I mean, I hate to really even bring this into the picture. But it's been a long-ass while since the MAC PRO line has seen a refresh... the last update was to the Harpertown architecture, and that was almost a year ago, or February rather as I recall. THe update was to 8-Core 2.8GHz, 3.0GHz, and 3.2GHz Xeon machines. Newer processors (ahem, Nehalem / Core i7) have come along and it's time for a major update.

People think that Apple sells few, and people buy few of the Mac Pro lineup, and that the demand is low, and this is not one of their flagship products. Rather, begging to differ, I think this is their bread and butter with their pro lineup that can run Leopard and pro apps, they need to keep the lineup refreshed. It's been too long, it's time for an update. Note: We have brand new iMacs, and the Penryn MacBook Pros, but the Mac Pros haven't been updated in quite a while.

Correction...the Mac Pro was updated in January a week before MWSF. Also, the update previous to that was a year! Therefore, the next update for the Mac Pro is very likely to be January 2009.

I'm not expecting alot.. just ipod updates, and who know itunes unlimited..

how about isight for appleTV? just plug it to the back of an appleTV and videoconference from your livingroom to any mac or other appleTV. :)

They'll probably only refresh when the 16 cores come out...

to be honest ALL macs can run the pro software, i'm running FCP and Motion on my mac mini! :D

But I want a 64GB iPod Touch now!!!!

people want an iphone nano becuse there is an ipod nano. they think apple will copy the ipod line up. thats not the case..

Or perhaps they simply want a smaller iPhone, a phone with about the same design but with less features and smaller volume, and in order to describe that, they're using the Nano-monicker.

Really, the main feature I want in iTunes 8 is performance and sound quality. I want it to be much more responsive (here's hoping to a cocoa re-write), especially now most people's libraries are getting quite huge.

please have a computer related ONE more thing! college starts soon
has that ever happened before at an ipod event??

I still dont think it will happen. it will cause to much confusion unless one day the iphone nano becomes the main phone and the current iphone becomes the return of the newton..

Who wants an iPhone with less features? The iPhone is already lacking features found in standard phones;
- Video Capture
- MMS Messaging
- Picture Messaging
- Blutooth File Transfer

Why would you want a smaller, cutdown iPhone with even less features?!

+1

also, with the promo pic on page 1, i wonder why the volume is around 25. could that mean something

if they release a black macbook pro like the one in the mockup that was release... I will sell my current laptop and buy that the day of release.... and i PRAY it has a blu-ray burner in it :)

If you notice, I didn't say I wanted one. Hell, I'm avoiding the iPhone like the plague.

Plus you forgot:

- Disk Mode (USB Mass Storage)
- copy/paste
- ability to edit documents
- ability to read documents unless you mailed them to yourself

(and I propably forgot quite a few).

Just imagine the iPhone shuffle. Program it with a set of fine ladies and then just press forward and back to call a random girl. Ha. It may eliminate the boredom factor and make dating more interesting. Maybe.

Voice commands (I dont know itf its on there already if not then add it)

lol good one.. :D

One more thing...

"But there is...one more thing."

After upgrading all the capacities of the other iPods on the 9th, Steve reminds everyone that there is one more iPod, the best iPod ever made, the iPhone 3G. After two months and 4 million sold, there's something that many still have been holding out for: an iPhone that can REPLACE their old iPod. Some have stuck with their old cell phone, purchasing an iPod Touch to get in on the App love. Some grabbed an iPhone, but still haul around they're classic for it's storage. 16GB doesn't cut it for a lot of people's music collection; 32GB is getting there for many. A 32GB model would be the first to come close to handling the functions of both a phone and iPod.

Backlash similar to the 2007 "too soon" price drop? No way, prices stay the same, simply an addition to the lineup with a $399 subsidized 32GB model. No one can complain. AND you've got the crowd that has to have the latest and greatest who'll ebay their brand new 16's and get the 32. That's how you sell 10 Million iPhones in a year.

Plus, a nice positive headline in the news for the world's most scrutinized phone.

There's alot of stuff to improve on in iTunes. It's still a pain in the ass to organize songs, and playlists are the only option. There's no color labelling for songs either. Imagine having a load of 2-hour long DJ sets on your computer, try about 250 - 300 of them, with your library totalling about 100GB of tunes to be conservative. Try finding a good way to organize these in the MAIN window (not in a bunch of playlists)...perhaps having contextual drop-downs to categorize these in the main window, the idea is seeing the tunes you want to see in the main window (ie library) -- organized the way you want....NOT seeing your whole raw slew of every sound file on your computer. This is just too annoying and it's time to fix this for good.

You'll most likely be waiting a long time.

2008 H1 - Harpertown - 4 (8) cores, 4 (8) threads
2008 H2 - Gainestown - 4 (8) cores, 8 (16) threads
2010 H1 - Westmere - 6 (12) cores, 12 (24) threads
2011 H1 - Sandy Bridge-EP - 6 (12) cores, 12 (24) threads
2012 H1 - Ivy Bridge-EP - ???

MacBook Updates, you say?
appleinivte16suod2.jpg

;)

I don't think the tablet's coming in September, otherwise it would have been rumored very recently. Apple could just be keeping heavy wraps on it though.

Given that the notebooks may be updated in October, maybe the tablet is coming then. That would increase the likelihood of an Apple Event in October, as it would not be just to redesign two notebooks and update another.
