Wow, don't head any companies anytime soon...

Last I checked we were the consumers. :)

Apple RARELY takes a "customer is always right" stance. They go at their own pace, announce products that THEY LIKE. They don't do a lot of focus groups, they just build products and software that they want.

If you want a company that releases new machines every month when the new processors or GPUs come out, then go back to Dell or HP. Apple maintains higher quality products in the long run under their business model.

At any rate, this is not the thread to discuss it. I would suggest everyone interested in this topic go back to the laptop forums and discuss it there.

Maybe an OBAMAPOD? Or a name change for the nano to the PALIN since it doesn't hold that much? :D

Nah. If it was an OBAMAPod you'd have to hope it worked, and the Bill Ayers edition would surely bomb. :D Better just call it an iPod, which is a proven winner.

Except that the iPod Touch cannot browse unless you are at a wifi hotspot whereas the iPhone can browse anywhere with a cell signal. The GPS has been WAY handy as of late too. :)

You're assuming that guzhogi is not talking about adding 3G capabilities to the iPod Touch making it much like the archos, i don't know if he was talking about this or not so I didn't address it

I would suggest that this IS the forum to discuss this as it relates to iPod's as well.

To be a successful multi-billion dollar company, you don't just make products that YOU choose and hope the public wants to buy them. last I checked, Apple DOES have a R&D dept. People will want newer, fancier products with new features, hence the new iPod's.

Apple also came up with something like the iPhone because it saw a need in the lacking "Smart" phone area. Perhaps the new iPod's will have some new "Wow" factor as well but it's not simply because Apple just decided it should have it.

100% iPod event here...

Predictions - iTunes 8 , complete refresh of iPods across the board.

Well, stinks for all of those waiting for the new MacBooks, but I already got one with a Touch a couple of days ago so I'm not as worried :)

There have been numerous articles about how Apple comes up with new product ideas. Needless to say, it's far closer to how I described it, than the "normal" model you suggest.

At any rate, this thread is more suited to your laptop discussion. Go there and vent.

Remember, not everyone needs a new laptop.
Not everyone, but I do. :) I'm looking forward to buying my first Mac; I've inherited various used ones (a Mac IIcx, a Centris 610, and a PowerMac 6100) over the years, but wasn't willing to go with a Mac when I went off to college because I still needed Windows (for both games and for software development for classes).

Four years later, I've graduated and can finally afford a second machine, and I want to get a MacBook. But I'd be an idiot to buy one now.

I'm disappointed, but not in a major hurry for a laptop and I am going to wait it out. I go back to uni soon and I do have a laptop (mind you an EEE PC), but it will do until the laptops are upgraded.

And the biggie:
The return of NBC to the iTunes store.
Now THAT. my friend, is a bona fide biggie.

If they did, however, could we PLEASE get the most recent season of L&O: Special Victims Unit??? The 200th episode with Robin Williams was a real treat.

BJ

Now let the various interpretations / speculations begin: what does Apple actually refer to with the "Let's Rock" in the invitation? Aren't we rocking already with the current iTunes store and various iPods?? What about the longish looking iPod the figure in the picture is holding? Why 5 stars? And what exactly is the significance of the progress bar? Is that picture displayed on an iMac - or is it a new cinema display?? Etc... :D

Personally, I CAN'T WAIT!!! :p

The blue progess bar is about 16% complete which might indicate 16GB Nano's!:D

True. In July I bought a HP laptop for just under $900 with a 320GB HD, 4GB ram and dedicated video, plus 3 USB ports, card reader and S Video output.

I sold my MB and MBP last week.

I might do the same as you in a few years unless Apple gets their head in the game. They need to take the billions they have, give us less expensive computers with better more widely common hardware for the price.

But we wont get that. We are Apple. 9/10ths of people are just happy to have a apple logo on their computer. Apple knows this. So we will see no really relevant upgrades.

Thinner really means nothing, their computers are thin enough. 3-6 pounds is light enough for most everyone. Minor speed bumps of 200mhz mean nothing really to most people. Rounded edges on a computer mean nothing to the average user, other than it looks better (you must admit the air is gorgeous), But this is all we will see from them for awhile to come.

i just hope they come out with a substantial iphone update either before or corresponding with this event so i can get back to some semblance of productivity with my iphone. as is, when it takes me 20 seconds to load any app, and when i can finally type something with the stalling on letters, it is so horribly annoying. that an the apps crashing all the time and 3G dropping calls . . . new and exciting is great, but let's get what we do have up to 100% first!

I feel the same way about Leopard and a number of Apple products as of late.

Not if you want real phone service. I'll stick w. Verizon and get a touch, thank you very much.:p

While I do have a couple of iPhones (ok, one belongs to wifey), when I go runnning I take only my iPod touch. It's thinner, lighter and I won't be pestered with inane questions from staff calling me :D

No thanks, I have no interest in purchasing a new machine in the near future but thanks again for trying to guess what others want/need. :)
