M1 with 16gb RAM can do, well, literally almost anything anyone needs to do. That's the thing.
Do you have any doubt about new SoC`s coming in ? I do understand why ppl are getting the itch to see the new stuff , as the M1 is now "in everything" , crossing fingers for WWDC.
I don‘t see any option to choose when you’re buying. Must be tied to storage options. I wish it would be clearer.
Was anything said about SoC upgrade options (memory and SSD for the new iMac? I was listening for that and didn't hear anything, other than the base config.
However, it won't surprise me if the SoC upgrade options are the same as for the MBA / MBP / Mac mini.
I honestly have no idea why some people think EVERYONE wants an iPad. The iPad Pro today was amazing but I want a Mac plain and simple. Sorry but iPadOS AIN'T MacOS and neither are the apps the same on each platform. The Mac still offers much more when it comes to productivity.
Traditionally it's part of the configuration options once you're in the buying process.
Since we can't get to that part yet, the option isn't available.
1TB or 2TB options only, it looks like.

Not even close, but for the average user yes. And the average user doesn't need a 4.5K display. They can buy an air + an usb-c display with integrated hub, charging, speakers and even camera+mic if they need for the same as this imac. And that's a portable machine, not one sitting on a desk forever.
Those are the base specs. 16 GB RAM will be an option, as will more storage. Most likely up to 2TB just like the other M1 Macs.
Yup, on the store page which is now up, 128 - 512GB storage gets 8GB. 1 - 2TB storage gets 16 GB.
I dont understand , is 8GB the only option ? or its the baseline ? why do you think its "only" ? i would assume you can upgrade it ....
A common affliction among MacRumors participants is the inability to conceive of different needs/wants/uses than those possessed by the individual posting such opinions about Apple's configurations.
We'll notice that the M1 iMacs are all the 24" models - with 2 thunderbolt ports and 8GB base memory.
Great for a family / kids computer.
Just as the upper-end four-port Macbooks haven't yet transitioned to M1, we see that the upper-end 27" iMacs also haven't yet transitioned to M1.
Those higher end systems - with their 16GB base RAM and upgrades to 32GB (perhaps higher) will come another time.

iMac looks really really nice, but after using Windows 10 for so long I honestly can’t go back to Mac OS.

I like the new iMacs but I'm kinda disappointed that the one that's Red on the back is pink on the front. I wish it was Red front and back. Not too many "masculine-style" options for a man.
Yeah, I'm not too keen on the color of the peripherals either. I might get a Blue one or the Orange in the future, maybe. But not particularly keen on the pink.
Still though, I do like the new form factor.
Thank you for the advice my friend, appreciate it, but I don’t like betas. Honestly I was expecting new iOS 14.5 since the rumors and betas (8 to date) have been out and around for a while, but maybe 8 betas indeed mean that 14.5 is not well-polished and ready to be launched to the world. I was also expecting for Big Sur 11.3 which likely is still not ready.
