This confirms my suspicions about the company formerly known as Apple Computer. What a lousy time I chose to switch, when computers are Apple's lowest priority.

Don't count on it. As SJ has said, once you put features in to something you really can't take them out.
Except: That's exactly what they did when they first tried nixing the FW800 on the MBP, then nixed the FW on the iPods and then nixed Disk Mode on their portable players.

Don't believe everything simply because your favourite corporate guy tells you to.

yeah thats what i was thinking too:D

Well according to AI the roadmap doesnt show new notebooks coming until late sept-oct. I guess I'm just gonna have to wait till the 9th and see what happens. I would be mad if i bought now and there was a "one more thing" and I missed out on an update. 7 days now I guess. And can I actually expect the updates to be in the back to school promo in case there is any?

Question concerning release of new ipods

So assuming that apple is in fact releasing a new ipod touch on september 9th, how long would it, or how long does it usually take for it to be available for purchase on the apple website?

In other words im asking, WHEN CAN I BUY IT, lol...:)

I don't understand this comment. What would constitute a "real" update? A different form factor? To what end, just because you're bored with the current one?

I know what you mean. I'm the computer tech at an elementary school and over the summer, we overhauled a lot of our network infrastructure (totally new wireless, a few new switches, created some VLANs, and erased & rebuilt our servers from scratch) and other behind the scenes things. However, there are a few teachers who think we didn't do anything b/c they only register that things have changed if there's a big visual difference, like new computers. If they can't see the change, they don't think it happened.

I think you misunderstand. I mean both the iPhone & the iPod Touch would have the same amount of memory, have all the same apps, but the iPod Touch won't have the phone.

Actually I think you misunderstand, why would I buy an iPhone if i can have a phone just for phone calls for $40 a month and an iPod touch that can do everything an iPhone can 'cept the phone calls and spend less overall. Not to mention if they were to have the same amount of memory they would have to A) drop the amount of memory in the iPod touch cause that much will not fit in the iPhone as is or B) make the iPhone bigger to fit the same amount of memory in the iPhone as the iPod touch. And I don't know about this so I don't want to assume you were meaning this as well so I will ask, are you also talking about 3g, GPS, and a camera in the iPod touch?

Can't of been talking about hardware, or else he was giving the opposition a false lead, 'cause the MBA removes the optical drive, the original iMac stripped out all the serial ports. Nor software come to think of it - Leopard stripped out Classic Mode, iMovie 7 trashed a load of stuff from iMovie HD.

Run through of trading since last update, App store a great success, iPod sales peaking on classic model.

iTunes 8 Demo, Available OCT.

iPod Nano (exactly as rumoured about, available in 5 colours today)

iPod Touch, Rounded plastic back available in 2 colours, looks much like the iPhone but thinner, 64Gb option available today.

Nike + for iPhone and iPod Touch, available today, Demo.

Heard it here first.

Yup, and leopard also stripped the option in Address Book to SMS directly from it.

Good call. I would get a B&O player but I'm still in love with my iPhones(s).

New nanos. 16GB & 32GB. Same price points. New form factor.

New shufffle colors. Same capacity and price points.

iPhone 32GB $399 (subsidized).

iPod Touch 32GB $299
iPod Touch 64GB $399
(8GB & 16GB models are discontinued)

iPod Classic 120 $249
iPod Classic 240 $349

iTunes 8.

And the biggie:
The return of NBC to the iTunes store.

--> Can't HAVE, not OF <--

i just hope they come out with a substantial iphone update either before or corresponding with this event so i can get back to some semblance of productivity with my iphone. as is, when it takes me 20 seconds to load any app, and when i can finally type something with the stalling on letters, it is so horribly annoying. that an the apps crashing all the time and 3G dropping calls . . . new and exciting is great, but let's get what we do have up to 100% first!

I think this is very close. The only thing I would change is that the iPod Touch sizes stay the same but prices fall to $199 and $299.

I have a feeling this is going to be a iTunes only update...

It didn't make sense apple to do a update to their MB's that close to the end of school promo. By Sept 15th most students have already purchased their computers.

I hope that Apple REALY has a very very very good update for their laptops. Its about time.

Please, a third USB port and dedicated graphics on a 1400$ computer would be nice. Time for Apple to catch up hardware wise with their computers.

@ EVERYBODY demanding new laptops
Just because you want new MB/MBPs does not mean there will be. You are not entitled to one just because you want one. Apple goes at their own pace, with their own product schedules, that do not revolve around you. Be happy with the iPod updates, and then wait for the laptop updates. Stop filing threads up with your pointless complaints.

Wow, don't head any companies anytime soon...

Last I checked we were the consumers. :)

True. In July I bought a HP laptop for just under $900 with a 320GB HD, 4GB ram and dedicated video, plus 3 USB ports, card reader and S Video output.

I sold my MB and MBP last week.

Except that the iPod Touch cannot browse unless you are at a wifi hotspot whereas the iPhone can browse anywhere with a cell signal. The GPS has been WAY handy as of late too. :)
