OLED is cool but is it really going to be worth 1,500 or 1,800?
OLED with mini-LED's performance will cost that money. But who really use OLED for professional uses? Even now, LCD based are still major source for professionals.

Come at me but even M1 is still overkill and not taken advantage simply due to restrictions by iPadOS. You can even argue how "sustainable" Apple actually is, releasing a new tablet "just because".

It's not even meant in a bad way, I guess I am just saying an iPad from 3 (?) years ago is still running perfectly, which is actually great!

Heck even my A14 iPad Air 4 is still very snappy.

The only thing that might require change is the battery as it doesn't hold the charge for as long.

But what is more sustainable, having people buy a new tablet or a new battery?

Watch they will surprise us by putting some kind of version of macOS on it…🤭

These are supposed to come out in Q2 at the latest and another iPadOS isn’t going to be released until the Fall.

Same iPad I have! Don’t notice a difference in terms of speed when I compare it to my new iPhone 15

Well, given the steep inflation for groceries and other necessities plus the major price bump for the OLED panel iPads, no wonder why Apple is keeping expectations for the next iPad Pros lower. Apple should have kept the mini-LED panel and did other upgrades like an improved rear camera for the next iPad Pro models.

This can't be true. Increase from $800 to $1500 is not possible for an oled screen. You can buy a brand new OLED laptop for less than $700.

How can they justify such a price? Adding MacOS to it?

$1,500 for the base 11”?! Nah. Mad.

You’ll be talking $1,800-2,000 for decent storage and cellular…

Bet they hike the iPad Air price too!

Not the best way to revive a flagging product category.

And nah, OLED is a mature technology, it doesn’t cost much and doesn’t warrant those hikes

Well this pretty much confirms the rumoured large price increases, makes the iPad Pro more of a joke. The Mini is the only one to get I think as it knows what it is and doesn’t have a desktop class processor gimped by software in it, costing more then a MacBook Air like these new ipad Pros possibly will.

Everyone said they wouldn't pay $1500 for a phone as well. I'm sure these prices are off, but an increase for M3 and OLED is coming.
The only reason I “pay” that much for a phone is because the price is split over 24 months interest free, and it is the most used device I own. If I actually had to pay upfront I wouldn’t replace my phone each year even though I could afford to. I’m still on my 2018 iPad and really have no interest in replacing it.

Agree, I am attached to my phone but rarely pick up the iPad.

What iPad do you have from 2018? That has lasted long.

They keep making the iPads faster, but with the limitation of iPadOS, I just don't see the appeal. The M1 is more than enough speed for what they do. You're better off just getting a MBA at the price points these iPads are gonna sell.
This is such a tired argument. There’s like a million iPad OS apps that do not exist on the Mac. Everything content consumption, like YouTube, to name just a few. All my Mac friends say “just watch YouTube in a browser, it works great.” By that logic you could delete every third party app from your phone. Do your online banking in a browser, social media in a browser, etc. Nobody would do that because native apps are far superior. Once you attach the Magic Keyboard to the iPad it changes everything, becoming more like a computer, but with touch support, better UI like slide-over for my texts and floating video, and a far superior application catalog. When I show people my workflow on the iPad, their heads explode, and my Macs (Studio and 14 MBP) can’t do any of that stuff, so they rarely get used. Oh and by the way the M2 in my iPad Pro has trouble keeping up with my trading app, thinkorswim (another app that is far superior to the 15 year old Java based desktop version) – scrolling my list of 1,000 positions is choppy with all the columns of data updating in real time. Give me more CPU/GPU power in the next model, I can’t wait!

I have the 2018 12.9 pro. When they released the Magic Keyboard in 2020 I bought it instead of getting the 2020 M1 iPad. I hardly use my iPad either. I can’t even justify replacing it once it does eventually die, especially at Apples prices.

I’m another one who doubts the size of the rumored price increases for the iPad Pros. Remember how much more expensive the iPhone Pros were supposed to be? There was an increase - but not nearly as much as the rumors were saying.

Honestly, I think this is all coming from Apple. Plant rumors of sky-high prices, introduce the product with a moderate price hike and, instead of anger and complaints, you get sighs of relief and a customer base primed to spend.

Nonetheless, I personally won’t buy anything beyond the Air. It’s just not necessary.

And this is exactly why Microsoft have just overtaken Apple as the most valuable company.

