How many times does it need to be mentioned that Apple (and all manufacturers for that matter) are not trying to get you to upgrade every year? These phones are aimed at people with iPhone 14 or older, and it's been that way for the past few cycles because that's how consumers are buying phones nowadays.
So why is the iPhone Upgrade Program still available? I mean Apple is not trying to get you to upgrade every year but has a program to upgrade every year.

Well this is funny: I priced out my Series 8 Aluminum last night and was seeing $168 trade in, but today it's down to $135. I don't usually trade anything in at Apple when upgrading but I know if I ever do in the future I'll start the process BEFORE the new products are announced.

At this rate I won’t be upgrading my 14 Pro until iPhone 19 Pro if Apple doesn’t get their heads outta their behinds.

I still can’t believe 128GB starting storage sizes.

AND Macbook Air starting storage 256GB.

It’s 2024, something’s gotta give here Apple and most people are voting with their wallets these days.

Hey at least RAM is rumored to start at 16GB for all new M4 model Macs coming out later this year. So that's something. I guess.

So the S10 is basically an S9 but 1mm bigger screen/3mm thinner, better brightness at an angle, and has a water temp/depth sensor.

I could trade in the S9 and get the S10 for £264 which is good but it’s not even worth it.

See ya next year.

Yeah only the 15 pro models and the new 16 models ( base and pro) get Apple intelligence.
And only the ones in the USA. In the meantime… google, Huawei, Microsoft and all big tech players are rolling out the same functionalities worldwide. By the time Apple Intelligence rolls out in the USA the other tech companies start to roll out their second generation.

Timmy can micro jump what he wants but he better put some money on new designs and developments.

Apple is becoming to look old like Timmy. Time for some new energy starting at the top. Someone who not only micro jumps on camera but is able to make big leaps in their whole product lines.

Watched the apple event today, main take away… for now on old folks will never have to buy a hearing aid again, Apple finally wrote the algorythm needed to turn their airPod pro in to a hearing device that will learn and boost the frequencies needed…. I suppose the only downside is it’s a multibillion dollar industry that will quickly disappear … but I have thought for many years that apple would eventually do this

I didn't even know this was on tonight, that's how interested I was in it lol. May take a look at the new Apple Watch though.

I switched off at the phrase an unparalleled celebration of colour.
An unparalleled celebration of verbal excrement more like. It’s time the moved back to an 24 month release cycle. There was nothing to see here. I’m a gadget hound like many here and usually manage to find some way to convince myself of the need to beggar myself. This time nope. I think they focussed on ai and dropped the ball on everything else.
What worse is I was in the market for a good set of headphones but I think focal or Dali will get my money instead of Apple now. USB c and some new colours for the max seriously!

Ok - I will try to be positive.

The hearing aid thing... is really cool and may be life changing for older folk with hearing loss. For that, I applaud Apple.
And for the sorta old. 56. Not going with hearing aids unless I’m mid 60’s. Needed or not. No friends. Family left. No one to hear.

what the hell was with the AirPods Max, just new colours and USB-C after 5 years!!
Yeah, this really stood out to me. I find it bizarre that Apple still can't even manage to keep all their product lines consistently updated to the same baseline.

This was a standout for me as well. I don't use one myself but I have relatives who do and I frequently hear about how poor the experience is.

Most of the rest of it was "we made a slightly newer version of thing"

It bodes ill for the coming Mac event...

do people really game on their phones? years ago i used to play solitaire... but now i scan instagram, facebook, reddit, etc... can't remember the last time i played ANY game on my phone!
Any game announced for iPhone (outside of the IAP cash grab ones) usually means they will be on Macs too. I believe RE 4 was demoed on the iPhone (or one of the RE games) but not on the Mac (maybe just a footnote). That is how I treat these segments.

I agree the hearing aid is probably the most exciting thing. I don’t know if it’ll do any good for me but I’m ever so slightly deaf in my left ear. I mean I can hear out it but it’s quieter. And I have tinnitus in it. I’ll be interested to try it out.

Of course they are trying to get people to upgrade every year. Not everyone will, they understand that, but to claim the goal is not to sell as many iPhones as possible is a bit silly. They spent quite a lot of time comparing performance to iPhone 15. That's a direct pitch to iPhone 15 owners.
Marketing science has established that no amount of marketing will make someone buy more of your product than the max amount they would already buy due to their consumption habits. People who upgrade every year statistically speaking will very likely still upgrade every year because it’s people that treat consumerism as a hobby and altering their consumption habits is difficult for them and they’ll always find ways to rationalize it (I’ll buy it and return it if I don’t love it, etc etc). Apple’s entire strategy is tailored to fulfill the consumption habits of the mass market which we know upgrades phones every 2 to 3 years, I don’t know that a direct comparison to a 15 only appeals to the owners of the 15, as a consumer with a 13 might think “wow it’s that much faster than last year‘s phone which means it must be a huge upgrade from my 3 year old phone“. So really they are appealing to the entire market (as they should) but more importantly the feature set of the phone is tailored to capture the people who are upgrading from a 2- 3 year old phone as they are the key mass market demographic that will help them maintain or increase their market share.

The LEAST they could do while giving us these minor hardware updates is deliver bold exciting colors. Something that would drive a person to want a change. My natural titanium 15PM has't really aged a year if I don't care about a capture button. I don't like the action button and prefer the slider.
