can't press Ctrl-1 to 9 to go to a specific tab. If Safari could have these functions, then I'll consider using it.

As far as energy efficiency, it's not even close between Safari and Chrome. You can get at least 1 full extra hour on your laptop just using Safari over Chrome.

I used to be a fan of Chrome years ago but now I only use it if a website or video requires Flash. In fact, these days I see Chrome just like Flash... That thing on your computer with subpar performance that kills your battery but you only keep it around because you're still forced to use it from time to time. :D

Permanent Private Browsing

If only apple would allow for a user to allow Safari to open in private browsing permanently, the same way FireFox does, I would be using it now. It is a royal PIA to have to tell Safari to open in Private mode all the time!

The only meaningful way for Safari to outperform Chrome is to deliberately degrade Chrome's performance under OS X. There is no way Apple engineers are capable of creating JS engine that outperforms V8 that much (like 6x on JSBench, seriously?) That's scary.

Safari's disputable superiority aside, this is the stupidity that bugs me so much. I realize that the tiny corner notification isn't a big deal, but it's almost like advertising. They did the same thing with the "See what's new in Mavericks" notifcations a year ago. I literally could not give a ****, leave me alone. I will choose to use what I want on my computer and how I want to. I wish there was a terminal command or something specifically to stop stuff like this so people who would benefit will still get them and those who don't want to be bugged can opt out. Why is that so hard?

Safari needs more extension support and a GUI that doesn't look like I'm using an iPad.

I agree. I wish I could have the interface of Safari 5 (from Snow Leopard) back and just keep the security patches.
