I have successfully obtained images of the new MacBooks, they are changing the name officially to simply "Macintosh Portable" and the final products look something like this:

<snip>

I am excited about this. I love the inclusion of the trackball. I think this is a much more desirable implementation than the advanced trackpads, or even a tablet.

I think the new iPod line will look like this:

iPod shuffle

2 GB $69
4 GB $99

Available up to 10 different color cases. We may see a small display for the first time.

iPod nano

8 GB US$149
16 GB US$199
32 GB US$249

8 GB in silver only, 16 GB available in up to 10 different color cases, 32 GB in black and Product Red colors only. Design looks more like 2G nano but with 16:9 widescreen display and goes to Mini USB connector similar to those found on Creative and Sandisk players.

iPod classic

120 GB US$249
240 GB US$299

Looks identical to current 6G models but with higher capacity hard drives and an updated interface.

iPod touch

16 GB US$249
32 GB US$299
64 GB US$349

Will switch to second-generation iPhone case and is essentially the iPhone 3G minus the cellphone functionality.
No.

A display on the shuffle?

The nano moving away from the universal connector? To a mini-USB no less.

240 GB? Who's doing the tech to accomplish that feat? Much less mass produce it this year?

The high end iPod touch has a $150 price drop along with increased capacity?

I'm so totally - like excited that, you know... that the event is for iPods. That's hot. It's so cool that Apple cares so much, like you know, the uh... eh, people who like to rock with iPods. Yeah, I know people, like want computers and stuff... but, the iPods are so much more... like you know, exciting... computers and stuff is not as cool as iPods.

Sorry about the rest of you guys, but I'm perfectly happy with the news. I've already got a Macbook and don't need an update (unless it's a dedicated graphics card, but that's another story). But I do want a new iPod Touch.

Most likely GPS, price drop, memory increase, and who knows what else. Maybe 2.0 included standard?

Beautiful, just beautiful. Wheels and telescoping handle, I assume, are optional.

You're already here; why go anywhere else?

Macrumors isn't always the first to publish stories, but unless you need to know 30 seconds before everyone else, it'll be posted on the main page as soon as it happens. If you do feel that compulsion, I suggest scheduling a massage appointment and unplugging everything for a few days. It's just an iPod.

Then you're definitely in the right place. There will be 300 "omg it's awesome" posts and 200 "I hate this because one little thing is different" posts and 100 "They still didn't give me x, therefore I won't buy it" posts within a day. There will be no shortage of information.

Thanks... I definitely will have MacRumors open. Since I recently discovered the site I tend to spend more time here than I do on my work.... Like now for example :D I was hoping to be able to actually watch the event, if possible, but if not live I will watch the video once online, no big deal.

I'm really excited to see what comes out... Either way I will be getting an iPod touch, my decision is just between the current or the new one.... I'm not too particular, but I want to make sure that the good far outweighs any bad that I see in the new one. One of the biggest downfalls for me would be a plastic back, maybe I'm crazy, but I just don't want the plastic back like the new iPhone, for example. I don't really think there will be too many changes that would make me absolutely have to have the new one, but we will just have to see what actually happens. To be honest, I don't really care either way, I just want to get my hands on something soon or I may need to be locked up. (I've been wanting to get an Apple product of some sort for ever and just keep talking myself out of it. So last year for Christmas my brother wrapped up an edible Apple and put it in an Apple box  )

I'm just really happy to know that in a week or so I should be the proud owner of an :apple:  My main reason for waiting is just to see if there are a lot of bugs in it, being a new release... I always wait to buy things until bugs are worked out, to be honest I can't think of the last time I bought something as soon as it was released... I also tend to over research products before buying them.

Thanks again!

<By the way I was just kidding here>

I heard 2.1 will be standard...

Most likely Macworld 2009. Umm....that would be January for all the noobs here today.

Reading that article and thinking, if the Macbook Pro pricedrop is true, it may prove to be that the MacBook Touch will be the new flagship notebook. I don't know if it would have higher specs than the MBP but I could see it happening.

