Yeah, sorry - I'd never pay that much for an iPad.

Pretty obvious what is going on here - the growth has slowed; so they need to mark up the product for higher margins. Apparently they think the pro consumer won't mind. Maybe that's the case; but I will use a 60hz screen over a 120 any day to save that kind of money on something that functions just as well as a model or two below it.
Ya, seems like trying to reset market price if increase true. Until enough Apple users vote with their wallets then Apple will continue to do what pleases.

It does on the OLED iPhone I’m presently typing on. It might be less than on the average LCD, but both have it.
Yes there's a little, but not as much. Neither is bad in any way of course, so it's a minor thing. Just saying.

I would guess the iPad loses about 10% to 20% (perceived) nits at extreme angles, whereas the OLED is more like half that. THere's no doubt the OLED is better at this, that's the point, and may even be one of the reasons they are switching, a tablet being what it does. Or maybe not. More like money? Ha ha.

So I am probably going to buy one. I have only purchased 1 iPad since it launched which was the original. I worked at VZW for 20 years and then they first began selling it (before the iPhone which was a test of sorts on finally selling Apple products) we got a steal of a price on it so I made the purchase. Ever since then I had every new iPad (through work) since I helped launched their products for the company. I left after almost 21 years and was only left with my OG iPad which still works. I do buy a new iPhone every 2-3 years but it is probably time I get a new iPad lol.

They keep making the iPads faster, but with the limitation of iPadOS, I just don't see the appeal. The M1 is more than enough speed for what they do. You're better off just getting a MBA at the price points these iPads are gonna sell.
Speak for yourself. When you have multiple apps open in stage manager and switching between spaces even the M1 starts choking after prolonged use.

For “desktop like productivity “ you use a proper notebook or a MacBook, not a joke running Android
😅
Sure, anybody can be productive with a "proper notebook" (whatever that is). For the rest of us, we like the flexibility to accomplish tasks with a variety of tools.

"People who say it can't be done should not interrupt those who are doing it." ;)

Heck even my A14 iPad Air 4 is still very snappy.

The only thing that might require change is the battery as it doesn't hold the charge for as long.

But what is more sustainable, having people buy a new tablet or a new battery?
ipad OS doesnt have battery health feature so they must what to push users towards new purchase.

Come at me but even M1 is still overkill and not taken advantage simply due to restrictions by iPadOS. You can even argue how "sustainable" Apple actually is, releasing a new tablet "just because".

It's not even meant in a bad way, I guess I am just saying an iPad from 3 (?) years ago is still running perfectly, which is actually great!
Clearly your use case is quite limited. What you say is true if you stick to one or two apps at a time. But even with the M1, running multiple windows and spaces in stage manager it gets warm pretty quickly and the battery life shrinks to 4-5 hours with the occasional stutter (my battery health is 96%). We need more powerful and more efficient chips on the iPad Pros.

My prediction:

Price increase of $200 for 11.1” Pro (LCD to OLED)
Price increase of $100 for 13” Pro (miniLED to OLED)

The extreme price increases that MacRumors is repeating is unbelievable IMO. They need to stop and think before sharing certain rumors.

I try to look at the overall value / longevity when the price of a product scares me lol.

$2k for a new iPad Pro 13” (with tax) is a HELL of a lot even though my current one is from 2018. I do keep it for a long time…

idk. I may still get it if I can get a couple hundred for my current one.

I leave my ipad on with static images a lot. So I’m not sure if a oled screen would be good for me. The mini led screen seems to be pretty good anyway but that new price…

If iPad pros get super expensive, beyond what they are now, I just don’t know if I’ll buy another one. Like I could take a $100 price increase. But hundreds? And then keyboard is probably gonna be about the price of a cheap laptop at that point

They’re really stretching it. Probably keep my iPad until it stops getting updates

It's good to know future iPads will be OLED or eventually microLED, but I'm more than content with my M1 miniLED 12.9 Pro. My last big Apple year was 2021 when my timing to upgrade things happened to converge and I got an M1 MacBook Pro (after having my previous MacBook pro for about a decade), the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPad Pro... 2 years with these items has me still feeling perfectly good (I'd like my iPhone to have better battery life, but that's the only complaint).

Definitely NOT in the market for a new iPad for at least another 3 years, especially at these prices, barring some unknown MAJOR breakthrough.

I am getting the Vision Pro, and yes I'm conflicted over spending so much on a first-gen item sight-unseen. I do plan to upgrade to an iPhone 16 Pro to be able to take "spatial" videos and photos (I want to experiment with filmmaking in this format), but that's gonna tap my tech spending out for a couple years.

Thank you for reading my rambling thoughts on this matter.

If only the bit the bullet and BUILT THE OS THESE TECHNICAL BEASTS REQUIRE!

Apple is just turning the Pro line into a greenhouse project like Microsoft's Surface tablets, a niche product with great functionality, but not a very widespread needed functionality ..., aside from Booboisie Status Buys.

I have a maxed out iPad Pro 12.9 (M2). I'm beginning to think you're right. iPads are great consumption devices. But a $500 iPad can do that just as easily as $2,500 one can. Probably 99 percent of people don't need more than an iPad Air.

And somewhere greater than 50% could be just as well served with the least expensive iPad.

$1500 for the 11”, plus whatever outrageous price they charge for the new keyboard, is going to make even the small one more expensive than an M3 MacBook Pro. And it can’t even run macOS….

Really bad product strategy imo.

You're wrong. Tim Apple was saying iPad could replace Mac or PC as the main computer.
Context matters. For the way many average people use a computer an iPad works just as well if not better than a laptop for them in terms playing games, texting, watching video, email and consuming media. In that context an iPad is an ideal replacement for mainstream use.

But as a professional work station an iPad isn’t, or at least mighn’t be, a good alternative to a laptop. If you do something requiring a lot of data input through the keyboard a laptop remains the superior choice. If you do video editing, music editing or 3D modelling a laptop (or desktop) is superior to an iPad.

I'm going to be using my 12.9" M2 for many more years. I don't want the risk of burn in on OLED. Or have they managed to eliminate that problem? I use my iPad at least a few hours per day.
