I wouldn't mind them stuffing these pros with overpriced fancy stuff like the liquid whatever display and like, if their non-graphics intensive line weren't handicapped by the 16 GB ram and only one external display limit. But it is, so it looks like they simply gave up the IT and scientific communities. Let's hope they'll correct these with M2.

They would have needed some games for that...

By the way, the rumours were true: Apple has hidden the notch on every single marketing image for the new MBPs on their website save for one, with the result that every application shown on the pictures lacks the menu bar.
True, but they could have tested a few of them on Rosetta/native

is it just me or did anyone notice that the notch is hidden when playing full screen content.
I believe when full content is shown, the sides to the left and right of the notch become black and hence can only be used to show status and menus in non-full screen mode.

So where the Hell is the new Mac Mini? They could easily have released it today. Instead, I have to wait for the replacement of my Intel version which was sent back and refunded a year ago because the Intel chip was overheating. I still have money, but nothing to replace it with, as the M1 can't do the job. Thanks Apple.

So they're losing one USB-C port, but it's one you'd probably be using for power, and there's MagSafe now.

yeah, now when I have to charge feom the right I loose ports on the right. Also if I need tk connect to a screen from the left, I can use the usb-c port and leave the hdmi empty. Nevermind a non standard charger, that as soon as it breaks wont use anymore.

I was hoping we would get to retain the 4 ports in addition to an sd card reader and hdmi. After 5 years od using an usb-c only mac this seems like a step back. Way less versatile.

the worst is the magsafe, propetary chargers are not a sustainable solution.

no discrete gpu also. I am worried and sad with this update. Am I now the one saying I’ll stick woth my 2016 until they come back to their senses? Is this how the cycle goes?

i get that this thing has mini-led and is extremely fast, but the price is adding up very quickly. the $2000 14in notchbook has 8 core CPU and 14 core GPU. you need to spend $2400 to get the 10core/16core m1 pro
and what does this even mean to go up a couple cores? do we really know?

I'm tempted to trade up from my Intel MBP to a "Notchbook Pro", but I need some stuff quantified first.

You have inside knowledge at Apple?

Just ordered the base 14 inch in Silver. Trading in my 2020 13 inch back to Apple. $100 a month for 12 months with the Apple Card doesn't seem like that bad of a deal.

Literally stopped watching after the notch presented. No hope.
You mean the notch that is going to be in a useless menu bar 99% of the time and the other 1% going to disappear because the screen has a 16:10 ratio...

I mean, I get you don't like it, but I'd take a notch over more bezel. All this does is essentially allow the touchbar to disappear into useless space.

Nice! Like I said would be the case, the notch just goes in the currently unused portions of the menu bar. And they pointed out you can hardly see it in dark mode. I bet we'll get a new beta of Xcode & monterey with code to tell us where it is and how big it is and how to access the "extended" screen space. And they added the same "safeArea" layout guides in macOS 11, so you can still back deploy working code that respects the notch margins back to big sur.

Is the basis of looking at the installed RAM different with unified memory? For general use I'd assumed I would need 16Gb nowadays, but maybe 8 is fine?

M1 Pro 14" ordered for Tuesday delivery!! Time to pass down the 2013 13" Air and retire the 2012 iMac to just the basics. Price was a bit steeper than imagined, but hoping to get the same kind of life out of this machine.

PUMPED.

... and for good measure ... #notch
