I'm not going to be a dum $ss and jump on this band wagon right away
Apple has always inflated their performance figures.
remember the G5 Mac Pro's VS INTEL
you people really hate Intel don't you.
Divided nation. Divided geeks I guess

I'm sticking with Intel and AMD until I see some true performance Killing and Intel CPU's like they claim.

The 2+4 on an iPhone XR work together. No reason why these wouldn't. However, the four power saving cores _are_ power saving.

Yeah, it really is a four core CPU since as you mentioned, those other four cores won’t be used for intensive applications, unless of course it can use AI to intelligently hand out different application processes/instructions on-the-fly to different cores.

Does anyone know if all iPad apps will run on the M1?

So could I get the udemy app, for instance, and download courses?

Hehe, did you really have to ask ?
if true i rather spend on mac mini last intel version. 16 gb is survive but 32 gb the best for my development. i still using base line 2017 with no hassle but if big project commin' let see

I seem to be one of the few that sees this as a massive step forward with great offerings. I think when the 16"is switched over I will sell my nearly year old 16" for the AS version. Apple is setting the pace. I cant see any PC laptop being able to compare...plus the PCs run windows. That already is a major minus. Anyway, good job Apple. (I am not a blind fan just lived in the PC world since 1980... I had enough of that confused jumble when I switched in 2013)

Wow. You can't even customize the 13-inch Pro beyond 16GB of RAM. Is this a step down or is it like iPhone where less RAM is equivalent to more on Android?
I don't think you understand how Apple Silicon Works.

You can run full Photoshop on a 4gb iPad Air.

What do you think an M1 chip with 8gb RAM will be like.

So you're calling people dumb asses for buying the first Intel Mac. That's rich. 🙄

If Intel was the only player in the market, I wouldn't have felt so much let down with Macbook Air. But the thing is Intel isn't the only player in the town anymore.

Now days You could get a thin & light with a Ryzen 4700U, 16 GB RAMs & 512 GB SSD at around $700. And you can replace the SSD. They also come with one extra slots & user replaceable RAM. Yeah Windows & Build quality can be a letdown for the others, but not for the majority whom Apple is targeting with this. I just hope it performs well.

so no 16"?
I think it's pretty self explanatory. Pros that rely on Windows VM's may need a slower transition than the rest of the computing world that uses computers for more basic tasks. Besides Apple did state that the ARM transition will be over a 2 year period.

These keynotes always make me feel like a filthy poor person for not having a job that's worth of appearing in an Apple Keynote.
Perhaps refer to yourself a "knowledge worker" or an "activist", and invest in a wardrobe of ironic paisley button-downs. 🤷‍♂️

Yup,

That tag at the end from the old commercial was a big middle finger to Mac users who need to run some windows workloads. Not sure yet if it' the end of the 'one machine' era, or the end of the mac era.

The new Mx chips look damn sweet, but without a windows option, it's a non starter anytime soon.

You can’t run Parallels on M1 chip for Windows 10? Like ever?

RAM absolutely matters. I'm a developer, and need more than 16 GB RAM to run multiple VM's. I'm also a musician who works with large sample libraries. 32 GB is the absolute minimum needed for these use cases, with 64 GB a much better choice. The old Mini's could do that. The new ones only go to 1/4 of what the old ones could support?!?
You're looking at this wrong.

These chips will outperform the old ones by light years.
