This is the same company that are still selling $1500 laptop with just 8GB of RAM. Not surprised about the out of touch and elitist attitudes. :D

I guess you are missing the irony that we are discussing—and you are purchasing—from one of the most expensive mass market consumer electronics brands on earth.

But yeah, it’s those of us that don’t agree with you that are “out of touch and elitist attitudes”.

As it stands, I’m confused how entitlement to certain software upgrades is any better in your mind than what you view as the alternative (see above).

This kind of support drop happens from time to time. We have moved iPads from a modified iPhone hardware (A#, lightning) to a modified mac hardware base (M1, USBC/thunderbolt). This was bound to happen, and it’s not the end of the world.

It’s lose/lose — everyone will just comment they are “lying” as if they know the intricacies of their inner workings, engineering pipeline, or business track. Whether we like it or not, there’s a reason they are a multi-trillion dollar company and it’s not listening to Redditors or MacRumors commentators.
It could be a win win if Apple simply showed how bad it would be on the A12X/Z iPad Pros. If Apple were actually honest to begin with, being transparent about it can push more people to upgrade.

Entitled? Apple was the one that claimed they couldn’t do it on the older iPads for various reasons. If they were honest about it, then just show how bad it is on those iPads. Don’t tell me they don’t have iOS 16 development alpha or beta running in those models. They are still being supported on ios 16 after all.

I don’t feel entitled as I don’t even have any iPads. Apple made a statement, and I simply want to see if they are being honest about it or not. Simple. Or do you believe anything big companies are saying? :D

Those commenting about support for a 4 year iPad/chip are missing a major point.

The iPad Mini.

It’s newer than the M1 Pro, as is the A15 newer than the M1. I understand it’s not as fast, though the A15 in the Mini does benchmark quicker than the A12X/Z (at least in Geekbench).

In other words, Apple have dropped support for their newest iPad (in terms of both newest design refresh and newest chip).

It’s ridiculous.
m1 air to big for me . we get last week mini. Why we dont wait september ? my mini5 is really in sad mode(backlight problem , battery below 80 percent ) . We just wanr full screen external , it is sooo hard?

The same goes for nearly every decision they make. They put a lot of thought into everything they do (or so it seems). It makes me laugh that MR people think Apple is going to cater to edge use cases. A prime example of this is sideloading. Apple doesn’t care about what a handful of internet nerds think or want.
Sadly, there are career commentators here that would rather continue to complain, year after year, about something that gives them so much grief, they become incapable of ever looking for alternatives.

You know what never gives me enough grief to go on a dedicated forum to it and complain? Nothing — because I simply move on from products, companies, or experiences that I don’t jive with.

Sure, and next we can insist Microsoft PROVE Windows 10 can’t run on a Pentium II with 512 GB RAM. It’s still x86, it should just work, right?
Oh false equivalency.
1. Nobody’s demanding Apple to have it running on the original iPad.
2. Apple’s the one making that statement about why they cannot have that feature on a previous generation iPads. Imagine if Microsoft tell you you cannot run Windows 11 on laptops bought 3 years ago.
3. Windows 11 can actually run on non supported CPUs, despite Microsoft’s statement on the minimum requirements. Even many people do it here. Windows 10 even runs on those old netbooks as its minimum system requirements is actually pretty low.

You just don’t understand these complainers. They want Apple to act like some other company that gives away fee software for 10 years. They know Apple and keep wishing that Apple would turn into a different company. Rather than leave, they keep wishing.

Yes, I was exaggerating to make a point. You’re insisting a feature is being held back to sell newer product, despite being told it’s a technical issue.

Why would Apple include every OTHER new feature of iPadOS 16, but not Stage Manager, as a means to sell more iPads? Why would they include all sorts of other functionality, but not that?

If it was about selling iPads, why provide anything other than security updates?

Or how about give the update to their newest iPad? The Mini.

I’m usually happy enough with Apples decisions for dropping software support, because historically it’s been very fair. This time though…they are holding back a key feature from their most recent iPad release (in terms of design refresh and chip recency).

I remember my iPhone 3G got an iOS update it had no business getting. **** happens.

I never said you couldn’t ask. You are not however entitled to receive the information you want. Nor is a company morally or legally obligated to provide that. Internal testing did not show performance meeting the minimum standards they were looking for.

Whether I “believe anything big companies are saying” is ultimately irrelevant. Access to the why behind the decisions Apple makes is not your right, regardless of how much you may wish that to be you. You are not the one they are accountable to, and you are not the one who is going to receive the information behind those decisions. This is not unique to apple.

Explain to us why Maksed Face-ID is limited to the last two gen iPhones. Explain to us why camera improvements are always limited to the last gen iPhones. Explain to us…
Processing power from the A Series chip. A15 is on both the 12 and 13. The 13 has an upgraded version of A15 over the 12. 13 has OIS which I believe is hardware-driven.

I was skeptical at first, but it actually is a nice way to switch back and forth between applications and multitask.
macos got dock , switch tab command some more spaces.Only suitable for one single screen not dual monitor or large wide screen.

Why is that? The actual minimum requirements for Windows 10 are a 1 GHz processor with 1 GB RAM.

It’s because the only time the use of hyperbole is acceptable is when they are bashing apple and apples decisions.

There are those who will never be happy until apple is forced to be run resembling socialism.

It is an expensive brand that historically has dropped support early for previous hardware that is holding back their vision. I’m so tired of the group here that wants nothing more than to burn down apple and remake it in their image.

Many of us are happy with the crafted software and hardware ecosystem we have today. We understand that sometimes the hardware is ahead of the software, and sometimes the software is using key components of the hardware.

It happens enough to know that apple is not afraid to move on quickly if they see a wide benefit to the move, but not frequently enough to feel this level of outrage.

As to everyone who is so paranoid that apple is constantly lying to them, I think you need a vacation. It’s a statement about a software update 🤦🏻‍♂️
