Only the 2-port Pro is M1 for now. I’m going to go for the Air.
Yeah, right now I feel like I would be moving backwards going for the M1 13" Pro. Air would be better to test out, but I'll wait to read other reviews.

As much as I would always welcome a new MacMini, giving basically the same performance, specs and upgradeability (=none) with MBA PLUS a fan is nothing to get excited about.if true i rather spend on mac mini last intel version. 16 gb is survive but 32 gb the best for my development. i still using base line 2017 with no hassle but if big project commin' let see
I’m interested in why the RAM seems limited to 16gb. I run large orchestral templates and I can just about get by with 64gb for any significant project.
I had my credit card ready, but it looks like it will be a bit longer before I can replace my MacBook Pro......
using da vinci for simple editing. sorry no idea fcpxNot true, the latest final cut pro x is extremely buggy.
Yes, it looks like the CPU's will be faster than the Intel chips in the specific Macs they replaced. But that doesn't matter when your workload requires more data to be loaded into memory. SSD's are great and fast, but they are nowhere as fast as DRAM.You're looking at this wrong.
These chips will outperform the old ones by light years.
that's not what I'm saying at all, but I can see how you would come to that conclusion. updates will be out right after the new os is out is my point. it's the way it always happens. So youre saying the new Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro update wont be available for Catalina Users? but youre saying they will be released on Thursday?
Not true. These new machines are, in fact, rated IPfreely, indicating that they are designed to withstand brief streams of water lasting up to 15 seconds.
No question this was immediate meme-worthy, I posted this in the iPhone 12 Pre-Order thread... 😂
So you're suggesting that a Pro's current machine is the latest Intel machine and they don't need a new one? And where is any of your proof that Pros don't use VM's? Where did you did get any of this nonsense from?pros also use the mini for virtualization. pros also don't use virtualization at all and designers need more screen space. also pros that need windows can just keep their intel machines a bit longer.
for me i more concern if we cannot compile on intel using xcode. If still can be done on intel chips i rather not paying new m1. Most developer think if ipad has m1 chip they dont need new macbook air ,mac mini or imac. But reality seem odd diff.As much as I would always welcome a new MacMini, giving basically the same performance, specs and upgradeability (=none) with MBA PLUS a fan is nothing to get excited about.
It looks like:
1) Apple will have a hard time scaling performance across the different lines if just one chip is available and manufactured. This might take time. They will have to depend on artificial limits and BTO restrictions in order to differentiate.
2) Apple will really need to keep the prices (relatively) low for the start. A fanless/lighter MBA makes a case for purchase but the others will face strong competitions from MBA, former/Intel models AND x86 PC products.
3) Apple will really need the Mac vs PC commercials running again.

I just retired my old faithful Airport Extreme Base Station about a week ago. Running the Amplify Alien, and I love the diagnostics display.I think the router project for Apple is dead. Netgear is killing with the Orbi right now.

will the new logic pro and final cut updates be available for catalina users as well or just for big sur users?that's not what I'm saying at all, but I can see how you would come to that conclusion. updates will be out right after the new os is out is my point. it's the way it always happens.
Apple users have been trained to overpay.Still a $200 upgrade for a 256 GB to a 512 GB SSD on the base models. $400 for 256 GB to 1 TB.
On the models with a 512 GB SSD standard, it's also another $200 for 1 TB.
1 TB SSD's, even high-performance ones, cost well under $200 by themselves nowadays. There is zero excuse for a $200 price to go to 512 GB from 256 GB, or 1 TB from 512 GB.
Well, I think I was mostly on target, but yeah, maybe shot outside the zone there for a little bit. Thanks but you missed the intent. 😆
Yes, I will, but I’m wondering why the new models were limited to 16gb Ram.Guess you have to wait for the M1 Pro or M1 Pro Max.
i dont use vm but my old macbook 2011 easily choke 16 gb ram on android studio and some apps. For my usage imac 2017 , no vm also and no emulator . Need to connect to the device to reduce ram usage. So you're suggesting that a Pro's current machine is the latest Intel machine and they don't need a new one? Ditto.I just retired my old faithful Airport Extreme Base Station about a week ago. Running the Amplify Alien, and I love the diagnostics display.
I went with the 8/512GB Air to check it out. I'm likely to keep my 13" Intel Pro for a while just in case I need Windows.Yeah, right now I feel like I would be moving backwards going for the M1 13" Pro. Air would be better to test out, but I'll wait to read other reviews.
Well then that's it for me, I won't pay for a macbook pronto be tortured by touchbar, and I need the ability to use two external displays. Maybe it'll work with the lids closed?Seems to be something with the M1 that's limiting the number of displays it can drive: the new MBA and MBP only support 1 external display (used to be two), the new mac mini only supports two displays (used to be three)
I still run a Mac Pro 4,1 on Mojave, upgraded to 128gb ram, oodles of ssd‘s and dual 3.46 xeons giving 12 cores. It’s eleven years old, and has been the best value computer I’ve ever owned......Apple users have been trained to overpay.
Although in fairness, you can't really compare these - I suspect that these aren't real SSDs, they are probably NAND modules and the controller firmware is either in the chip or on the board.