Apple are testing the waters to see if their customers will bite. I am not biting, personally.

I love when people speak in absolutes as if they were god tier experts. “And this is exactly why Microsoft have just overtaken apple as the most valuable company.”

So this exact reason is why apple and Microsoft have been shuffling back and forth (generally with apple in the lead) for years, pre and post covid??

And for such a statement, you would at least assume it to be true. But at the current moment (1230EST) APPL is 3.025bn vs MSFT at 3.012.

What a short lived victory for such a definitive statement on defeat and decline 🙄😂

Couldn’t have anything to do with apples product assortment and segmentation that allows for one category or product to cannibalize another without too much internal concern.

Go figure, launching a brand new OLED iPad rumored for years is going to launch with lower sales when paired with a brand new, comparatively affordable, larger iPad Air.

Another reason is because carriers locked in a few customers who get them under contract for 36 mandatory months and unlike cellphones you can’t upgrade at all unless it’s paid off, and with these insane prices that cost more than a laptop, Those payments, don’t pay them off as faster.

Wonder where getting their research to think can’t sell as many. Price or specifically the 12.9 model size. Maybe wait and see orders after launch.

When was the last time you tried a Samsung tablet? Last October, I purchased a new iPad Pro I thought I would use for digital design, sculpting, and as a Wacom replacement. I was sorely disappointed with the limitations and oddities of the OS, especially when connected to an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard. I felt like I was constantly fighting trying to remember odd gestures, arrange windows the way I wanted them, and even putting the cursor where I wanted it. The OS feels like Apple wanted to constrain the user at every turn. I returned the iPad and picked up a Galaxy Tab S9. I'm not an Android fan, but the experience was the complete opposite. I feel like I'm using MY device the way I want to use it. No more goofy gestures, weird multi-window experience, or strange cursor behavior (among many other things). The iPad is a great device for watching Youtube and other streaming services, but it's simply a large iPhone.
Android for tablets received a massive overhaul in recent years but many on here and the tech media don't want to hear it because it might upset them to know iPadOS is actually awful in comparison unless you're just watching something.

It's quite different from Android 14 on phones were as iPadOS is literally the same as iOS with split screen added on.

Apple really need iPadOS 18 to set up if they want to justify price increases on a glorified iPod touch.

Going from $800 to $1500 just because of OLED would be quite a sticker shock. Makes the M2 version look more attractive.
I paid less for a 55 inch oled tv ..
OLED is cool but is it really going to be worth 1,500 or 1,800?
OLED like NAND storage is not that expensive but that doesn't stop Apple from charging an arm and a leg because why not.

Imagine that… In an economy where everything is 30% more than it was 3 years ago, people aren't willing to spend ridiculous amounts of money for something that basically amounts to a toy. No serious work is done on iPads.
Another one not knowing what is he speaking about. In aviation and most of military industry everything is on ipad

Not a bad idea at all.

Don’t be so sure about that - particularly if privacy and security are important to you. I would never do my banking on a mobile platform. It can wait until I get home. Also, social media — and many other — apps get into everything. They read your contacts, email, text messages, browsing history and more.

That is true. The virtual keyboards in iPads and iPhones are not very good - and still can’t quite keep up with one’s typing.

Don’t even start. I owned several and Android is a joke on anything else than a phone where you use WhatsApp… no one in his mind would really on Android to work

If the price increase rumours play out to be true then I can believe it. An almost 100% price increase for screen tech which, to the average user, won’t be noticeably better than the current micro LED stuff - or at least not enough to justify that much more £££.

But just imagine if they actually addressed a number of the OS complaints instead and made the iPad Pro an actual notebook alternative… imagine how many more they’d sell then.

Superior OS is in the eye of the beholder. :)
For desktop-like productivity workflows, the Galaxy Tab line is far better suited than iPads. When it comes to content consumption, they're equal. But on content creation, the iPad has the clear advantage.
For “desktop like productivity “ you use a proper notebook or a MacBook, not a joke running Android

Yeah, sorry - I'd never pay that much for an iPad.

Pretty obvious what is going on here - the growth has slowed; so they need to mark up the product for higher margins. Apparently they think the pro consumer won't mind. Maybe that's the case; but I will use a 60hz screen over a 120 any day to save that kind of money on something that functions just as well as a model or two below it.
