That's irrelevant, prices are too steep, especially since this is still a "base" model, 2 grand for a Base 14" MBP is silly, and that's just the base, see the BTO prices, insanity.

Performance is irrelevant to the price? You're living in a fantasy world. And the "base" model still outperforms his 2015 MBP I'm sure. I find it hilarious that people want pro products for non-pro prices. Doesn't work that way. You get what you pay for. If you still want a great laptop for less money, then get a 13" MBP or the MBA.

are they actually just hiding the notch or does the full screen mode automatically "turn off" the top pixels? or maybe there is an option in the settings to outright turn off the top pixels all the time. i'm hoping for this. with mini-led, you probaly wouldn't tell the difference unless if you intentionally try to see the blacks

Seeing that they ADDED a totally unnecessary notch on the laptop- is proof positive that the notch on the iPhone will be here forever.

Jeeze, the website kept crashing up and down. Traded in my 2019 16'', got the 16'' M1 Pro (10/16/16) & 1TB storage. Came out to $1290 after trade in and education discount. Very pleased with that!

There will be something for the mini eventually, but the idea that upselling from a headless desktop to a laptop…that’s an interesting take…
Yeah, I mean, I bought the (almost) top-end configuration of MBP in 2019, but it’s just been sitting in clamshell mode on my desk since Covid. I was looking to sell it and replace it with a Mac Mini… but I think Apple foresaw people like me and said “What if we make them upgrade to another MacBook Pro instead?”

Makes sense. I’m not going to do it personally, for a year or so, but I’m sure many people in my position WILL buy it, just to use it as a desktop machine.

it's only reasonably priced compared to previous macbooks. the cost to upgrade the SSD/RAM still costs the apple premium, and the GPU performance still does not outclass the performance out of the RTX 3080. sure, it'll be more power efficient, but i doubt that it'll be that good due to the 140W adapter and the probability that this chip will run HOT and LOUD underload

Of course upgraded SSD/RAM costs more. If you need it, simply pay for it. If you don't, save some money. Just as it has always been.

So just ordered two (by mistake*) 14" Space Grey with 8/14 cores and 16/512 RAM/storage. Hyped for 10/26!

* - And yes, I will cancel one of them ASAP.

Personally I don't need all the performance. Will stick with my 13 inch 2016 TB until the new macbook air comes out. I think THAT will be the best option for most people who dont edit 3D 8K videos i dolby atmos for a living. Also the design is ugly.

Wow... shipping in December???

It was still October when I tried right after the store opened. Sadly I didn't manage to get through at first and by the time I did it was already shipping towards the end of November...

There is crazy demand apparently.

The binned-chip base model M1 PRO at $1999 (less for education) is likely twice as fast as the best M1

Macs cost more. Anyone who owns Apple stuff knows that and I know that there are old heads in here who have owned Apple products for 30 years or more.

I hate when apple does this order start today and you have to rush and can't think. Not terrible store was slow to respond.

Sir/Maam, Apple had to ADD the notch now so that when they REMOVE it in a few years time, it will be a bigger deal. Embedded camera etc. under the display

You don't get the point, for years prices stayed the same, since about 2015/2016 prices have gone up considerably, just look at the prices of Macbooks in the decade before, faster machines for the same money, again, Apple raised prices considerably, 15" MBP were about $500 cheaper for a loooonnnngggg time.
