Apple's not going to let those binned chips go to waste!

8 CPU/14 GPU is still a heck of a laptop. but the cost of entry's gonna getcha.

I think they look a lot like the aluminum PowerBook G4 and the first Intel MacBook Pros. Sort of like the iMac with colors, what's old is new again - including the prices! Apple has priced themselves out of my home.
really? I mean 2k seems pretty resonable for something that is a true pro device. This is nothing like the 13" Macbooks of old which wern't really pro devices. For a device with this kind of power you always had to spend $2k+. My base model 16" Pro was $2400 less then a year ago and this is gonna blow the doors off of it. Where you expecting it to be 13" pro prices at $1200...that would just be stupid.

No Mac mini. Boo.

Notch doesn't bother me and its great to see the SD card slot back - that was a huge pain to me for my short stint with a post 2015 MBP. Will hold off judgement on these until someone takes one of these apart.

Also just noticed the power adapter implementation, I like this solution.
They may decide to keep these chips out of Mac Minis, just to boost sales of the “pro” product lines.

you guys need to be prepared for the power usage on the high end macbooks. this isn't gonna be like the M1 chip. there is an 140W power adapter. there are 32 GPU cores (4x more than the m1 chip). i am pretty sure that under heavy workloads, this thing is gonna be HOT and possibly loud

I feel like they are looking to differentiate the MBP from the Air. Good move; having both around the same price range was ridiculous. I am not a fan of the bulkier design, but I understand with the addition of ports. The next iteration will be lighter in most cases IMO.

I did pick up a pair of AP3, precisely what I was waiting for. Cheers, all!

I got a few angry reactions to my posts in here lol.

All jokes aside. On paper I think this is the best MacBook Pro event in YEARS. I was actually expecting a slightly higher entry point on the 16” model so I’m not complaining there.

The notch will always be a point of conversation. I think it’s fine on the laptops, it’s on the iPhone that I take issue with due to its smaller form factor.

Face it. We’ll never be happy. You’ll be better acknowledging it.

M1 Max / 64 GB prices:

16"
$3899 with 1 TB
$4299 with 2 TB
$4899 with 4 TB
$6099 with 8 TB

Subtract $400 for 32 GB
Subtract $200 for 14"

i only want to see this ..
  • 140W USB-C Power Adapter. WTF ?
Plus:
  • USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable
...so goodbye to the one bad thing about MagSafe - non-replaceable proprietary power cable and having to carry a second charger for your other devices.

Shame about the notch.

It looks like the keyboard can now be replaced without replacing the entire top cover?!?
Don’t be silly now 😆

Apple always figures out a way to make things more difficult than it needs to be. The ifixit tear down will be interesting.

You mean the notch that is going to be in a useless menu bar 99% of the time and the other 1% going to disappear because the screen has a 16:10 ratio...

I mean, I get you don't like it, but I'd take a notch over more bezel. All this does is essentially allow the touchbar to disappear into useless space.
This brutal interference on the UI is something I will not accept. Sorry, but as a professional designer and a professional user I say a big fat NO.

So where the Hell is the new Mac Mini? They could easily have released it today. Instead, I have to wait for the replacement of my Intel version which was sent back and refunded a year ago because the Intel chip was overheating. I still have money, but nothing to replace it with, as the M1 can't do the job. Thanks Apple.
I wouldn’t hold my breath on these chips in a Mac Mini. Need to upsell you to the pro products.
