that's a 20in display and a 15in powerbook (old school). I'm typing on mine now sitting beside my 22in cinema display with my pro keyboard, and the keyboard is considerably smaller width wise. My powerbook also looks plenty big next to my monitor. That is also a third party vendor booth, there is nothing special about it. I work for a design firm and we do tradeshows... those are the same boxes we ship our lighting/projectors/plasmas in (not saying there are no powerbooks, i think they will be there, these are not the boxes though).

Not trying to be a downer (i'm about to have fits myself) but you guys are exhibiting signs of hysteria... jesus... THERE IT IS.... no.... THERE IT IS... no IT"S OVER THERE!!

settle down a bit.

I was wondering, I assume all the shots must have been taken covertly with a mobile phone or something - surely you couldn't just walk around the Expo setup happily taking snaps!

AHHHH this wait is killing me - and I have to wait until Wed in Oz! ;)

To me the most significant things in these photos are the lack of any kind of portable or freestanding display on the Apple stand.

This either means one heck of a laptop revamp tomorrow (iBooks->G4, powerbooks->G5) or Apple has become so p***ed off with Moto and their inability to supply chips for notebooks that they've scrapped the whole lines.

The displays I think are imminent too. i didn't think so before seeing those photos but it looks likely I have to admit.

Perhaps the delay in G5 powermacs is so that customers can augment their orders with a new display or two should they wish to? Nah! Anyway, I've already bought mine and like so many other peoples they're sitting in a corner... useless :-(

The control surfaces/keyboards that were in one of the photos (and posted, numerously!, in this forum) were I think microKorg synths. Great little keyboards for music production and live work. Look like a toy but sound like the real deal! I could be wrong though, it's a very blurry pic.

Anway, my money's still on iPads, PowerPads and vpods tomorrow :)

I'm sure they're mixing boards of some kind and i don't know what picture you're looking at, but those boxy looking aluminum jobs sitting next to those screens aren't G4's, they're G5's

( possibly for 'garage band'? :D )

I don't think there mixing board, I think there the new BT keyboard and mouse :p:D

Oh yeah 15inch powerbooks and 10.3 and plus new scrreens ibooks and updated emacs and powermacs!!

Cool! New emacs!

The question, though: Terminal-based, or full-on Aqua goodness? Retro, or futuristic mega-os-in-a-text-editor?

Those vi fools will be drooling all over themselves!

I completely agree with you. Whats up people?? My god... that is 15'' PB for sure. Not a new one!! you can clearly see the white part that goes around the edge of it.... WOW...

Regarding Picture with microKorgs.

It would be kool if it was a MIDI orchestra scoring live to a Pixar animation on the fly, it could be done! :D

More likely - the setup seriously looks like a midi teaching studio setup suitable for schools or conservatoriums.

The microKorg is a handy controller keyboard regardless of if you use the internal sounds or not.

damn whats wrong with u people? shees:rolleyes: no slurs please read the damn rules ( i feel rather snappy today);) snyways we will see tommorow i going to stay up all night (ifeel special)

Don't wanna rain on anyone's parade, but:

- Could photos of any new PB's exist and be leaked? Sure.

- Would they be in a third party (look at the photo)'s booth? Never in a million years.

If there are new PBs at the show (and here's hoping) they are VERY SECURELY LOCKED UP in Apple's booth. Sadly, they are not available for casual wanderers to photograph.

I would not discredit the 750GX (? the newest 750 from IBM - It think its the GX) either. It could be a good stop gap until the G5s systems are ready. It has high clock rate, Altivec, lots of cache, good thermal characteristics, and a 200MHz bus. It should beat out a 7455b.

Or maybe Apple will wait until the G5 PBs are ready and release the 750GX in the iBooks.

You seem to be smoking last year's crack. The Gobi (750GX) has no Altivec whatsoever. None. Not a bit. NOW we are rumoring the future 750VX (Mohave) to have Altivec. Whatever IBM PPC750 that's coming next with no solid info on it: That's the part with Altivec. :D

G5 Duals - now shipping?

So what will Steve be announcing about the G5 duals that they have started charging (not authorizing - charging) to peoples credit cards tonight?

Now that their order status suddenly went down?

Did they do something special with the duals, or are they just trying to get them out before the keynote?

What's wrong with smoking drugs? I am waiting for my new PB so I can go to Amsterdam and get high (legally) and watch the Lord of the Rings on my 15.4" laptop. Gandalf fighting the Balrog is a rush! Am I right? You know what I speak.

They're frantically trying to justify a PowerBook G5 so soon ;)

Whatever, you knew what I was talking about. FX, GX, VX, PX, RX, AX - IBM has stupid naming conventions. Who can keep them all straight anyway.

Mojave will be a good upgrade chip for older systems if the rumours are true.

They are obviously just upset that they don't have any and can't be bothered to leave their keyboards long enough to get some.

There will never be an Altivec G3. It would be easier to make a 90 nm G5, which would be cool and cheap enough to put across the line. Debate over.

Not you again.

There are lots of good reasons to make an Altivec G3. It has better thermal characteristics than the G5, smaller die, fewer transitors, lower cost to manufacture. They will milk this design as long as they can. It is much more likely that the 750 will see a die shrink before the 970. Sorry. The fact is that these are a nice little revenue stream for IBM in embedded systems and networking equipment in addition to the general application processor market.

And from what I have read IBM is skipping the 90nm process for the G5. They are going straight to 60.

Apple will need some product differentiation between the Pro and Consumer lineup. G4 (if the next 750 is indeed called a 'G4' by Apple) versus G5.

Taking an existing chip design to a new manufacturing process is never easy, and how do you know it would be cheaper? Yes, they will fit more cpu per die, but yields will be low and they have to recoup the costs of gear for a new assembly line.

Thermal characteristics are as much a function of good design as process these days. The thermal characteristics of NVidia's NV30 part were horrible despite it being based on a 130nm process (vs 150nm).
