It really is a neglect on Apple's part. They had the time to put in U1 chip in the Apple Watch (which is cringy since it's always on your wrist), and $29 Airtag, but not the $59 Siri Remote.

A simply bad excuse. Next Siri Remote could be having Find My support and Apple would eat their own words.

Everyone complaining should know Apple by now. They probably purposely left that feature off. So that next year they will have an updated Siri Apple TV remote. With a feature that includes a way to find it. If it is lost. Forcing everyone to shell out more money on a new remote next year. Same thing they do with iPhones and iPad etc. Hold a feature or two out. So the newer model the following year includes that feature.🤷‍♂️

Apple has been promoting the new M1 iMac, M1 iPad Pro, and second-generation Apple TV 4K following their announcements, and Apple's vice president of product marketing for home and audio Tim Twerdahl today did an interview with MobileSyrup to discuss the revamped Apple TV 4K and the updated Siri Remote.

Prior to the release of the new Apple TV 4K, there were rumors that the updated remote would include Find My functionality, which didn't happen. Twerdahl said that it was not a priority because the Siri Remote is thicker and won't get lost as easily. He said that Apple shifted to a new remote design because Apple is always aiming to deliver "richer experiences to people at home," and the kinds of content and how people are getting Apple TVs has changed. In some cases, the Apple TV is being used as a total cable box replacement, necessitating new remote functionality like a mute button. The new Siri Remote ditches the gyroscope and accelerometer that were included in prior versions, so the remote no longer serves as a game controller. There was a time that Apple required all Apple TV games to support the Siri Remote, but there's been a major change in thinking at Apple.

Twerdahl says that Apple believes that if you want to play a game, "a dedicated game controller is the best experience."

Twerdahl also further discussed the design of the remote, gaming on the Apple TV, and he highlighted eARC and the option to have other sources connected to the TV use Apple TV to output to HomePods, with his full interview available over at MobileSyrup.

I’d rather they’d made it smaller and include the U1 chip because this one is huge and a visual mess compared the old one. Steve wouldn’t have approved.

I've owned Apple TVs since the start. I've never lost the remove more than 10 seconds of searching. Why is it anywhere other than right next to the couch?
Because I have the baby in my hands and the roommate then walk off somewhere.... But I'm ok with them not including it.. Plus you can't share items yet in Find My...

I don’t even care “that” much that it doesn’t include find my (despite it being odd), but I’d love to meaningfully contribute to this discussion by saying this is the dumbest response they couldn’t ever come up with. You should’ve just stayed silent, Apple. I mean really.

when apple messes up a design like they did the remote, they wait a long time to fix it or else it would be like admitting they made a poorly designed product.
I honestly think they're finally crawling out from under the yoke of Jony Ive, who also had the attitude that Jobs had of "Don't listen to what the customers want, we'll tell them what they want". It's a slow process, but at least they're coming out of that fog.

Real simple - Apple needs to bake the U1 logic into all of their silicon going forward. (and include it on the sysbrd of all components until they do). People want to be able to find all of their Apple s**t.

3rd party headphones already have this in them, so the AP3's damn well better.

Disappointing that they didn't have that vision before they did this (the M1 actually should have had it in there, just not announced until the network was ready).

Seriously…… how…. How are you all losing your remotes???

My daughter has been using our Apple TV’s (3 of them) since she was 5. Never lost one.
Because the majority of this forum is made up of impressively terrible humans who live in clutter and have a penchant for over exaggerating their incredibly mundane lifestyles. Also, managing to play the victim in any scenario is trending these days.
