My favorite workout is shoveling food into my mouth
I've often thought that rather than showing beautiful Apple people buying organic food from very middle class shops, they should, next keynote, have an alliance with KFC and show how family sized buckets can be purchased with just one click with the new Apple/KFC app. Then the watch could link in to show how much saturated fat you have consumed and how close to that heart attack you are. Be good to have the gimmicky sensors used for once!

Also if you fall over whilst waddling to the toilet, your watch could sense this, and determine when your KFC cools down to make it unpleasant to eat and thus automatically order you another!

It’s a real shame this is not on the Mac! I have one of my Mac mini connected to my living room tv. Which is the screen where I would want to use it. Let’s hope they get this sorted soon.
Me too, but the good news is I have an Apple TV connected to both bedroom (where Mac mini lives as my media server) and living room.

Really excited for this. I know they‘ve been working on it for years, but the way COVID-19 has “adjusted” so many people’s workout routines - it seems to be a great time to launch (also in proximity to New Years resolutions as well as incentive to gift/get an Apple Watch for the holidays).

I think this could be a really great platform for Apple. I'm hopeful that they'll expand it to the whole GymKit thing and let you sync up with your home equipment as well. I'd also like to see them work on making it more personal in the future and be able to give input about exertion levels in training and when you might want to go easy or pick up the pace a bit.

Don’t see the Fitness app as being available (yet) for iPad. Perhaps once I update to iPadOS 14.3?

I wish there was a way to access this on smart TVs. I have family members on my Apple One subscription who don’t have an Apple TV but would like to use this service. Is there a hardware reason this only works with iOS devices?

On Apple TV, it sounds like it's a new dedicated Fitness app. They probably need the dedicated app because of the plumbing required to get it to display your Apple Watch metrics during the workout.

There is a possible work around though: if you're talking about a smart TV that got AirPlay 2 in the past year, you could Airplay your iPhone display to the smart TV.

Do y'all know if there is anything to Fitness+ for us that don't have Apple watches but have the Premiere subscription? At least be able to use the videos?

Very curious to see how cycling works on Fitness+. I didn't seen any announcement for an Apple AirCadence sensor so hopefully they will allow my Wahoo one to connect to do a spin class properly.

I'm interested in this as well. I have an old Garmin 310XT with speed and cadence sensors, but it's old ANT+ instead of Bluetooth tech so it doesn't connect to my Apple Watch during workouts.

I've been looking at Bluetooth Wahoo-style speed / cadence sensors, but they're all really confusing, I think some you have to buy two to get both speed AND cadence, another one it's "flip the battery over" for speed OR cadence, etc. I'd like to know which one would work with Apple Watch, particularly for Fitness+.

I've just been doing "indoor cycling" on Apple Watch which gives me heart rate and time, and then letting Garmin track the speed/cadence during my workout so I can look down and see how fast I'm going, especially in the big boy gears.

I'm hoping it offers some kind of AirPlay. I'm still waiting on a refresh of AppleTV, and the one I have doesn't let you download new apps (been using an Amazon Fire Stick for that stuff).
So you have a 3rd gen? What was it that was stopping you from getting a 4th or 5th gen? And will the 6th be enough or will you wait for the 7th gen for that all elusive feature that finally makes it worth the upgrade?
It needs actual hardware/equipment to sync with in my opinion..
This is only my opinion, but hear me out. The problem then becomes you can only really get the benefit of it if you buy officially licensed equipment. The advantage to doing fitness+ the way they are is that it is equipment agnostic. You can use the stuff you already have. If there are added benefits to having a gymkit licensed product fine, but only if it doesn't take away the ability to use the stuff you already have. If you want locked in hardware/workout ecosystems, peloton, the mirror etc have you covered. I like that apple is at least trying to make this available to everyone to try out regardless of what you have in your home gym.

I also would like to see something allowing group workouts in the home. However, I don't really care how amazingly fit Karen and Ken from southern california are. So I disagree with the statement that it helps to benchmark against randos on the internet. As a matter of fact, for a lot of people it would be detrimental because they might feel like they aren't doing it right or good enough to justify continuing.

might try it as I feel just going to the gym is just more frustrating certainly when I seem to burn more calories walking for an hour than going to the gym for say 40-45 mins

Yes, because it's tied to apple watch for workout data. Which is tied to iphone to collect all of your workout and exercise history.

Funny. The third gen was fine for me and is still working, and I never saw the need to upgrade until last year when Disney+ was released and I couldn't use it on my AppleTV. If you recall, Apple hasn't had a refresh since 2017 for AppleTV. So pardon me for waiting in November 2019, thinking it was overdue for a refresh.

With Apple Arcade and heartier games such as The Pathless, I have been expecting a refresh with a new chip for quite some time. That's why I'm holding out. My Fire Stick does just fine for things that need apps, but I'm a little annoyed with Apple not refreshing the AppleTV for 3.5 years at this point.

Could I go buy one brand new right now? Of course. I just feel a little cheapened by the fact that it's already old tech with an old chip, and it seems like the second I buy one, the refresh I've been waiting on will come out.

it needs multi-user/group mode
There are two multi-user modes it needs (and I expect will get in a 1.1, 1.5 or 2.0 version):
  1. The first lets two or more people in the same room work out with their watches paired to the same AppleTV/iPad so that all users’ sets of metrics display on the screen (or in the case of the iPad, it might make sense to have an option to have two iPads synced so that users can have their screen but be working together).
  2. Shared classes that a group in different places can do together.
Both are interesting and valuable. I care more about the first, but I know there is a big demand for the second from people who do not live with a workout partner.
