I half-agree, but if you look at his book, it's clearly quite tongue in cheek and not to be taken literally.

I don't understand how slightly offending some people is now a life destroying offence. Especially when most of the offensive is fake.

What is happening to society...
I read a lot of the book and found it to be humorous. I understand the outrage but I think he wrote it as a rant anyways.

Given what happened at Basecamp recently, I imagine Apple wanted to avoid an exodus of other employees.

Forgiveness can happen, but not without acknowledging the harm done and making some sort of amends.

This sums it up pretty well.

I think that Apple HR is hoping that firing him will limit the fallout, but this just shows how systemic these attitudes are in Apple culture if a creature like "him" could even be considered for hiring. Critical Sex Theory is based on the premise that all white cisgender males are toxic potential rapists and reap the benefits of their privilege while they seek to oppress and exploit people that are not of the same gender/sexual/racial identity. We need to root out this kind of repulsive backsliding from the HR department by replacing those that fit that profile with the appropriate quotas of those that do not fit that profile.

Apple is now a company based on hypocrisy. Do as I say not what I do.

They preach morals then are in bed with China. Hire an abuser of women and make him rich by purchasing his company Throttle users phones and then lie when caught until they couldn’t anymore. Claim thing in the name of the environment. 🤣🤣

Have you seen the book? It's not supposed to be taken literally.

I don't know how to describe it. It uses colourful language and ridiculous exaggerations. I guess for entertainment purposes.

Assuming it was a tongue in cheek comment, it shows that you cannot be working for a corporate and be funny at the same time. It’s a different world and you cannot offend anyone anymore. It’s easy to get someone to sign a petition because being arm chair activist has no repercussions.

This guy didn’t leave Apple any choice. Apple cannot convince the general public the context of the comments and why should they even go through the trouble. If you are in middle management or above its best to avoid being on social media or just post cat videos for your entertainment.

I'm not sure I agree with this.

Haven't we all said things in the past we regret?

The rule seems to be don't get caught. I'm not a fan of that.

There should be some way for people to be forgiven. Why destroy a man's life because he once said a few rude comments about the women around him?

The problem is the collective knee-jerk reaction of this society who LOVES to virtue-signal and heap coals of fire on people who have EVER said something "offensive" in spite of the fact that they have probably done the same or worse in their past. Because of this irrational society, the employee is now a liability for Apple because of social media pitchfork and torches mob, and they have no real choice but to terminate their employment. It's sad, but it's reality.

I just wanted to thank MacRumors staff to leave the comentes section open for everyone to express their own opinions, no matter what side they are taking. Freedom of speech is always welcome! That’s how great societies learn and move forward, listening to different voices.
Agreed. As long as facts are given and no ad hominem attacks are made it should be left open. The problem with most social platforms now is you aren’t allowed to have these discussions. Your view better be inline with the moderators or else…

This is hilarious

- He is basically saying that some women in the Bay Area are easily offended and overindulgent in a self-centered way ( while believing that they are extremely worldly) , and the same group reacts by being easily offended and acting in a very overindulgent and self-centered way...
They consider what he said mysogynistic because you know...a very tiny subset of the world's women population living in the Bay Area in the US are therefore representative of ALL women on the planet, regardless of their culture. They basically consider themselves as THE only yardstick, superior elite, to which all other women ( and men) on the planet should look up to in admiration and conform to.

Make no mistake, they are not upset because what he said is supposedly misogynistic, they are offended because someone is saying that that tiny Bay Area "elite" of women are not the superior "elite" that they think they are, and that other women from other places in the world might be far more interesting beings than them.

Deep down, they're basically just the good old stereotypes of MAGA rednecks that likes to boss everyone around, but camouflaging themselves in pseudo-progressism and a fake veneer of leftism, and they get furious when debunked for what they really are.

Lots of ( real) feminists has spoken in the past against the fakeness of this group, but got shut-down in an avalanche of Cancellism.

I know very little about this, but I guess my question is, did he ever try to make amends for the things said? If someone points to a misogynistic comment to prove a point, that's valid. But also valid would be a comment posted later apologizing, or recanting, or explaining. If that last bit doesn't exist, then I think that the initial complaint stands, and the dismissal is deserved. If it's the latter, then you need much more discussion.

It’s ironic how Apple keeps dr Dre employed when his music uses N-word and female derogatory words. Entire country is a laughing joke because China is more racist than any other country yet Apple still uses them to make their products. (I lived and worked in China for 13 years)
Not to mention Dre actually physically assaulted women. But Apple needed something to compete with Spotify. There goes morals.

Lock people in prison for saying things you don't like. 😆

The modern Left really thinks like this.

If you ever wondered how societies end up with gulags and concentration camps, it's when a large enough percentage of people share this poster's worldview.
Are you suggesting this poster is 'the left'?
Also your blanket statement is exactly that. Extremely presumptuous.

He used qualifiers before the word women. Are you aware of their purpose?
Implying I’m stupid doesn’t enforce your argument one bit. You, I and everyone else reading the quotes knows exactly what he meant.

It’s whether or not one thinks it’s an issue or not, offhandedly demoting a whole demographic of females to one generic stereotype.

I do. You don’t. That’s fine. I know who I would rather be.

Never lived there but been there enough to confirm.

In the decade or so I’ve been working with China I’ve yet to meet one African-Chinese person. 🤔

That and his music promoting killing of cops. Look at his 2009 album name. 187 on a mutherfxking cop. Apple should really stop their BS. Virtue signaling nonsense.
I agree. I love the Apple hardware. The App Store bs doesn’t intrest me too much.
I don’t even give a crap about dr Dre.

The social justice bs Apple spews is nauseating at times. Especially since they look the other way when it affects them. Hypocrisy at it best. Some people eat it up.

Do you feel the same way about the women he put down?

I would venture to say that just about every single person who has posted in this thread has said something at one point in their life that someone else could find offensive and get them "cancelled" if made public.
