Odd how there is a 7 core and 8 core GPU in the air, seems random to have different skews of this machine. Who even knows the performance differences?
Silicon binning. Chips with a bad GPU core don't need to be tossed into the trash and can still be sold in the base Air with only the working 7 GPU cores enabled. The higher-priced Air gets a chip with all 8 GPU's enabled.

So on Thursday? What time would it usually go live? 1PM?

This happens with internal apps every time a new OS is released. All new Apple software pretty much gets released at the same time. Once you update to Bug Sur you see the other app updates. Third party apps release earlier sometimes yet not Apple software.

What does the 16-core neural engine do btw?
Mainly sits around and looks cute, I believe.

So youre saying the new Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro update wont be available for Catalina Users? but youre saying they will be released on Thursday?

i think we stilll can use them for few years. Unless they release xeon replacement.

If Intel was the only player in the market, I wouldn't have felt so much let down with Macbook Air. But the thing is Intel isn't the only player in the town anymore.

Now days You could get a thin & light with a Ryzen 4700U, 16 GB RAMs & 512 GB SSD at around $700. And you can replace the SSD. They also come with one extra slots & user replaceable RAM. Yeah Windows & Build quality can be a letdown for the others, but not for the majority whom Apple is targeting with this. I just hope it performs well.

AMD will be launching CPU's and GPU's in 2021 at 5nm also, so whatever graphs Apple showed today, it will not be the same next year.

Still a $200 upgrade for a 256 GB to a 512 GB SSD on the base models. $400 for 256 GB to 1 TB.
On the models with a 512 GB SSD standard, it's also another $200 for 1 TB.

1 TB SSD's, even high-performance ones, cost well under $200 by themselves nowadays. There is zero excuse for a $200 price to go to 512 GB from 256 GB, or 1 TB from 512 GB.

If Apple's IGPU claim is true then it would be around Tiger Lake 96 EU gpus. Don't forget AMD's coming with Cezanne which will come with RDNA2. A massive improvement over VEGA8 in Renoir.

They're not water resistant, so I hope that they have no leaks. 😆
Not true. These new machines are, in fact, rated IPfreely, indicating that they are designed to withstand brief streams of water lasting up to 15 seconds.

I hope OEMs like Dell & HP will take AMD more seriously this time & won't treat it as a red headed stepchild. I mean Zephyrus Z14 was fine & dandy, but 4900HS would have suited better in something with sleek design like XPS 13.

I think it's pretty self explanatory. Pros that rely on Windows VM's may need a slower transition than the rest of the computing world that uses computers for more basic tasks. Besides Apple did state that the ARM transition will be over a 2 year period.

pros also use the mini and 13" for virtualization. pros also don't use virtualization at all and designers need more screen space. also pros that need windows can just keep their intel machines a bit longer.

I’m interested in why the RAM seems limited to 16gb. I run large orchestral templates and I can just about get by with 64gb for any significant project.

I had my credit card ready, but it looks like it will be a bit longer before I can replace my MacBook Pro......
