It's unfortunate, but I think this and future generations of "Americans" are going to have to relearn some hard won lessons on freedom of speech, character, etc.

And I don't think the conflict will be orchestrated peaceably with zeros and ones.

I feel like cancel culture is giving uneducated, uninformed masses out there in the U.S. all the more reason to hate the people who bring about such calls for justice. And they get so mad that they elect Presidents who test the limits of our democracy and only seek to divide this country further.

Stop dragging people over the coals for something stupid and immature they said when they were younger. Stop making mistakes rolled off the lips or the pen of a person the sole definition of what they are.

Reading through quotes from his book and that Reddit post, I think he’s someone who Apple should have never hired in the first place. He’s not at all in line with their current privacy first, all inclusive marketing image or “vision.” I’m surprised no one noticed before he landed a job considering he’s fairly high profile.

Is it cynical to say this just shows how little Apple is concerned with these social issues beyond taking advantage of them for marketing purposes?

Just stop right there. In civilized countries people can't be fired for their views, unless they act on them in their workplace. Liberalism is not about loving everyone, but harming nobody. "I feel offended" doesn't count.

By your definition:
Germany is uncivilized for suspending and firing police officers who shared posts deemed offensive on social media (Although since it occurred above the weiẞwurstäquator some Germans would agree they are uncivilized)
UK because you can be fired for social media comments

as examples...

Have you seen the book? It's not supposed to be taken literally.

I don't know how to describe it. It uses colourful language and ridiculous exaggerations. I guess for entertainment purposes.
Then he probably should stick to his work as an autor. Entertaining people, you know. Not work at Apple with all those naive weak feminists.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

Haven't we all said things in the past we regret?

The rule seems to be don't get caught. I'm not a fan of that.

There should be some way for people to be forgiven. Why destroy a man's life because he once said a few rude comments about the women around him?
It’s to show the people who is really in charge now. We’re in a new age and social media is law. Your rights are being mocked in front of you. This is the step toward China social credit system. Welcome to communism USA

This is part of the long term strategy. The guy used to work for Facebook and Facebook = bad guys who steal our privacy and make troubles over Apple's new privacy policy, so Apple bring him in only to fire him for being yet another bad guy.

Apple reputation: +100
Facebook reputation -1000

PS - Apple still sucks for not allowing me to replace battery in my MacBook Pro. I'd be happy to remove it completely because it's swollen after 90 cycles, But I've heard that would dramatically reduce performance... Apple is a very expensive God and worshiping it requires lots of investments.

I half-agree, but if you look at his book, it's clearly quite tongue in cheek and not to be taken literally.

I don't understand how slightly offending some people is now a life destroying offence. Especially when most of the offensive is fake.

What is happening to society...
How do you know people were only "slightly" offended? You can't. Shouldn't people have the freedom to not work with a douchebag? He made his bed. He can lay in it. By himself.

The so called diversity brigades prove yet again that they will not tolerate any dissent or diversity of opinion. One day the woke snake will eat its own tail but until then we live in a dangerous age of intolerance and puritanism.
Instead of making comments about women, what if he said "Blacks or Latinos or Jews or [fill in the blank] are ___ or ___ or ___"?

Would you still dismiss it?

He "destroyed" his life. No one else did. If he doesn't realize that actions have consequences, he's not too bright. Why should normals have to dumb it down for him? I hate having a dumb coworker.

And why Apple has to keep him if he brings nothing but trouble to the company?
It seems that he didn’t just say it but also published that in a book?
What trouble did he cause?

When people tell you who they are, believe them. If someone posts something blatantly racist/sexist ect..., that's who they are. And here we have this doofus who wrote an entire book about it;

“His misogynistic statements in his autobiography — such as ‘Most women in the Bay Area are soft and weak, cosseted and naive despite their claims of worldliness, and generally full of ****’ (further quoted below this letter) — directly oppose Apple’s commitment to Inclusion & Diversity.”

More than 2,000 employees signed the petition before it was published by The Verge.
He said most, not “all”. There is a difference.

He said most of the women in San Francisco are weak naive feminists who are full of ****.

He also described a woman as being curvy and dressing well.
Poor guy was fired for speaking the truth. Him and Gina Carano should do a book together.

Funny how the Salem with trials were blamed on “the religious right”. What’s happening now is coming from “the religious left.”

Even if you don’t care about people, it’s worth realizing that putting someone with a history of publishing misogyny in charge of an organization that employs, interacts with, or exists on the same planet as women at a time when Silicon Valley companies have been hit with high-profile sexual harassment lawsuits is a financially unsound decision. Publishing that book was what we call a Career-Limiting Move.
Only in the eyes of the religious left.

The part where he made a generalized, sexist comment about a large number of people (some of whom are likely going to be or have been his co-workers).
Dr. Dre says ”Hi!”

Here’s the thing that stands out to me; he’s been fired by Apple for something about him outside of the company that a group didn’t like.
Regardless of specifically what it was; if he hasn’t done anything illegal/wrong within the office/role; then presumably Apple is subject to some employment laws giving protection against wrongful termination.

I’m not going to defend his opinions (especially as I’ve no inclination to even look into them), but equally; I’m not going to condemn him.

But then; it’s the definition of the current wokeism/fascism/cancel to target individuals with a disposable mob (a bit like a DDOS!)
I know I’m little better; not in-depth researching his life…

Obviously; there’s no-one who remembers witch hunts or other events of the middle-ages, but Americans had McCarthyism, so it’s less excusable for them.
McCarthy wasn’t wrong though. Over zealous, yes.

I’d say a little improvement is required in Apple’s Vetting Process. Heaven forbid they knew this at the time of Onboarding and it took an internal revolt for action to be taken. I wish I felt confident none of this was known prior to the hire.

The level of angry Alpha Males in here is fascinating. ;)
The defense of Apple’s move from beta males is more fascinating.

He should have just said "people" instead of "women" in that quote. Would have been just as accurate.
He just wanted to be inclusive to those who identify as women. 😆

Half-military organizations are different matter. Is Apple one? I wouldn't cite UK as positive example, since one of their judges likened the conduct of police officers harassing people for their tweets to the Gestapo.

This guy is going to benefit far more from his short interlude with Apple and associated controversy than he will be harmed.

Sales of his book will certainly be stronger as a result, for one thing (currently #4 on Amazon in both the Social Media Guides and Social Media for Business categories, for what that may be worth).

His home page bio ends with the statement "And now? I spend my days bobbing around on a small sailboat and writing this. I’ve imagined worse outcomes."

I don't know what the work culture is actually like at Apple. Their almost immediate response to the employee petition suggests that there may have been either a failure of their due diligence process, or his own disclosures to Apple were not compliant.

I think it's because people get off on the power trip of how easy it is to use social media etc. to ruin someone's life now.
Or how easy it is for lowlifes to take shots at people who don’t look or talk like them. And how easy it is for other lowlifes to defend those people under the guise of durrrrrr free speech.
