And they broke the Apple store, I can’t check my previous orders

An application requiring 64GB isn’t suddenly going to work with 16GB, the same applies for other values.
Yup. These are definitely replacements for the low end part of the lineup, for people who live 100% in the apple sandbox. Basically they're macs for iphone users. Impressive yes, and a nice start. But there's a lot more work needed to build a true 'power user' machine (edit to change from pro, to avoid starting the who's a pro conversation all over again).

Good: You can do anything on a MacBook Air now. For the same price. Battery life is amazing on these. Your RAM isn't really going to matter with these chips, I don't think some of you get it who are complaining about 16gb of RAM.

Bad: No re-designs. No iMac.
RAM absolutely matters. I'm a developer, and need more than 16 GB RAM to run multiple VM's. I'm also a musician who works with large sample libraries. 32 GB is the absolute minimum needed for these use cases, with 64 GB a much better choice. The old Mini's could do that. The new ones only go to 1/4 of what the old ones could support?!?

You must be very young then. This was a riff off of the "iconic" (and very effective) Mac Vs. PC commercials. For a nerd like you they may not be effective, but to the average idiot they are.
Hmmm, missed the mark there pacha, better reapply at the academy as your investigative skills are about as good as a soft banana.

Agreed. They purposefully avoided comparing the GPU to dGPUs - they aren't ready for the higher-end Pro machines yet

I have always said my Mac was too slow at Machine Learning to make me productive to my employers.

Even with all these performance gain, it still wouldn't gain any foothold. Nvidia would still be the market leader in this segment.

Big sur is coming out Nov 12 yet Final Cut Pro and logic pro X didn't receive an update to be be fully compatible with Big Sur, How is this possible?
I saw Final Cut and Logic with new icons on their website just now on the Macbook Pro 13 inch page but wheres the actual update?
They'll likely update after Big Sur is released.

I am pretty sure the 8-core Ryzen 4800u will still smack around the 4-core M1 MacBook Pro. At the same price or less. More-so when Ryzen gets on 5nm.

Some ML tasks might go faster on the M1, but it is not difficult to compare performance. You just have to do it on an individual app/task-basis.

New (base range) MBP supports only one external display, limited to 16 GB RAM

I'm really hoping the 4 port MBPs will support multiple displays

Unless you’re a frequent upgrader, buying first gen of these seems silly. One would hope cellular & touchscreen* are amongst the features in a redesign.

*Yeah yeah, I’ve never been fussed about touchscreen Macs, but if crossover apps becoming legitimate and worthwhile, touchscreen is surely a no brainer

Well if this was such a bad experience for you Dell's new innovation crap is just a web surf away.
No I'm good, my 2020 MBP with its four USB-C ports and VM-supporting processor are just fine, thanks.
Feel free to block me if my on-point criticisms offend your tender sensibilities. I don't mind.
