I wouldn’t hold my breath on these chips in a Mac Mini. Need to upsell you to the pro products.
There will be something for the mini eventually, but the idea that upselling from a headless desktop to a laptop…that’s an interesting take…

Sigh. Would it hurt them that much to put the MBP components inside a Mac Mini Pro? I wanna go desktop, as I never unplugged my MBP 15”, I used it as a desktop until it was like a damn calzone from a swollen battery. The current M1 mini is great in many ways but has too few ports, and the GPU struggles to handle a 4K screen (my 7 year old MBP 15” does it better, oddly).

i really hope that apple was comparing the 32 GPU core to the RTX 3080 (mobile). they said top of the line GPU, right? the graph showed that the 3080 was approximately 10? percent faster than the 32 GPU core. hopefully this holds true.

That's irrelevant, prices are too steep, especially since this is still a "base" model, 2 grand for a Base 14" MBP is silly, and that's just the base, see the BTO prices, insanity.

They're actually very well-priced. Want greater performance? Easy...simply pay for it. Don't need the higher performance, save some money. Easy.

Sill upset with Apple? Buy Sanyo! Easy as well!

Was considering a MacBook air with 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage, but the 14 inch base model is a better deal, IMO.

I highly doubt it will be RTX 3080 levels, that means AMD, Intel and NVIDIA are all facing difficulties

I guess I can thank all the folks on team "Never Notch" for my ability to sneak in and get a base 14 today. I guess with the lack of interest due to the notch, which apparently "ruins everything", ordering for any of these models shouldn't be difficult at all going forward.

  • USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable
...so goodbye to the one bad thing about MagSafe - non-replaceable proprietary power cable and having to carry a second charger for your other devices.

Shame about the notch.
I don’t understand the notch hate. It gives the user more screen real estate that used to be wasted on a massive bezel.

we wanted it, but that's not Apple's way. by introducing the new M1 chips piecemeal, they get you to buy more products instead of just one.
It’s smart. There could even be supply chain issues that even supply chain master Tim Cook can’t overcome at the moment.

macbooks > minis in terms of priority on their end.

The SSD prices would be more tolerable if they would stripe across SSDs, thus creating another factor-of-2 (or 4) in bandwidth beyond the inherent increase in the speed of each interface.

it's only reasonably priced compared to previous macbooks. the cost to upgrade the SSD/RAM still costs the apple premium, and the GPU performance still does not outclass the performance out of the RTX 3080. sure, it'll be more power efficient, but i doubt that it'll be that good due to the 140W adapter and the probability that this chip will run HOT and LOUD underload
