I need the multi account/user features for Chrome, Safari doesn't have that. Too bad.

Otherwise, I prefer Safari any day.

I used to hate Safari but it's now my browser of choice on my Macs and has been since last years revamp. I never thought I'd ever say that!

I'm in that boat also (which has apparently sailed off somewhere)... I think. Anyway, I used to use FF & Ch until a couple updates ago. Safari never felt quite up to par until then, and this latest update is indeed snappy.

I stopped using Safari for a while because it kept causing kernel panics on my 2 year old MBA. It also used to crash whenever I used a lot of Flash content. It was annoying because I've always preferred Safari's features over other browsers.

Ever since I installed Yosemite, I've not stopped using it! It's the smoothest Safari has ever been for me and hasn't crashed once yet.

If only apple would allow for a user to allow Safari to open in private browsing permanently, the same way FireFox does, I would be using it now. It is a royal PIA to have to tell Safari to open in Private mode all the time!

Totally agree, which is why I use Opera. IMHO, Opera seems to have the best of both Safari and Firefox. Some complain about "performance" but I don't notice any issues. I just get a crash-free experience with all the features I want that will do what I need it to do when I need it to do it the way I want it to do it.

If anything Firefox and Chrome were the buggiest browsers I ever used on broadband internet (skipping over the old AOL dialup browser, IE, Netscape, iCab, etc).

Safari is my browser of choice, but there are still some sites (e.g., ESPN's site that lets you watch live TV) that don't work, and I have to use Firefox.

Safari is definitely smoother than Chrome on a mac. I would switch but there's no Magic Actions extension for Safari, and I can't add favicons to the bookmarks bar.

I'm fully aware this question may be dumb, but I have to ask anyways: Is there a way to clear my history without signing myself out of every bloody site I'm signed into?

Please tell me there's an easy fix to this. I'm OCD about clearing my history. It's a problem. I know.

D.

the safari is soon fast

seriously, and i am a chrome user too... on pc at work... safari is much much faster, its scary.

Don't see a single reason to not use safari under OSX

What reason is there to not be using Safari on the Mac? Especially if you have an iPhone/iPad.

In the past, I tried using Safari, and overall, it's a good browser. I would probably use it as a default browser. But there was one thing about it that made it practically worthless to me.

One. Freaking. Thing.

... that they still haven't fixed, as far as I've read (haven't used the latest version yet). And that's being able to choose the destination folder for each individual download.

I cannot stand the fact that they force you to stick everything in the Downloads folder. It should be basic browser functionality to allow the option for a user to specify each time they download something where they'd like it to go, and to rename the file at that time if they so choose. No, Apple would have you download everything in one spot, and then require you to manually move files where you wanted them to go in the first place.

So no, I won't be switching to Safari (unless what I've read is incorrect and someone can confirm that this has changed). I'll stick with Chrome.

I used to use Safari then moved over to Chrome. I've been back with Safari for over a year now. I still turn to Chrome on occasion but Safari has improved a lot and is noticeably faster than Chrome on my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. Plus, now that I own an iPad and an iPhone, I have little reason to use Chrome.

I haven't used Firefox for quite a few years - ever since Chrome came out and worked out early bugs.

Don't understand why 95% of Mac/iOS users would use anything other than Safari to be honest. The UI is best in class which is what most users care about. I use Chrome and Firefox, but mainly for testing purposes.

Has anyone else had trouble with Safari after installing Yosemite? I have always used Safari, and now I am constantly getting errors, and hang-ups. Even on a simple google search, the page won't load. I dumped all the website data/cookies and it is still happening!

I use Firefox bc it is the only browser where I can easily save a "tab session," and re-open it whenever I want. Each tab also remembers its history, unlike all the extensions I ever saw in Chrome.

Now that you mention it, I am seeing this with Google sites. I've been wondering if it's a bug or a feature. :)

It does have extension support..... lol

Safari extensions are terrible. If you can even find one that does what you're looking for (Apple's extension search is abhorrent...) it was most likely abandoned years ago by the developer.

Here's my most recent example, I want an extension that notifies me when I get a new gmail since apparently there's no way for Apple to have a background service and there's only one extension that I could find. Of course it hasn't been updated in 3+ years and doesn't work with the current Safari.

But hey, apparently it's still good enough to be listed on the first page of extensions: https://extensions.apple.com

Been using Chrome since an update a couple of years ago just killed Safari performance on my 2008 MB.

Might be time to give it another try. I love Chrome but it is tough on battery life.

Safari has been very intrusive this time around, not only asking to be the default browser numerous times, but it also requested to import all my Firefox history and favorites.

Thing is, this version of Safari is really nice, and with the iCloud syncing with my iOS devices I've really been tempted to ditch Firefox. But without proper RSS support, it's a nonstarter. RSS is how I do all my news browsing. In Firefox I have feeds organized by category, and can quickly skim a site's feed to see if anything interests me. The latest Safari brought back RSS with its Shared Links feature, but that simply dumps every story from every RSS feed you've subscribed to into the sidepanel in a cluttered mess. No thanks.
