A billion flies can't be wrong, right?

You don't have to be American, since you clearly care about what they find insulting. I've used you as a plural you. Damn, English is just wierd sometimes.
I don’t care what ‘Americans’ find insulting. Another weird thing to say.

I do care about casual misogyny, casual sexism, and people just thinking they can say wtf they want with no repercussions.

The fact is, is that missing the point as badly as you and others here have, is just reinforcing the ‘casualness’ of such statements as the OP has in their book.

You don’t even know why you’re wrong. It’s ok - you have had it ingrained in to you that it’s ok, we all have, those of a certain age.
But it’s not ok, and it’s time to change.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

Haven't we all said things in the past we regret?

The rule seems to be don't get caught. I'm not a fan of that.

There should be some way for people to be forgiven. Why destroy a man's life because he once said a few rude comments about the women around him?
Already by the fact that you’re referring to it as “a few rude comments” it’s clear you don’t actually see the harm in what he did, like it’s just words and words have no impact on people or aren’t real actions on the part of the speaker. If he broke into someone’s home and stole their tv, would you be taking the same stance?

As usual, fake outrage and misrepresentation of what the guy said. His "offensive" comment said Bay-Area women are lame. That's it. BAY-AREA. He was making a snarky generalization about people found in a geographic area, not about women in general. He didn't mention men because he was talking about a heterosexual relationship.

And "racist?" Where? That's an even bigger stretch. Those whining that the quotes are "racist" are probably also pushing their illegitimate and unwanted "Latinx" shìt on everyone.

Anyone bìṭcḥing about the cited passages in this novel are inviting backlash over "cancel culture," and embarrassing themselves. Pathetic.
Oh, he's only talking **** about women in the Bay Area? WHERE IS APPLE LOCATED? You wanna talk **** about women in the Bay Area and then stroll into a Bay Area job?

Oh, and it's not just Bay Area women he talks about, it's women in general.
Treating women as a commodity:
The fastest way to cheapen anything—be it a woman, a favor, or a work of art—is to put a price tag on it.

And...Pointing out that an American city has schools named after a Mexican and African American and then comparing it to a safari, you know "an expedition to observe or hunt animals in their natural habitat," isn't a tad racist?

Almost as if on an exotic safari, Willow Road then traversed East Palo Alto, the local slum that once had the highest murder rate in the Bay Area (two of the local schools are named after César Chávez and Ron McNair, an African American astronaut)

Even if you wanted to make the idiotic safari comment, why bring up Cesar Chavez and Ron McNair unless you wanted to make a comment about the racial makeup of the area?

You are the one wrong, and repeating that you are not won't change it. You trying to change the subject and strawmanning is screaming that you already know it, but still try to save face.

The guy is fired because he said what he said while being a man. If anything, that is sexism and misandry. I can use ancient greek words too, see?

This became pointless, we are starting to run the same circles, while I don't give a flying **** about your patronizing opinion about me. Good night.

Just another example of the new culture where people can’t learn and grow from past mistakes. No one is exempt from making mistakes or saying things in the past they wish they hadn’t.
Does this sound like a guy "learning from past mistakes"? he doesn't even think he did anything wrong.

You think I’m bad, you should meet other people in tech.

Here’s the scoop: outsiders who know nothing about Silicon Valley think I’m terrible.

Insiders who know the game well think I’m actually honest, self-deprecating, and funny, and actually tame by Valley standards.

You’re evidently the former, as are many of the one-star reviews on AMZN.

The latter are the five-star reviews and the gushing Tweets.

Maybe the real problem is that most people don’t really understand how the Valley works, thinking it looks like what’s on the front page of Fortune magazine. Rather than re-adjust their vision, they choose to shoot the messenger. It’s certainly their right, but I’d hope they act otherwise.

Oh, yay, people on Twitter, the worst place in the internet, love the book! Validated!

I haven’t changed any subjects, I haven’t strawmanned anything. You’re now angry for some reason - even though your whole point has been defending someone’s opinion of something. Weird.
And it’s the second time your saying good bye. I’m sure you’ll be back to be angry a bit more.

Yeah because you always try to spin some new ********. Now you lie about what I am trying to say. And I should not be angry?! I am totally not defending what he said. I am defending his right to say that. Like proper liberals should. And also disagree with the interpretation of what he said as misogyny.

All I’m saying here is the current culture removes the ability to learn and grow from mistakes.

I’m not spinning anything. I’m saying the same thing over and over. Each time you or someone else tries to excuse him with some other spin on it, I use that back at you. And you’re just angry about it. It’s not my fault you don’t really have any leg to stand on other than to justify what he said with some equally terrible thing.

I have mixed views on this. People can and do change. You have people who held racist views in the past who are no longer racist. Are we going to keep punishing them for the past? I went to high school with a girl that was openly racist and her family was open with their views. I was absolutely shocked to discover a few years ago that she had been ostracized from her family for being in a relationship with a black man.

Lock people in prison for saying things you don't like. 😆

The modern Left really thinks like this.

If you ever wondered how societies end up with gulags and concentration camps, it's when a large enough percentage of people share this poster's worldview.
Modern left ? I am far right - just don’t like Facebook and former Facebook employees.. but no, friend I am far right Eastern European from
Poland.

I just wanted to thank MacRumors staff to leave the comentes section open for everyone to express their own opinions, no matter what side they are taking. Freedom of speech is always welcome! That’s how great societies learn and move forward, listening to different voices.
Sadly, your country is lacking this with a fake president in power.

I don’t know what disappoints me the most; Apple’s sorely lacking HR vetting measures, or the sheer toxicity, BS, whataboutism, etc. being spouted here on the MR community.

What part of a guy being an absolute prick, to the point of releasing a RECENT book with generalizations about a certain group from a certain gender and NOT apologizing for it, and parts of said group and other colleagues in solidarity turning against him to the tune of thousands being a recipe for disaster in the workplace do you not understand?

Also: oh, yes, those Sillicon Valley women are definitely special and don’t fit his stupid definition; with the number of women Apple employs, do you think the company would still be the most valuable one in the world otherwise?

Also also, as has already been said here: this prick really believes nobody but eurocrats cares about privacy, but Apple customers – the customers from the company he would be working for! – clearly do, as attested by the latest news regarding the almost unanimous negative response to privacy prompts in iOS 14.5.

Also also also: freedom of speech does not equal freedom from consequences – from society at large and the private sector, that is. Only the government and law enforcement will allow you – within reason; credible threats of violence are obviously off-limits everywhere in the world, even in democracies – to make a fool out of yourself. This guy? He effed around and found out. As for you, with your “cancel culture” crocodile-tear-weeping for this idiot chad prototype, I suggest you extract your heads from your rectums. You’re not doing yourselves any favors, really.
