This has been commented on several times already, but Apple really do need a cheap desktop. I'd hope they'd replace the eMac with a monitorless machine, nice and neat, and allowing those with existing monitors to get a mac very cheaply. The eMac currently costs $799, remove the monitor, add a larger hard drive, and voila, a great Mac for say $699. At that price a 1.25GHz G4 is fine (for now).

I suppose Apple is sending you their daily sales reports. From what I've seen on message boards, plenty of people seem to by buying them. Besides, even if that was the case, Apple can not release a major new rev until their suppliers are ready to supply them with the hardware. G5's in PB's are currently out of the question, and the dual core chips are not in production yet. So there you go, NO REV.Because no one is buying the current lineup.

The current model is fine for what I need, I just don't like buying things close to the next revision. Since I am only a student, it's hard for me to save enough money to buy my dream machine, so I just want to make sure it'll last me long enoughaswitcher said:What dont they have that you need? Faster bus/clock? (sure we all would like that). What else do they lack?

i just stumbled across a strange advertisement on the webpage of a german online store: When i go to http://www.cyberport.de/ the page presents a banner-ad titled "Music in the Store!" (subtitle: "Music Days im Cyberport Store.").
The ad shows a 4G iPod embraced by a score with an AirPort Express sitting right next to it. The text left to the iPod says (roughly translated): "What does an iPod sense, when Aiport Express is coming closer?" [german: "Was spürt ein iPod wenn ihm Airport Express näherkommt?"]. The announced date is September 2nd/3rd.
I am probably just paranoid, but the title could be a subtle innuendo to the iTMS and the setup indicates a WLan connection between both units, thus (maybe) enabling the iPod to directly access the iTMS via AirPort Express without the need for a Computer to sit "in the middle".

This makes absolutely sense for me and fits the picture of the iPod as a "musical lifestyle hub" of its own.![]()

Stop!
Everyone who keeps talking about "wireless FireWire" without ever reading up about it, just... STOP!

that would be stupid.
