and sends your data to Google

You can turn off ALL information gathering options in Chrome by simply unticking boxes in settings and changing default search provider. In fact this is all those privacy-focused Chromium derivatives like SRware Iron do, they just remove those options completely.

I mean, if you have prediction service turned on and Google set as search provider, OF COURSE everything you type into omnibox will be sent to Google. Just like with Spotlight in Yosemite.

still can't reopen closed tabs

One of the BIG reasons I refuse to use Safari is still the lack to re-open closed tabs. And more than just the last closed tab. Maybe the last 5 close tabs. I can do this with Firefox and Chrome. Try closing several tabs in Firefox or Chrome and then use +shift+T. Now do it again and again and again. Trust me, you like it!

Safari is to Apple as IE is to Microsoft
I've always relegated Safari as being Apple's "IE". Each OS maker thinks that need their own web browser and they all SUCK.

favicons

Safari was looking really dated, I like the updated clean lines.

Would happily move across from Chrome but for my love of favicons. I know it's sacrificing performance for window dressing but visual recognition works better for me. It even annoys me the favicons that aren't high res, noticeable on my rMBP.

What do people use Chrome extensions for? I never could understand, esp. since Safari has extension options.

The only reason I open Firefox is to use the addon that allows me to extract YouTube videos. If Safari has one of those I will be very happy. I love Safari and see no reason to use any other browser other than the one I mentioned.

Youtube Subscription Grid is amazing

Also Adblock Plus in Safari sucks. The limited API means you can't block video ads on Safari, but you can on Chrome + FF.

Dealbreaker for Safari for me.

Yet that said if Apple must stoop so low to get people to try the product, perhaps it's been too long since they've looked in the mirror.

Who's stooping? I get a similar message from Firefox and Chrome the rare times I've opened them. They ALL do it when their browser isn't the default browser.

Makes sense. I mean, don't tell anyone, but some websites are "tailored" for Firefox so I have to use it veeery rarely.

I must be dreaming, this can't be for real. Of course I like Safari more than anything else, of course I was happy using Safari instead of Firefox, but after Yosemite all of this was dead for many users. Instead of addressing concerns and complaints from Apple users no longer being able to access internet with Safari after Yosemite, how does Apple react? They don´t announce a fix for the problem, they invite people to try more. Am I taking drugs or are they taking drugs?

Blows my mind why Mac users use anything other than safari. It's way more integrated and looks 10x better. There's so many little things in chrome that puts me off like bookmarks and not being able to press command z to open the last closed tab.

Try using Command+Shift-T and you can open not just the last closed tab but any number of last closed tabs in order of which they were closed. Same with Firefox. Safari is the one that is crippled because at best I can only open the last closed tab and no more.

I use Chrome for Windows and Safari for Mac. I know it's not optimal but I prefer it that way (I use extensions for sharing between two, Pocket is good).

And wow, I love the streamline look of new Safari. Beautiful and fast as it should be. It's the only software that I am using for almost 90% of my time on my Mac everyday, I don't expect less than how it is now.

NOPE! Not happening here until Apple have safari with flash built in like Chrome then we can talk.

Agreed. With built-in flash and automatic updates, not only do I not have to deal with the annoying "Update Flash" notifications what seems like every other day, but Chrome updates itself silently in the background as well. When I come back to my browser all I have to do is browse the web.

I'm not sure that you get the difference.... If you open FF or Chrome, the browser will ask you if want to make it the default browser (if FF or Chrome already isn't the default).

What Apple is doing in Yosemite is taking it one step further. The OS is detecting when you're launching a competitor browser and asking you to try Safari instead. Chrome and FF aren't doing that... they aren't peddling to you when Safari is launched.

See the difference? And see how it can be considered "stooping" for Apple to do this? I happen to agree it's pretty low for Apple to resort to such tactics.

Couldn't agree more, Safari on Yosemite is truly something else. It's also the most efficient and plays great with iOS devices, why even use those crap alternatives?
Because Chrome is truly cross-platform which is a God send for all people who have to keep their Windows PC or Android devices in sync with their Mac and iOS devices. Chrome was also still snappier than Safari, last time I checked.

Been using NoSquint in Firefox for too long to bother with anything else, there just doesn't seem to be a decent zoom extension for the others with global setting and per site overrides

AllPagesZoom for safari is OK but
1 as name suggests its strictly global
2 it loads the page and then zooms it which is a bit, how shall I say? ...blechh

Security is all that matters

I've always struggled to see the reason for third-party browsers. Choice is good, but I don't know anything of note that Chrome/Firefox have that Safari doesn't.

I think you answered your own question... I only use third party browsers, because they're third party browsers. Belt & Suspenders... Firefox and Chrome can be locked down and tuned far more than Safari and therefore both are faster and more secure for me. But if you like to use your browser in default config, well good for you.

Because Google and Mozilla totally don't have their own OS

What's the name of the torrent extension you mentioned? Thanks!

What extension are you using for the torrent feature? Can you tell me where to get some info on setting this up? I'd love to do this.

Sure here is the link the plugin.

Remote Torrent Adder

I've been using it over a year and it works perfectly with uTorrent and rTorrent. It also supports other clients including Deluge, Transmission, Vuze but I've not tried it with those clients.
