again...stick to the subject...which was Samsung sells more phones than anyone globally.

Seems like the thread subject is Apple is expected to lead in phones with 5g. Global smartphones shipments and what is the best selling model is a part of that.

Exactly. And Apple being third, the XR is the best selling smartphone on the planet. Even though the other loss leaders from Samsung are way less expensive than the XR.

Yeah! And they've held that position for a LONG time!

Every quarter we get a report that says Samsung sells more phones than anyone else. We've gotten a similar report every 3 months for almost a decade.

You are correct... Samsung sells more phones globally than anyone else!

Now what?

What are you doing with this information?

You keep posting that chart over and over... I'm surprised the mods haven't removed them.

I don't know what point you're trying to make.

Gartner made the point when they published the chart in the first place.

Unless you're trying to take credit for Gartner's reporting... I'm not sure why you keep posting their chart.

Did you read the poster i was replying to? He tries to deflect and change the subject with his replies.

My post was agreeing with another poster that samsung sell more phones than anyone else.
That was all i was posting. He keeps trying to diminish that data so i have to keep posting it for him to stay on subject.
But I can see how it is getting a bit tiresome :)

Yes I did read ALL the exchanges between you and the other poster.

Very tiresome, indeed.

We all have seen these charts every 3 months for a long time. No one should ever question whether Samsung sells more phones globally than anyone else. They do. Congratulations.

You don't need to continually back up another poster saying that. It's written in black and white in the charts.

I'll say it one last time... Samsung sells more phones globally than anyone else...

But I don't know what any of this has to do with 5G phones... which is the topic of the article. :p

You are correct :). I think we can both agree that any phone with 5G will not see 5G speeds but in very limited situations.
5G just hasn't been built out enough yet.

Yes, we all know Samsung sells more phones. But the surprise we didn’t know in all that data was about the xr. I don’t even know how global market share breakdown is relevant to 5g, except some analyst predictions about global 5g market share.

Oh, I’ve always agreed that Samsung sells a boat load of inexpensive phones with retail prices 5 times(or thereabouts) less than the xr, the worlds most popular phone.
lol...its no surprise their cheapest phone is the world most popular model...they still come up short with declining sales..... smh....

Yep, but not declining revenue. $65B last quarter. $85B estimated next quarter.
:p:...there it is folks..... Just as described! After losing the sales argument...he changes the focus to revenue! I was just about to take bets on how long it would take him to throw that in the mix! Hilarious :D

Exactly.

And even if you're in a 5G community... will it work indoors?

I remember when Verizon and AT&T invited reviewers to the first 5G rollout cities... but all they could do is stand on the street corner, outdoors within sight of the antenna, doing speedtests.

If there was a tree between you and the antenna... you lose your 5G signal. And it certainly doesn't go through glass or walls, either.

So I have no idea how this is supposed to scale beyond a few blocks downtown.

Granted... Verizon and AT&T are using high-frequency mmWave technology for their 5G that has these distance and penetration limitations.

Perhaps T-Mobile and their 600MHz 5G will be better. Who knows.

But I read an article that said even if you have a 5G phone in a 5G area... you'll probably remain on 4G most, if not all, of the time.

So personally... I'm not too concerned about my next phone having 5G. Or maybe the next phone after that.

Well you may have stumbled on maybe the real reason. The cell phone tower speeds are getting fast enough that it may be faster to use the tower's microwaves than the fiber optic cables below them. As long as the towers have a clear line of sight your cell phone call may never hit the ground. Although I don't know about rain, snow, and fog blocking the signal. Hopefully if this is true everyone will have better speeds but knowing how cell companies work they will only allow the new phones to access these faster speed. Just a thought!

While 5G is a great idea. I can't see Telstra, Optus and Vodafone having 5G across all of our capital cities' suburbs by the time this launches in September. I mean here in Melbourne, with Telstra it's only in the CBD and out near the Airport.
Telstra is scheduled to deploy 5G nationwide in all cities and major regional centres as well as “high demand” areas (highways?) by the end of 2020.

Wont be finished by September but within a couple months of that it should be. Assuming they stick to the schedule of course. Apple might slip on their schedule and delay 5G by another year.

4G nodes are high up on a tower and they reach a few square miles... blanketing a huge area.
Where I work, we have an LTE tower almost next door. Outside in the car park, fast 80mbps. Step into the building, one bar of reception and can barely send an SMS - forget about phone calls or video.

Sure 5G is worse, but 4G is definitely not perfect. Thick walls for a large building block both of them. Both require indoor cell towers to work well.

4G isn’t going away either - 5G is being added to the towers without removing 4G.
