Very underwhelming. The new iMac is an iPad Pro on a stand (with Big Sur and no touch screen). Or is the new iPad Pro an iMac without a stand (with iPadOS and a touchscreen)? Why are these still two separate devices with two separate operating systems at this point? When is Apple going to finally commit and make this a true hybrid ecosystem?

That aside, I like the new Apple TV remote. Don’t really have any personal use for Airtags at the moment, but might pick one up someday.
I think the distinction is only academic.

They are just showing off now, taking our wallets with them.
They've been doing that to me since 1998.

Do you think Apple will come out with an OLED version with a new design and a new pencil soon?
I honestly don't know but I doubt it, although I'm happy with the current infrastructure.

I only want a bigger iPad from Apple at this point. That's it. It doesn't even have to have an M1 in it (although it'd be great if it did).

The RAM sizes and possible limitations are definitely a concern for me. The amount of Ram would probably be fine for the next couple of years. But after that? AFAIK you cannot add memory to whatever computer that you bought. And I don’t know if you can add anything at all beyond 16 GB even at original ordering. Maybe you can, maybe you can’t. Maybe you have to buy a new computer that has a better processor but will still have the same memory constraints. I don’t know, and I haven’t found an information source which can tell me.
Apple drew this line in the sand a long time ago.

The Mac Pro will be the ONLY upgradeable Apple product.

Apple is further refining it's portfolio to target most computing needs, but not ALL.

This iMac seems more consumer-y/light-pro than its predecessor (think iPhone 12 vs 12 Pro), which leads me to believe that a new iMac Pro is coming.

We still have another whole year before the Apple silicon transition is complete, and the Mac Pro is the elephant in the room.

So now that the iPad has M1 , whats the difference between an iPad Pro and iMac?
They all have M1, SSD, RAM, and a screen.

Here is my honest take; and you won’t agree but it’s my opinion; apple has lost everything that used to make it great, all the updates are minor, the airtags I don’t see the point, Apple TV has a way old chip and nothing really new still over priced, the new iMac is well in my opinion disgusting it looks like a Lenovo all in one, it now makes the old one look nicer, the new one just looks like a kids computer now. The iPad Pro is kinda cool but again all this power and hardware just to run iOS apps there is nothing my 2018 can’t run on it so what’s the point, am I missing something but where is the wow factor gone; as usual the hype before an event is always a lot better, about spend to much time talking about climate change in these events, I am upset because a company I love has gone so down hill; yeah they make a lot of money but speaking from a huge apple fan I just don’t get excited anymore; anyways respect my views

You make good critism but I wouldn't say it lost everything.

1-iOS solid and secure
2-M1 computers
3-MacOS
4-Airpods
4-Airtags are nice new products

FWIW, my little list of opiniions:

  • Apple TV: yay! Looking forward to a faster Apple TV and much better remote.
  • AirTags: look so good they're almost considered a pice of jewelry... Will be getting 4.
  • iMac 24". Like many I was expecting more. Just an M1. Only 24 (23.5)". In itself a cute Mac, but in no way a replacement for 27' iMacs of the recent years.
Need 30" or more, and probably a 32 GB memory option to be really better than the top 2017 / 2019 iMac models.
The colours..? Hmm... like the old G3 iMacs 5 colour option: very nice, if you don't want space grey.
  • iPad: in short: Great!.. but very expensive.... want an 11" M1.. but need to justify buying one
  • Oh, Purple iPhone.

My concern is still how much does memory affect performance. I bought 24 GB for my current iMac, a January 2016 27 inch. I don’t know yet if I will be able to buy a 32 GB version of whatever the 27 inch replacement ends up being. I don’t know how important more memory is. If picture and video editing programs advance as they have the last 5 years what would be the minimum recommended system to cover the next 5 years? For every article or post that raves about speed even with only 8 GB I find one that says that their system keeps getting slower. Who do you believe and why?

For colours usage you don't need chips. ;)
That is the question I am pondering if there is a global chip shortage why introduce so many colours and even an iPad Pro with it. Surely some colour options will be more popular than others.

They don’t bank colour options. The final casing and assembly is done in China. They are very efficient with the process and can essentially do JIT or just in time manufacturing.

I'd say, believe yourself.

If you are in the market for one of these (I'd wait until after WWDC, but still), get it, save the packaging, and put it through the paces you need it to go through within the 2-week return period.

Yep, nothing much in differences.

Except for the OS, the primary means of interaction, the ability/inability to attach/detach the keyboard & trackpad, the ability to use the Pencil on it, the amount of ports, the screen size, the amount of precision/imprecision necessary, the ability to touch/keep finger dirt off the screen, and the portability (or lack thereof).

For starters.

If there’s one thing I can’t stand it’s someone giving me good practical advice about something that I am being unreasonable about. Quit it. 🤓

I keep forgetting about the 2 week return policy. I don’t think it was there the last time I bought a computer.

C'mon Apple, work your magic!...iMac w/chin= no purchase
Apple: iMac w/o chin = not an iMac.

You're going to be waiting a VERY long time for this.

Think about it, the new iPad Pro is a smaller iMac plus a battery!

Apple had every opportunity to remove the chin, and CHOSE not to.

Looks like this will remain the iMac silhouette forever.

Yup. It was a sensible choice AND it retains the iconic silhouette.

I am wondering if JiT manufacturing costs Apple more and if worth it rather than holding some excess within local store inventory.

Seems that the M1 is not effected by the global chip shortage as it’s included in the 2021 iPad Pro. So not sure why a larger screen iMac/Pro 30” was not announced unless the “Pro” machines are going to be revealed at WWDC.
