That's the most ridiculous argument ever. Or else, you would have to agree Windows is the best desktop OS, because it has a clear, enduring monopoly, or that Android is than iOS, because they amount to 2.5 billion users
Your arguments have been ridiculous, which leads us to this point. I do believe windows is objectively the best desktop o/s. And you are correct, 2.5 billion users think android is better than iOS for their own reasons.

(https://www.businessofapps.com/data...ost popular,users spanning over 190 countries.).

We all know users don't just buy devices because they're technically best. Many other factors weight into their purchase, including being on a budget or because they just "like" a certain device (as opposed to it being objectively best).
There is such a thing called form and function. People buy massed produced for consumer devices for their own reasons. But this is far afield of “proving” apple is objectively wrong about stage manager.

In other words, you believe the masses are always right.

Sigh. This is either pure laziness, pure greed, or both. Macbooks have been capable of displaying / switching between multiple windows on multiple monitors for years, with less than 4 GB and far less CPU / GPU power than one tenth of the A12Z. Either the engineers were instructed, "Implement this as inefficiently and resource-intensively as possible", or else it was simply a sales decision (let's force 'em to upgrade).

Either way, the harsh truth remains: nothing that iPadOS is capable of requires anything approaching M1; the software is outclassed by the hardware and M2 will just make it worse.

It’s funny but I posted a time stamp of MaxTech’s video 10:20 I believe on the developer flags showing A-X/Z had support for this feature and was dropped. Some keep asking for proof Apple made a business decision over technical one… there it is.

Again anyone running the beta should submit feedback.

I suspect most people who use their iPads will not know or use or even miss this feature. Truth be told the iPad is seen mainly as a media consumption device and to a lesser extent a creative device granted with expensive accessories. This is another fine example that Apple is struggling to define what or where it is heading while not stepping on the Mac hardware division. 2020 iPad Pro owner here and I don’t feel I will be missing these extended features.

All I want is the ability to have a fully extended display (2020 iPad Pro). It’s stupid because in App you can have non 16:9 extended support but on Home Screen it’s got the black bars.

Wild theory: The end game of the Continuity set of features is full process migration, which is vastly more feasible by supporting M1 onward only...

So not, "throw your mouse/keyboard over to another system", or "take over the display on this other system as if it were an external monitor", but live-migrate the process itself across different machines. You can keep working on your Keynote/whatever document on a totally different system, all purely locally and with zero interruptions.
I don’t know….
Sounds expensive! 😂

I agree this is an overlooked flaw that should be the default when mirroring was initially implemented. I hope iPadOS 16 fixes this without the other extended features.

What were you attempting to prove with this? I read one fact (There is no M1 mini) followed by a lot of opinions based on one’s personal use of a device.
Then you also missed the fact that of the newest iPads, 2/3rds of them don't support it.
You keep repeating that “the mini is the only good tablet apple makes” as if that is a fact.
It may be the best tablet apple makes FOR YOU, but it is not a universal truth.
Sure. Go on. Tell me what about the Pro makes it a tablet?
Edit: If you want apples “pro level” features, don’t buy the mini product expecting it to be pro. Like it or not, apple does not consider the mini equal to the pro, and it does not have the screen size, battery capacity, or thermals of the air.
The screen size and battery are the reasons I consider the mini the best tablet on the market.
Good is a relative term and depends on the criteria.
Sure, but the Pro's aren't tablets. They are touch screen Macs with iPadOS.
For example, I need my iPad for illustration and I need as much space as possible. So, I could say: "the 12.9" is the only good tablet Apple makes." I don't care if you can or can't hold it one handed above my head - because I don't need that.

See? It's really relative. The truth is - Mini is an awesome iPad.... for certain use cases. It's the same for every iPad out there. Sadly - the Mini currently doesn't have the hardware capabilities to run Stage Manager. Probably the next one will.
Look, I agree that every tool has value in the right situation. But of all the iPads the mini has the most flexibility. You can use mini for illustration and hold it over your head, but you can't do that with the 12.9 pro. The larger weight of the pros might offer some specific improvements but in doing so causes it to not be able to do other things. That's how I come to the conclusion that the mini is the best tablet.
You need to stop.
and if you had read any of my posts I never mentioned the vanilla iPads or Airs, only the 2018 or 2020 Pro's, pariticularly the 2020's because they had 6gb ram.
The 2020 pros will still get iPadOS16. The real issue with the iPads is the same issue with the iPhones. Apple doesn't make choosing between devices comparable. They shouldn't be releasing a handful of models with so many differences in hardware. They need to make 2022 iPads, and all of them be the same except for the screen. Same battery life, same processor, same storage, etc. Just let the user decide what size screen they want. If they can't fit an M1 in a mini, don't put it in the Pro. If they want a lower-cost device, just sell the last-years device at a reduced price.

By the looks of it, if Apple release this for non M1 iPads we will end up with Flashgate. I could see all the posts now of people complain Apple bricked their storage by allowing it to be used as a swap space when it wasn’t design for it.

Maybe, but why try to make new features work with old hardware that is approaching end of support?

I get it, nice for the customer, but as far as apple is concerned, it is adding complexity to the codebase for hardware that won't be viable for many more years.

And un-necessary complexity in software is a major source of bugs.
You know the 4th gen air was the current gen up till a grand total of 3 months ago, right? It’s hardly approaching end of support…

Unless the engineer programming the Swap file implementation is one Mr M Mouse then I doubt you’ll get any issues with bricking the storage etc. The only real issue I could imagine occurring is corrupting the swap and then simply turning it off and on again should replace the swap file with a new one, hell even Windows allows you to delete the page file to start again if needed.

Can you point out when Apple made such a promise? And what's a "possible promise"?

Also, why are you buing a device who can't do something realistic?

Buying hardware hoping the software will improve in the future is extremely risky and are almost never rewarded.

What would you call the massive “You can use your Pro as a Laptop!” campaign?

Maybe a new term: Marketing Promise.

Or maybe once again “Marketing Gimmick”.

For the skeptics, here is a screenshot of my iPad 7th gen with jailbreak running 5 windowed apps simultaneously with no difficulty. All are active windows And useable (albeit small). I could’ve kept adding apps as well.

Shame on Apple.

And here is my non jailbroken 2018 iPP technically running 4 apps at once, so multitasking is certainly possible on the non M1 iPads.

Also this screenshot highlights another of my big iPad frustrations the fact that app developers can choose what system level stuff that can be done, that video player is showing Netflix but you cannot screenshot it however on a real computer you can. Another issue is that apps can completely block the 2nd screen even the garbage mirroring that we have now, whereas on a real computer you put the apps wherever you want. For instance I get BT sport online as part of my internet package and on my laptop I can use the web player and stick it on the larger 2nd screen to watch, but on the iPad thats a big hell no!

That's how it has worked for the projects I have worked on.

We decide before we start coding which feature to implement and which devices, operating system, browser or other things we are going to support before anything is coded.

Now, features might be dropped or scaled back later in the process and it's almost because you can't get the feature to be fast enough or error free. Dropping to get it to work on older versions of stuff is usually the first to get the axe.

Wow.
Never worked at a place that does it that way.
Mine have always been much more structured and the “device(s)” was never an up front factor unless it was decided beforehand as part of the project statement.

Developer flags are a clue but no proof.

There's developer flags in all kinds of software for stuff that plain doesn't work - or at least not as well as a developer intends for it public release.

Also, the Twitter regarding the developer flag's post that's referenced in MaxTech's video goes on to say:

"It’s a choice — probably the right choice"

Troughton-Smith certainly isn't referring to a non-technical business decision there.
