My body and :apple: Card is ready. I would like to trade in my 2018 Intel mini for the 2022 version if it gets announced. If not I may go with the new MacBook Air.

Presumably it will be the same leap as A14 to A15. Adjusted for the number of cores.
Yes and no.
The A15 is ~12% faster than the A14, while using ~20% less power. That's nice, and a really good tradeoff for iPhone where almost everyone wants longer battery life more than they want high performance.

OK, now let's pivot to the M2. Longer battery life would be nice for the iPad Pro, but not a huge deal, and no-one's going to get excited about even longer battery life for MacBooks, let alone Mac Mini or iMac.
And, don't forget, M2 will probably be on TSMC N4 rather than current A15 on N5, giving us a few more percent energy reduction and a few more percent higher density.

So the interesting question is how does Apple use all that margin? Ship an M2 that looks just like an A15'd version of the M1 (so much better GPU, ~12% faster, much lower power)? That seems unambitious!
My guess is we see the extra area and power being converted into performance via changes like
- more cores (4+4 P cores? 3+3 P cores? a single 6-core P cluster?) I suspect a single 6-core P cluster is the best performance/area tradeoff right now, but 4+4 may be easier to put together in a hurry.
- larger GPU (larger even than expected from the A to M transition, so like halfway between the M1 and the M1 Pro)?
- even larger caches? boring, but quick and easy, and do the job.

- along with initial steps at improving the complaints people have had about the limited M1 IO options (eg not enough screen outputs, and support for double the RAM)

And, one hopes, they will get minor but nice features like U1 as part of the general upgrading.

Apple chooses their words carefully so it when I see Peek Performance

Peek = a quick and/or brief look

Performance = effectiveness / speed of a system

So a quick look at speed stuffy to come in the future? Sounds like announcements for future stuff we won't even be able to pre-order yet.

Thoughts?
It's Pique Performance, as in "Intel will be so piqued after seeing this"!

More seriously, what they want to suggest at is vision and, Ta Da, Apple Glasses. But I think that's premature, Glasses are the sort of thing announced at a larger event.
But a real vision issue could be much better FaceTime cameras, and even Face ID?

My late 2013 iMac is running great but it’s time to update. Torn in getting a Mini and separate monitor so I can dock my work Dell laptop or wait for a 27” iMac. I do photo and video work so the current iMac isn’t suitable.

Apple today announced that it will be holding its first event of 2022 on Tuesday, March 8 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus in Cupertino, California.

As with the 2021 events, Apple's first event of 2022 will continue to be a digital-only gathering with no members of the media invited to attend in person due to the ongoing public health crisis.

We've already heard quite a few rumors about what we can expect to see at the March 8 event. Apple is expected to announce the next-generation version of the iPhone SE, a revamped iPad Air, and at least one Mac with an Apple silicon chip, which could be the Mac mini, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, or both.

The third-generation iPhone SE will look similar to the second-generation model available now, and no design changes are expected. It will continue to feature thick bezels and a Touch ID Home button, but it will include an updated A-series chip, likely the A15, and faster 5G connectivity. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said it will be Apple's most affordable 5G iPhone.

Apple isn't going to make any design changes to the next-generation iPad Air either, but it too will get a faster chip and 5G connectivity. It could also be updated with a new FaceTime camera that supports Center Stage, the feature that keeps you in frame even as you move around the room.

As for Macs, Apple is rumored to be planning to release a higher-end version of the Mac mini with an overhauled design and M1 Pro and M1 Max chips. The new Mac mini will replace the current Intel Mac mini options, and it could come at Apple's March event.

The final device rumored for March 8 is an updated version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which is said to be equipped with an M2 chip, the successor to the M1 chip. The MacBook Pro will look identical to the current 13-inch model, and it will be a lower-end version of the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that have M1 Pro and M1 Max chips.

The M2 chip will feature the same 8-core CPU as the M1, but speed and efficiency improvements are expected, as are GPU improvements. Rumors suggest the M2 chip will be available in 9 and 10-core GPU options, up from the 7 and 8-core GPU options available with the original M1 chip.

Apple plans to stream the‌ event live on its website and in the Apple TV app when it kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time on March 8. For those unable to watch, MacRumors will be providing full event coverage both on MacRumors.com and through the MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

27in iMac please... probably not but its worth a shot!
Yes, please a larger iMac... My Late 2015 works fine, but I am ready to upgrade. One question for the M1 owners - does Microsoft Office for Mac work with the Apple ARM chip Macs? I would prefer not to have to migrate to the Apple apps.

My preference would be a 27 inch iMac, but if the rumors are correct it I am going to be disappointed. This will be the 3rd round of laptop releases and only 1 iMac and that a 24 inch with a lower res screen than 5k. I don't really have $2000 plus burning a hole in my pocket but I do have an 8 year old iMac that definitely shows its age when I work with photos.

Peek performance? What does that even mean?

If it's a word play of peak performance, then maybe we will see an updated higher performing Apple Silicon iMac and Mac mini, replacing the Intel ones currently still for sale?

Or does "peek" means FaceID? So iphone SE 3 will be using a design with FaceID?

My explanation for the event name is the following:

Apple will announce the M2 chip, which will be the first “peek” into the new core architecture that will also power the A16 processor later this year.

Everybody thinks performance of processor while apple tends to aim at user’s body performance lol… I presume airpods pro with more sporty features… or something health related.

That would be nice, and hopefully we will see the M2 MacBook Air being announced. It's been more than a year for the M1 MacBook Air

Peak Performance? M2? The most performance we will see? Before shrinkage and Power efficiency take over?

More M1 Max in the iMac 27" and the Mac mini ?

Then what?

I really wander about the Mac Pro ever going Apple Silicon and being a financial Hit for Apple.

Especially in high inflation and WAR.

People are scared of the future. Thats what starts a recession along with hyperinflation.

The terminology “peek” implies to me they are also going to show some very high performance (long awaited M-based Mac Pro?) at this event - a sneak “peek” of what is to come at WWDC?

My late 2013 iMac is NOT Running great at all. It’s like an elderly who wants to move to a hospice home or who needs suicidal assistance.
I am not torn, but I would like to see both options of MacMini Pro/Max + a new consumer 27/32" Apple monitor, and the new iMac ~32" before I decide which option I want.
Also depending on what will be available the soonest. I am however leaning towards the MacMini Pro/Max and buying one monitor now and expanding with another one later. Also depending on what price range new Apple monitors comes in, or if it be 1 and 2 LG's.

Lot of questions still, but a lot of desires an expectations here ?
The peek also might indicate that we will see these new Macs, and have to wait yet a few months for them. Heaven forbid, but I am prepared for yet more waiting if I have to.
But I am so looking forward to see what are coming. Finally.

are we finally going to get a new HomePod?

Rumor is Apple will repurpose the original HomePod chassis for a subwoofer, the SubPod; they will also announce software to work with AppleTV, HomePods, & SubPods for 10.2 surround; gotta maximize unit sales...! ;^p

I wrote about this before. They are going to introduce the new smaller MP, that will only be available to sell in June, and WDDC will be all about AR/VR.
I certainly hope not. Apple needs to do a little bit more to help the Arm transition. There is still a large amount of software that is not Apple Silicon native yet.
