I think everyone wanted a better Siri over probably all of the other Apple Intelligence features. That's why everyone's peeved.
I like the current Apple Intelligence features. A more personal Siri was not something that I was looking forward to. The writing tools are very helpful and avoids either spending money on an editor or spending time proofreading my documents.

“Unfair competition? They might be the market leader in some areas, but not AI. Other brands were miles ahead when Apple launched AI.
All of those other AIs are a joke, a bad joke. They cannot even get facts correct. ChapGPT makes up stories about a father killing two of his children and attempting to kill the third and is current in jail. It is good that the judicial system is not using AI.

It would be great to fill a counter lawsuit against them for not using their human intelligence to understand that these features were in development at the time and some times things take longer than expected. In other words the plaintiffs should have used common sense rather than file a stupid lawsuit. They are just lazy people wanting to make a quick dollar.
The only people that knew about the "development" cycle, were developers and those that watch the Keynotes.

The average person doesn't do that, so yes, it was definitely wrong for Apple to even mention Apple Intelligence in all of their advertising for the iPhone 16. Not to mention, one could argue that Apple's only avenue to selling the iPhone 16 was to include language about how it includes "Apple Intelligence," as there wasn't a single other feature worth upgrading for.

In other words, the only reason why Apple was able to sell a lot of iPhone 16's was because uninformed people were told the phone would have all of the Apple Intelligence features enabled -- otherwise, why would anyone have upgraded to it? One could have just purchased an iPhone 15 through their carrier for $1.99 a month. Apple knew the iPhone 16 would be a flop without advertising "Built for Apple Intelligence" as the phone's catch phrase. So because of that, Apple definitely owes people money and an apology -- essentially because they scammed everyone with their bait and switch tactic.

Tim definitely needs to answer for this, and why Apple can't come up with hardware and software that's innovative. There needs to be a full investigation into his latest, illegal shenanigans. Do you know why Tim won't be able to provide a solid answer to the investigation? Because Tim isn't qualified to be in the position he's in as a tech CEO. Hope he gets terminated upon completion of the investigation and personally sued.

Their hardware & software is innovative, a lot more innovative than everything coming from both Google and Samsung. Microsoft has not innovated in decades. Artificial Intelligence is just another fad that will be over in a couple of years anyway.

Frankly, none of this should be tolerated from Apple.

Do not release things, nor market them relentlessly, until they are actually "ready".

The BS "coming soon" or "now available!**" is totally gross and not something we should expect Apple to reduce themselves to.

** not really, but parts of it we talked about may be available sometime in the next year

I’d definitely join this class action. I specifically upgraded to the iPhone 16 Pro in the hopes I’d get a MUCH better Siri sometime in 2025. Otherwise I would have delayed my purchase by at least a year.
As I have pointed out to my wife, every year for quite some time, technology "journalists" have always said to wait for the next smartphone when the new one is about to be released. People should purchase devices when they need rather than being stupid and listening to marketing.

It is not wrong, it is build for Apple Intelligence. Unlike many people that cannot use their Human Intelligence.

They've attached "built for Apple Intelligence" to things that were designed and released before it was even a going concern of theirs.

It's gaslighting to make it look like this was all a grand plan, as opposed to what really happened -- getting caught with shorts off when the tide went out.

Lmao. YEAH OK. One just has to read your first sentence and not even give you the time of day. If MacRumors didn't have a strict moderation team, I'd rip your post to shreds.

There was zero other reasons to buy a 16. I think deep down, many are frustrated with Apple's laziness and milking the cow attitude.

Yes. I read an interesting article this week that compared the Apple of today to a utility company. They have become less and less about actual innovation and more about just churning out tiny updates for those who “just need a new phone” and want an iPhone. The article pointed out that, even for people who practically just need a new phone after multiple years, that adds up to huge sales over time. So, Apple will continue to make huge profits even just from those who break their phone and need a new one or people who have a 6 year old phone and need/want to update.

It’s a sad state for people who actually like technology and want Apple to move forward. The fact is, they seem to have no incentive anymore to innovate. Why would they? People will just keep buying their products regardless. Why not just take a greater profit margin? They are not really a product company anymore in many ways. Then they have people who will support them no matter what they do and are quick to make excuses for them.

I’ve Said it before and I’ll say it again if Apple hadn’t let Siri languish for all these years, there wouldn’t have been such a pent up expectation and anger that the newer features aren’t coming when promised. I call it “Siri’s Revenge.”

Great post ... it's right on the money

I think about it like this ... put a Dell or HP brand on what Apple has been up to and many of their recent product flops and think about how we'd all be reacting to it.

(we'd be torching them and wildly unimpressed)

The Apple name, lineage and long reputation from the past is what's carrying the torch right now.

You should exit the forum mentality. People buying a 16 are maybe former iPhone 11 owners, so there are PLENTY of reasons to buy anyway. Performance, battery life, better camera, USB C…

That was a great advertisement!
It’s another ad that Apple had to pull recently - because it sucked.
They used to have ads that were so good that people were talking about them for ages, winning advertising awards, etc.
Now it’s mostly cringe at best, offensive at worst.
Paying huge money to ad agencies and then having to pull the ads because they are so misguided is just amazing to me.

Instead now we get:

Wife botched husbands birthday ... totally forgot ... but she's saved by quickly getting him a "gift" of her iPhone making a photo slideshow

So much love
So heartwarming

That was one of the worst ADs I've ever seen. The fact that it made it past concept stage, all the way to production and release shows that something is SERIOUSLY wrong inside Apple.

Agreed, the advertising Creative direction is just unbelievably lame right now.

I upgraded to a 16 PM from 14 PM expecting the AI features and here we are. I didn't need to upgrade, my 14 PM was working just fine. Lemme get in on that lawsuit.

I understand wanting to get it right, but what Apple did here by focusing on Apple Intelligence in the marketing of the iPhone 16s was wrong. I’ve been using Apple’s stuff since kindergarten in the early 80s, and this was a flail if there’s ever been one.

I upgraded to get features advertised for the 16 Pro that apparently won’t be available until the 17s come out (or later). I gladly stand as a member of the affected class, and expect Apple will lose this one.

Sadly, even the released Apple Intelligence features have been pretty garbage thus far. I’ve turned most of them off, at this point.
