You say that but I just watched an AI ad and nothing about beta anywhere in it. If you got to Apple’s website it has a 2 subscript you can click that takes you down to the fine print.Very poor choice in any case, on your part
AI was advertised as Beta.
I'd be happy with a new, FREE 17 or 18, whatever has fully functioning AI, with trade in of my old 16.Well apple intelligence was a big selling point of their 16 range; and we're nearing halfway through the product cycle for the range so yeah.
If nothing else; i can imagine apple being forced to accept full refunds for not delivering as advertised.
Not sure how many would actually do it (probably not a lot)
"Later". How much "later" is reasonable? When the next model comes out is not reasonable as then it's basically Apple relying on non-existent features to sell a model that was otherwise not very exciting. It won’t go anywhere. The phones did ship with Apple Intelligence and clearly claimed those other features were coming later — which they still have been publicly said to be. That’s all the judge will need to hear.
That was different. They didn’t promise something not available. Only system stability was the issue at the time.Remember when the iPhone first came out? The demo on stage was mind-blowing! But behind the scenes, it was a total disaster. They had to follow strict rules to avoid crashing. I think that’s what’s happening here. They thought they could pull it off and rushed the release, just like Steve Jobs would have done. But since AI is still in its early stages, it didn’t work out as planned. All the other companies are rushing to add AI features to their phones, which are also pretty lacklustre, so Apple felt they had to keep up. They should have just waited until it was ready and released it then. That way, they could totally blow the competition out of the water. But instead, they’re stuck with this PR nightmare. This is not Steve Job’s Apple anymore no matter how badly Apple wants it to be.
I’m not here to defend Apple on this, but the words BETA were everywhere not in fine print but on the AI icon itselfYou say that but I just watched an AI ad and nothing about beta anywhere in it. If you got to Apple’s website it has a 2 subscript you can click that takes you down to the fine print.
As a consumer are you expected to read the fine print on a website when a company advertises on TV with no mention of it? Apple had a super bowl ad about it which is the largest sporting event in the US so safe to say that’s more impactful for families than going to the Apple website.
I care. I upgraded to a 16 Pro Max just to have the AI, I knew it was going to be released in phases but I never expected them to lie and push back the features until maybe 2026, reports say that maybe even 2027

Hmm… you convinced me that this is exactly what Jobs would have done! 😂This is not Steve Job’s Apple anymore no matter how badly Apple wants it to be.
Good! I was wondering how long it was going to take for this to happen.
Apple has been accused of false advertising and unfair competition for delaying the Siri Apple Intelligence features that it promoted when launching iOS 18 and the iPhone 16 models, reports Axios.

The suit targets Apple ads that showed off Siri features that were unavailable, and claims that Apple cultivated "a clear and reasonable consumer expectation that these transformative features would be available upon the iPhone's release," while also driving "unprecedented excitement" that convinced millions consumers to upgrade their devices when the upgrades were not necessary.
After confirming that the Siri features would be delayed until the coming year, Apple removed the ads, but that was after they had been running for several months. Apple is accused of advertising functionality that did not exist, and continuing to promote the Siri capabilities well after the company was aware that they would not be available on time.
The lawsuit was filed in a San Jose, California court and the plaintiffs are seeking class action status along with damages for customers who purchased an Apple device that supports Apple Intelligence.

I really don’t think whether or not AI was technically “beta” is the issue most people have with this situation. The issue is that the devices marketed and sold were not labeled “Built for Apple Intelligence BETA” , it was “Built for Apple Intelligence”. Period.I’m not here to defend Apple on this, but the words BETA were everywhere not in fine print but on the AI icon itself
to me, what was shown in those ads was plain cheating. that was my first reactionThat girls face on that ad sums it up. It’s like she just pick pocketed you and thought she got away with it.
In my case AI wasn’t the selling point at all (AI is just a gimmick every manufacturer is using today), nonetheless I’m not forgiving Apple for false advertising.People are ridiculous defending Apple for this. The point of the whole topic is that Apple pushed the hell out of AI as THE SELLING POINT of the iPhone 16 series (along with almost every product this cycle). It now appears to be almost certain that these features will not arrive until the iPhone 17 series (and probably post-launch). It could have been any other feature. It just happened that they false advertised AI to drive sales. Mentioning it at WWDC is one thing. Putting it in EVERY SINGLE ad for your products as the tag line is another.
Enough with the individualistic overkill, where people want to blame individuals for being deceived. Oh, someone robbed you? That’s your fault for being an idiot and not protecting yourself. Should have known there are thieves out there. /s
As I said above I’m not defending Apple on this, because they overpromised and underdelivered.I really don’t think whether or not AI was technically “beta” is the issue most people have with this situation. For better or worse, labeling a feature as “BETA” while using the feature to sell devices sets expectations of at least imminent availability. And the ads showed a feature that we now know was nowhere close to what was depicted.
Apple may or may not try to hide behind “fine print”, but if they choose to do that, they’ll take an even bigger hit in customer perception of the brand.
There was zero other reasons to buy a 16. I think deep down, many are frustrated with Apple's laziness and milking the cow attitude. As I said above I’m not defending Apple on this, because they overpromised and underdelivered.
I’m just saying that buy a product primarily based on a beta feature wasn’t a smart move.
I think everyone wanted a better Siri over probably all of the other Apple Intelligence features. That's why everyone's peeved.PS. It's pretty funny that almost everyone on MR claimed they would turn off AI rather than be forced to use it. Clearly no one here can file for the claim.
And, the finer argument is that the software definitely was not at Beta status (not as far as industry norms consider a Beta product) when the commercial was made. Working 60% of the time is not Beta worthy. Alpha may be. Definitely not Beta.I really don’t think whether or not AI was technically “beta” is the issue most people have with this situation. It would be great to fill a counter lawsuit against them for not using their human intelligence to understand that these features were in development at the time and some times things take longer than expected. In other words the plaintiffs should have used common sense rather than file a stupid lawsuit. They are just lazy people wanting to make a quick dollar.

Probably not, most people understand and it is not like there is a competitor that has equivalent functionality that people could switch to, everything else is a decade behind.Perhaps, but the PR damage is going to be huge.
