I find VR/AR extremely overrated and just boring in general so I hope its not a long topic if it is one.

My educated-ish guess:

Peek = VR/AR Glasses.

That logo in the invite is 3D going inward like recent 3D movies.

That AND we get to peek at what's coming soon (but won't be ready at the event).

Nope. “Peek” is defined to be furtive. No way Apple starts off its glasses by associating them with that concept.

I like speculation basing on the colours of the invitation. The colours of the Apple logo strongly suggest products with 6 colours, which coincide with the current iMac (except grey and the not very popular green). How about the new MacBook (Air)? They will not be available soon as suggested by the title of the event, which is a sneak peek performance in the Apple Theatre :p

It makes more sense to do it at WWDC and announce GlassesKit or whatever they end up calling their APIs for it.

Yes, please a larger iMac... My Late 2015 works fine, but I am ready to upgrade. One question for the M1 owners - does Microsoft Office for Mac work with the Apple ARM chip Macs? I would prefer not to have to migrate to the Apple apps.
Yes, the Office apps are fully AS ready.

Here is a good place to check which apps are already recompiled for Apple Silicon

I don’t get it. If what was mentioned in the OP is all that is announced, it will be a very boring event indeed. All this products are just slight iterations that can be announced on a regular Tuesday. Surely there must be more to add ?

That would be pretty weak. Any chances there will be a redesigned MacBook Air?
I'm puzzled by this event. I think there will be at least one unexpected surprise. I just hope the surprise is something that's coming, and not something that's NOT coming...

Timing makes sense for an M2, however the rumoured products don't make sense for such a high profile CPU launch. In my mind the M1 (and thus M2) is first and foremost a Macbook Air CPU, that is also used in various other products (the weird 13" MBP, Mac Mini, iMac, iPad Pro). I can't see them launching M2 in those other products, without launching it for Macbook Air. But rumours say the new Macbook Air is not ready yet, and they won't put M2 in the old Macbook Air and then have a new one later this year. My hope is they will launch new Macbook Air with M2 at this event, but with slightly delayed (and probably limited) shipping. Hence the "peek"?

Another option is that M2 is not at this event, and we will see new models with M1 Pro/Max, such as Mac Mini. Plus iPad Air of course. But that makes for a very weak event, unless there is something unexpected.

One thing that sprung into my mind: What if Apple has the Mx chips on a two-year core cycle? What if they are skipping a core version? Forcing themselves to update every Mac variant every year might be too aggressive, especially for the Pro/Max versions. Think about it: M1 launched just a month after the equivalent A14 in iPhone 12. A year later we got not a new core version equivalent to A15, we got more cores on the M1. The new Mac Pro will likely launch later this year with even more M1 cores. It's normal for (actual) pro products to be bulkier rather than newer technology, so lots of last years cores still outperforms a few of this years cores. Similar to Intel Xeon. In other words, a core generation takes a couple of years to fully roll out. Still, it feels wrong to launch a very expensive Mac Pro with an M1 generation chip, after you launched the M2. So, launching (even if not shipping) Mac Pro at WWDC, and then M2 in October/November after the iPhone has presented a new core generation, makes sense to me. This means, no M2 and no Macbook Air at this event.

This imaginary(!) scenario leaves us with an event that includes iPhone SE3, iPad Air, "Mac Mini Pro" with M1 Pro/Max, and a 13" MBP with M1 Pro/Max (which would differ from the rumours saying M2).

Imaginary Timeline:

October 2020: A14
November 2020: M1 (A14 based)
October 2021: A15
November(?) 2021: M1 Pro/Max
July 2022: M1 Ultra (Mac Pro)
October 2022: A16
November 2022: M2 (A16 based)
October 2023: A17
July-November 2023: M2 Pro/Max
July 2024: M2 Ultra
October 2023: A18
etc.

On the other hand, while I'm imagining things, they might be readying a scenario where the "base" M-version gets updated every year in March, based on the A-version launched in October (with the M1 being the outlier launched early). And then the Pro/Max/Ultra versions only get updated every other year. This makes the timing now right for M2, and for a Macbook Air that SHOULD have been at this event, but wasn't ready (or is it?)

All this to say, launching the M2 without a Macbook Air doesn't seem right.

Of course not. "Peek" implies we are going to "see" new Apple Glasses.
Whatever the AR product is, it will either be presented at WWDC if the launch is developer oriented, or at an iPhone event (like the watch) to reach the largest audience. Not at a March event. They are not in a hurry.

Peek performance. Not peak performance.
Well I think that we will get a "peek" at what they are releasing later. Otherwise it would be "peak". So I am only expecting a peek at the future. It is a word game

Becouse you are in extreme minority. Most people simply don't want a screen this small for their laptop.
They can put a 13" screen in that body... XPS 13 is proof... Also by your logic then the iPad 11 is doomed for failure as a productivity device.

Any chances that a new Air will be shown? Peek performance doesnt sound like they would introduce a new entry product I would assume. I have an old heavy 7 year old notebook at this point, and I wouldnt mind getting the current Air(I only do light code editing on the go - 8gb is fine) but if a new one is around the corner I'd wait. Thanks

It is a peek at the remainder of the M1 transition; Mac mini, 27" iMac, Mac Pro...

M1 Pro/Max Mac mini desktops available after Event...

M1 Pro/Max 27" iMac desktops available WWDC...

Dual/Quad M1 Max Mac Pro desktops available September...

This completes the transition from Intel to Apple silicon...

M2 14" MacBook laptops, Mac mini desktops, & 24" iMac desktops available October...

The Apple logo in the invite uses the 24” iMac colours… maybe M2 in new 24” iMacs? Coloured mini’s?

The colors in the Apple in invitation.
Wonder if that could be the colors of new larger iMac and/or new monitors? Nice.

I am still confused by the naming of the silicon chips. Didn't Apple just promote the M1 Max chip as the best chip ever on the market less than half a year ago? Now they are already releasing a M2? Does that mean the M2 will be better than the M1 Max since it has a "2" in the name or does it simply imply the next generation of the "regular" M1 and the M1 Pro and Max will still be better than the M2?

I’m hoping they’ll have new colours for the SE. Purple or pink would be nice. I really want white bezels back too. It makes it easier to differentiate the bezels from the screen so I don’t end up putting my fingers on it. Making the SE smaller would be wonderful too but I know that’ll not be happening.

Have no idea why the M2 is showing up already in some people’s speculations. They have hardly started introduce M1 and less finished the upgrade of the product line to M1 Pro/Max.
M2 is not going to happen anywhere soon. Sure M2 will be somewhat better than M1. But it’s the Pro/Max Dual/Quattro etc chips that are the thing. The M1, 2, 3….will just be upgrades every or every second year, or something like that.

given its ipad time, and although I love the iPad product I am sorry to say it has become very stale. There is nothing exciting in the hardware side of things and on the software side of things its just smartphone OS on turbocharge.

i dont think the M2 is the "peek" for this event...since im expecting the M2 to be release in at least 1 mac this friday, or at maximum by the end of this month
So what this peek perf could mean? a peek for the upcoming Mac Pro? but that was always about WWDC and the developers
What do you guess/think?
