While I can appreciate what a 5.5 iPhone can do to to apple's bottom line, especially as an apple investor, I have always maintained that people who use phablets look like they're talking to a bathroom tile.

Interesting point, and may I ask, as you are using the physical size of the mobile phone to come to this conclusion, are you also allowing for the variation of the human that is using it?

EG: Would an 8 year old slim girl holding an iPhone to her ear, be exactly the same to you as a 6ft 8" 260lb construction worker?

Would the "it looks right" not scale up in your mind?

Perhaps a 4" iPhone is bigger in comparison to body/head/hand size to an 8 year old girl, than the same 4" device is to the 6ft 8" construction worker.

Why should everyone, From a child with a small body and hands, to the construction worker, have to (in your world) use the exact same sized device.

Can you not see how stupid this concept is?

Why would I need to run calculations in my head in order to validate an opinion I have? This was merely an observation I have and no where in my original post did I say nor did I even insinuate that everyone should use the exact same sized device. People can hold their iPads up to their ears for all I care. They'd look strange for doing it but they have as much a right to do that as I do to form an opinion about it.

I hope apple releases a 5.5" iPhone and I hope you enjoy it immensely.

This is why we all love Apple.

They never rush an unfinished product to market. New iPhones will ONLY launch when they are perfect and ready to delight every single consumer from the moment they initiate the power on button.

This is what separates Apple from the competition - you know the masses of OEMs who are happy to launch good enough products with a ton of compromises just to meet some artificial launch date. Apple doesn't do this, and it's something we should all celebrate.

You are forgetting Apple Maps.

ok. I guess in 1-2 weeks they will have production back on track for the larger iPhone...

All the leaks of the 4.7 and none of the 5.5 make it seem the 5.5 was a test product. possibly for the future.

Your forgetting Apple Maps.

Maps was a unique situation because it needed to be pushed to the masses early to start collecting feedback and data to improve the overall quality and reliability of the service. And the plan worked. Apple Maps is so fantastic today because Apple was brave enough to push the accelerator and go compete with Google.

Fair point. But I think the fallout from the whole apple maps debacle has proved to only make apple stronger. It made the case for Tim Cook to simplify the teams at apple. I don't know about anyone else but for me there has been no other time since the first iPhone came out has there been such unity between OS X and iOS with Yosemite and iOS 8. I feel for the first time OS X and iOS are on level footing and finally complementing each other.

Maybe Apple should have a CEO who has experience in logistics...oh wait

Tim Cook is the worst CEO.

A whopping 3/15 products are not at their EoL according to the buyers guide.

While Apple focuses on music (see Beats) Apple neglects the most important product segment of the next 50 years, the Apple TV which hasn't been updates in 2 and a half years.

I feel the next Apple TV (still a set top box) will play a key role in apple's HomeKit plans. Imagine being able to talk to Siri on the Apple TV and say, "Hey Siri, can you turn on the lights in the living room?"

So from now on you're no longer reading macRUMORS?

Poster can speak for himself, I'm sure, but that's not how I read his post. He's saying don't react to this ONE unverified report as-if it's fact. He's not saying he doesn't enjoy reading the rumor's here as entertainment or a collection of unvetted information that needs to be verified by additional sources.

Really? Don't they post 'news' like this EVERY year before an upcoming launch?

Surprise, surprise they're almost always wrong.

That's an analyst's job... getting paid to be wrong 90% of the time.

'S' series isn't about redesign.. It's about added features.

4S - Siri

5S - Sensor touch ID

6S - Sapphire ?

Actually the "S" stands for speed. It's really mostly about a speed bump.

OK, I'll bite. How is the AppleTV the most important product segment for the next 50 years.

I'm also unsure how you infer that Apple isn't working on the next AppleTV. The MacPro also appeared to be neglected and then Apple debuted a MacPro unlike any other we'd ever seen before. But it was determined to keep the project secret so it only looked like they were sitting on their hands with the product line.

PS Iovine has hooks into all of the Entertainment industry, not just music.

Now that's funny I don't care who you are.

I am rocking a 4 right now and like a previous post, it's getting tired. So a 4.7 it is.

All flagship devices by other manufactures are 5" to 5.5". These aren't considered "phablets" anymore.

Samsung S5: 5.1"
Htc One: 5"
LG G3: 5.5"
Sony Z2: 5.2"
Oneplus One: 5.5"
Nexus 5: 5"

Apple needs to step it up, and I'm pretty sure they will. To say there isn't much market for a larger iPhone is ridiculous. To say a 5.5" phone looks ridiculous, is ridiculous. What is ridiculous, is this 3.5" screen I'm typing on right now, and I can't wait to get something larger. If not from Apple (which I really hope to stay with), looks like there are plenty other choices.

Apple map fantastic? I got a map of USSR that is more useful and way more up to date.

I know every product faces yield issues and screen issues at some point in production, but how is it the 4.7 would face less than the 5.5? Why doesn't samsung have these problems? Different display tech? Why doesn't apple use the type Samsung uses if that is the case?

I wonder why HTC and Samsung don't face any of these kind of issues. New products are being released every year with multiple screen sizes.

That's probably why Samsung uses plastic cases. As for displays, we already know Apple uses multiple suppliers. It probably isn't the Samsung displays they are having issues with. It's probably Sharp, LG, or whoever else they are using.

Hasn't anyone figured out yet that there is NO iPhone 6 with a 5.5 inch screen?
There are no leaks, no parts, no photos... only rumors.

I don't know where you have these numbers from, but for sure we will never know what Samsung sells, they only publish shipping quotes while Apple really sells, and publishes these numbers...:D

Who says I'm not comparing Apple's shipping numbers to Samsung's shipping numbers? We do know both of those or at least we can extrapolate Apple's based on their sell through.

Why was the white one a mistake?

Because they announced it before they really knew how long it was before they were going to be able to ship it and the gap ended up being a whole lot longer than they originally gave to expect.

IMHO had they known how long it was going to take to ship, they would have introduced it mid-year as an 'extra color choice' and not at the same time as the black.