A couple of comments:

1) There's been interest in putting a display on the shuffle--after all, Creative ZEN Stone Plus and the Sansa Clip already have such displays. This becomes important with more and more storage capacity on the shuffle, which means a lot more songs capable of being stored on the player.

2) The 4G nano might still retain the standard iPod dock connector, provided there is enough space on the bottom of the player for one. Going to the Mini USB connector isn't so far-fetched, since most non-Apple portable music players use them anyway.

3) I think the high-end classic will go to at least a 200 GB hard drive storage, since a lot of users what to store more or less their entire music collection on the player.

4) Why such big drops in iPod touch pricing? Simple: the iPhone 3G pricing forces Apple to drop the iPod touch to stay competitive.

Re point 2, it's unlikely they would move to mini-USB because they make lots of money licensing the dock connector to third parties.

Re point 3, it's more likely that they will be 120GB and 240GB, since the second largest capacity 1.8" HDD is 120GB and this will keep with previous practice of offering one and two HDD models.

(EDIT they could even go to 160GB and 320GB, but that will probably occur next year)

The MacBook and MacBook Pro was last updated in February 2008.

The iMac was last updated in April 2008.

The Mac Pro was last updated in January 2008.

The iPods (besides the shuffle and 32 GB touch) were last updated in September 2007, before the last Mac updates.

Then there's the Mini, which was updated August 2007. And the Apple Cinema display was updated April 2007.

So actually there are some non-iPod lines out there that are euqally (if not more so) overdue a refresh.

I hope they add built in speakers and bring some sort of gamepad to the Touch; make it more of a gaming platform to compete with the DS and PSP.

the touch is getting more and more attractive.
i currently have a iPhone 3G and an iPhone 2G

I wish i could just have one touch with all the media capabilities and a BB Bold for my email and everyday tasks.

oh well, im happy with my 3G cept keyboard :(

Wow, don't head any companies anytime soon...

Last I checked we were the consumers. :)

His point still stands - you are entitled to nothing. Apple will release new products when they are ready. I just love the people in this thread arranging their lives around Apple's release schedule, then whining when nothing appears on the date the want it to.

So why did the David Bowie song "Let's Dance" just pop in my head when I read the headline?! ;)

Let's hope it's not: "Let's ship more beta software or shoddy hardware."

I too am excited about the event as I would love to upgrade my touch to a 64gb, or dare I dream, a 128gb touch, but Apple needs to get their act together on the quality front. My new iPhone is a joke with its bugs and slow speed.

Fingers crossed the "old Apple" is back with killer products and quality...but boy, 128 gig iPod touch would be beyond killer.

Here's hoping for....

-bigger (and way improved software-wise) Classic. My 160GB is full.
- also, I want to be able to make playlists from the iPod, dammit.
(I don't mean on-the go playlists I mean smart playlists basically..like iTunes)

-new version of iTunes ......that is actually an improvement.

-healthy Steve Jobs (ok you can put this one first :D)

I couldn't help but notice reading some of the posts not just on this particular thread but many other threads on MacRumors over that last few months, all of the comments about how so many people are disappointed by no MacBooks til October or the "when are new MacBooks coming out I have been waiting months and months for one crowd."

Honestly, if you are in the market for a new notebook because you don't have one and you want/need a new one for school, business or whatever and you want a MacBook, go ahead and pick one up or order one today. It's not like it will be an obsolete machine in six months. Any MacBook or any Apple computer on the market today for that matter, will provide years of productivity. So go ahead and buy one now and appreciate the benefits of a new computer and the enjoyment of that new Macintosh you just purchased!

There are an unusually high number of 15" and 17" Macbook Pro's on the refurb store in the UK at the moment. Do we think the new Macbook Pro's could be the 'one more thing'?

you can could on a new ipod refresh every year about this time, so that the back to school wave can crash on it and people can start eyeing it for christmas. Im hoping ipod touch gets a wifi boost, fingers and toes are grossed for wireless-N

320gb iPod Classic please :D

But seriously I would like that. To carry my whole iTunes library on the go = epic win.

I'll settle for iTunes 7...8... whatever we're up to.

A 320Gb classic!! haha, Maybe those small increases in the MBA will be seen on the event as well, the slightly larger hdd and speed increases.
