Just got the new Siri Remote today and when using the YouTube app, you used to be able to skip ahead 15 seconds or so by pressing a certain area of the trackpad and no controls came up on screen, which was nice. Now I can't seem to replicate that feature with the new remote, it skips ahead the 15 seconds but it pauses the video and the controls come up on screen...that's not cute.
It is supposed to be a left or right tap on the click wheel. That said, YouTube may have broke it (and perhaps sell it back as a premium-only feature)

Applying that same logic no one needs the U1 chip in anything. It is a convenience and nothing more.

It does seem absolutely asinine when Apple has expanded Find My to third party devices and released AirTags yet they somehow overlooked the usefulness of having the remote be findable. Apple is all about the ecosystem and this would have been another way to reinforce their ecosystem to the customer.

I can’t tell you the number of times my kid loses things in the house. We were without the remote for 1 TV for the better part of a month before we found it.

You are talking about your kids but adults aren’t any different. I remember when I was a kid I used to find our remote and cordless phone in the weirdest of places. Fridge, shoe rack, safe etc. And it was always my mother.

Imagine how much they paid the PR consultant to come up with this statement.

Nah, this is the sort of thing that slips out of Phil the Shill's mouth when he forgets to take his meds. It takes a lot of "courage" to say "can't innovate my ass" on a product that hasn't been updated in 4 years and it about to be left another 5 without another update.

I don’t care to have it. I don’t lose remotes. They have a dedicated place to go. Do people really want it and willing to pay 30$ more for a remote. So basically 100$? I don’t.
those who do lose remotes a lot of the time because of kids need to get some kind of tray or basket for your coffee table that has all the remotes. Reteach your kids to put things away. You’ll be ok.

i live in a large loft where you can watch tv from many areas not just directly in front of the tv. you can also use the remote for more than watching tv, like listening to a podcast or music, which you can do from the bathroom or any corner in the house. many times i watch tv while i cook or clean and the remote moves with me everywhere in the house and at some point i will set it down somewhere i forgot.

i sometimes take the remote up to my desk on the second floor where i can see the tv from my stool. imagine not living in a regular apartment.

Use your iPhone appletv remote and carry that around instead? then You can use Siri to find it by asking “hey siri where are you?”.

I can see people complaining about losing the remote going old school bank pen style, where you had a chain attached to it so people/kids wouldn’t walk off with it. :)

I've owned Apple TVs since the start. I've never lost the remove more than 10 seconds of searching. Why is it anywhere other than right next to the couch?
Right. I've only misplaced mine a few times by doing something else laying the remote down then forgetting where I laid it down at. I just have to retrace my steps and bam! there it is. Otherwise it stays on a pedestal next to the recliner.

and I treat my keys and wallet the same way yet everyone seems to suddenly need airtags

I don't mean to be rude but it's a dumb and comical statement. Apple may make great products but they usually say things like we are all sheep. The only likable person at Apple is Craig Federighi and maybe John Ternus which is coincidentally only two respectable engineer executives at Apple while the rest is all marketing, strategy, policy that screw you up

People: you don’t need Find My on your Apple TV remote because it generally never leaves whatever room your TV is in. Anything with an Air Tag is probably leaving your house. Are you so inept that you can’t keep track of an item within one room of your own home? Do you need Find My for your toilet paper too?

With the changes we've made to the Siri Remote - including making it a bit thicker so it won't fall in your couch cushions as much
Then it’s a bit ironic that there’s a big ol’ TV remote shown in that AirTag couch ad.
