That’s nice. And when this bubble bursts and RAM prices go back to normal will you do the likewise reasonable thing and lower prices back down to where they were before this nonsense started?

Depends on the price elasticity. If enough people stop buying Apple products, they'll lower prices. It's very simple economics

This is a really interesting article on why the current approach to AI will fail and how different approaches are necessary.

Interestingly it states that current models are wrong ~1/4 of the time at best and that the scale up approach to compute driving the AI bubble is doomed to fail.

When something is wrong 1/4 of the time it is literally selling the customer lemons 🍋 by design.
Knowing this, how could we think of AI agents as a feature worth paying for today? Apple was right in not getting on the AI bandwagon in the first place. It is unable to deliver on its promises right now and will just be an expensive lemon 🍋.

As just an average person, all I see about AI is bad news. I’m starting to avoid it and choosing products and services without it until it’s proven to be actually useful.
Basically all software is being programmed by AI, at least in part, already. That's only going to increase in the future.

It's like trying to avoid products and services that use electricity.

Dear Apple,

Here’s my explanation about why I’m not upgrading this year.

See your explanation.

Best,
D
Yes...with the Mac Studio increase of about $1,300 from yesterday for the same box...yeah Apple. You got to be kidding.

And will apple decrease their prices in a year or so..yeah..sure.

Bitterness is now the taste for Apple products. 😡

Let stock prices go down. I can see maybe a few hundred dollars, but $1,300 ?????

😡

Was budgeting for a 24GB/1TB Air or Mini… just a punch in the gut now.

Will refrain from any purchase for a while now. Doubtful the prices will ever drop because too many people will keep buying, the majority of them not realizing today’s hikes.

And Tim knows that. Us tech savvy folks voting with our wallets may not make much difference.

We know this is not welcome news, and we are working tirelessly to find solutions.

Yeah, okay Tim. I believe you.

Solutions...cheaper Chinese parts but with the same price. Tim..we know how it works.

Humm...rethinking Apple products now...never thought I would even consider..

just add this to increased prices for:
- home and car insurance
- property taxes
- gas prices
- groceries
- utilities
- reduced hours for community services (where I live)

and no pay increases from my work

Fun times.
If only consumers could organize as well as businesses do and have an effective boycott strategy over a month or so.

I bought a 4 terabyte Samsung SSD drive a year ago and prices have doubled since then. I'm sure Apple would have preferred no price increases, but they have to recover costs to preserve margins.

Yeah, because the price increases on everything just covers the cost increase of the parts. Riiiiight... ATV4K has tiny RAM and tiny storage and went up 67%. Please explain that...

Apple has always gouged their customers on RAM and storage prices. This is inexcusable.
There is no distinction between themselves and "AI companies".

It's a mess of the tech industry's own making, and the con is that they're asking us to reward their failures.
The only rational thing to to is to withhold our money to teach them that NONE of our money is worse than a lower margin on their bottom line.

Did Apple also give all their employees a raise? I didn't think so.

What a crock, ethernet isn't more expensive, how do they explain the Apple TV with ethernet price increase being more than the wifi one?
The ethernet model also has twice the storage and a threads radio. It may have more RAM too, I'm not sure.

They still wildly screwed up increasing the price that much all at once.

I was also shocked by the HUGE % increase for an Apple TV (of all things, seriously). Having said that, I can't imagine anyone actually buying the current old hardware that's way overdue to be replaced (thanks new Siri). I have four of the current gen and was thinking about upgrading them all if the next gen offers enough of an improvement. I'm also an huge Apple home user and the latest gen ATV's and HomePods sometimes struggle to keep up.

It doesn't make sense - unless the next gen ATV is a really big improvement - and Apple's just getting the painful price hike out of the way now so it'll seem like a bargain when it's finally released?

Of course, if it isn't a huge improvement then the new pricing is nuts.

It must be hard for poor apple to preserve their 40% margin in this environment…
Exactly and that's fine, but let's be honest.

If someone were to say, look we make 40% profit on this item, and we don't want to lose that. If we locked in the price we'd only make 20% profit on the item and we are not prepared to accept that, hence we are raising prices to consumers.

I'd full accept that as being nice and honest
