I’ve been using iPads since the 2, but I would never pay a significant price increase for an iPad unless it can run MacOS, has better battery life than my 13” M1, and comes with more RAM or SSD. I suspect the prince increase wont be that drastic, MiniLED only added $100 after all.

I have a Galaxy Tab S9 and for tablets OLED seems the way to go as the viewing angle is ideal. Regular LED displays (mini and probably micro) have a very slight shift at large angles. It's slight but it's there. Things have come a long way though.
OLED also has slight color shift at an angle. I use an OLED Tab S6, and you also have it on iPhones.

Yeah, no, I don’t believe the guesses that the OLED iPad Pros will start at $1500. Remember when MR published the 15” Air could cost between $1399-$1799?

Yeah, I’ll wait until we get more reliable information. If the 11” OLED iPad Pro really does start at $1500 then I guess my days of using iPads instead of MacBooks will be over. At that point I’ll just buy an upgraded MBA to replace my portable.

Such a shame, I’ve loved not owning a laptop and just using an iPad, but this would make it too expensive to continue.

Going from $800 to $1500 just because of OLED would be quite a sticker shock. Makes the M2 version look more attractive.
Yeah, which is why I don't really buy this rumor. Sure, the price will undoubtedly increase, but almost DOUBLE in a single generation? That seems really dubious. More likely it starts around 1k.

Quick math say -20% sales are balanced by +25% unit price. But this is just the device buying cost, reduced sales also mean reduced paid content x Apple tax. Guess we're in for a treat pricewise^^

It means the 13 inch iPad Pro is going to be super expensive.

Makes sense. With the Air 12.9” coming, a larger portion of previous Pro 12.9” users will likely move to the Air.

This. The 12.9 Air is going to put a big iPad within reach of more people. Most people don’t need certain features of the Pros. The Pro is marketed for a different consumer just like MacBook Pros.

There may be downsides. Of course I'm no expert so, and people may disagree. I'm happy with it.
This is probably what ill do, I want OLED but not at £1000+

I like the look of the Ultra tab 9 and it's always on sale for well under £1000, I only use it for entertainment anyway so Android 14 is fine for my use.

Comes with 120hz, 14.4" OLED, HDR10+, Atmos, landscape front camera and S-Pen.

I'll wait for the march event regardless.

I would suspect iPad OS will see a pretty substantial overhaul - there was almost too much backlash this last time... We might actually see a more "MacOS" type interface... Apple can do it right.
I hope so too.

But will this iPad OS be split into Pro and non-Pro tiers, ie. you need the 2024 Pro to run the updated iPadOS? 🤷🏻‍♂️

There may be a color shift but I'm talking about total brightness. It dims just slightly. OLED doesn't seem to do that.

But this is such a minor thing (or not). Years ago it was so bad as to be unusable, as most of you remember. Then IPS, then OLED. Not sure if mini LED helps an IPS with this at all.

Id say an iPad will loss about 10% nits at extreme angles. Maybe even more.

and we will see a 14"+ iPad Pro...

It does on the OLED iPhone I’m presently typing on. It might be less than on the average LCD, but both have it.

But but but they're using a new super duper OLED that makes it even BRIGHTER!!!omfg wow

Now give us $1500!!! for the same basic experience on iPadOS but for the price of a MacBook Pro.

Sorry but I think Apple leaked those increases and now weeks later after the outrage and mocking, they're going to lower orders instead of price. 😆

Every week Apple become more and more out of touch with their actual customers as they court china, Russia and trust fund kids from Connecticut.
I think Apple products are fast becoming something only the Davos crowd can afford.
And it seems Tim Cook is just A-OK with that.

Sad.

If those prices are true then the M2s are going to be very popular! I want a 12.9 this year but not for that price...

Gaming is by far one of the few areas that has been pushing M1 to its limits, both in terms of the thermal constraints and performance. You would be surprised if I say M1 on iPad Pro cannot sustain peak performance for very long before being forced to downclock to keep thermal under control.

Unless M3 makes massive improvements, I don’t find it attractive to upgrade.
My advice would just be: buy a proper gaming device. An iPad Pro should have a different target than healthy game freaks.

Maybe true, but it I know more likely that a less premium device will take away market share, e.g. updated iPad Air 12.9”.
