Don't generalize, you may not care but for others like me, I care very much.

I want to make an announcement that I just bought the HTC One S. I was forced by apple to switch over to android. One year cycle for phones is just dumb and they are stupidly stubborn to keep sticking to that 3.5" screen. Since the launch of the original iphone there hardly has been any innovation at all. They gave me no option and so I had to buy from the competition.

Check out this bad boy next to my old iphone 4.

When it comes to speed this thing just blows the iphone out of the water. It is just insane how fast this thing is compared to the iphone. Webbrowsing is superfast. The screen is stunning too. 4.3-4.7" is the new 3.5". Trust me on this the phone isn't even bigger than the iphone. Its even more compact and user-friendly than the iphone because its substantially thinner.

Android has all the apps that I use on my iphone and even all of my favorite games. I am missing nothing at all in the software department. Although android is buggy as hell. I had a few apps crash on me already. I don't if this is a feature or a real bug where I did something wrong. It could also be just my imagination. But its a minor inconvenience. ios used to crash on me all the time too. Theres nothing to worry about. Another annoyance is all the bloatware that comes preinstalled on a brand spanking new phone. Way more than iphone ever has.

Overal I am very happy with my purchase. I don't miss anything on my iphone at all except maybe for the easy syncing but I got that covered too. Android is way more customizable too. That is a PRO and not con

Nice

Looking forward to more opinions because I am also planning to go with the HTC One series, possibly the One S!

Maybe an IM to you would have been more appropriate then.

When you do switch, please come in and make a thread about it..... we'll all be waiting on the edge of our seats!

I think OP is in the red.

Riveting tale, chap.

Guess what? I'm using an Android phone and cannot wait to get an iPhone.

*P.Diddy voice* TAKE THAT, TAKE THAT *P.Diddy voice*

My prediction is that the OP will decide he wants to go back to the iPhone sometime in the next 6 months. He will then decide to sell the HTC One S to try and get money for the new iPhone. Unfortunately, due to the low resale value of Android phones, the OP will be unable to gather the money to purchase a new iPhone. He will then resort to turning tricks to try and get the money. This will just turn into a messy situation that never had to happen.

Shouldn't you be frequenting Android forums if you want an opinion on Android phones?

I went for the One S mainly because of design. I put a lot of value on the materials being used for smartphones.

In addition a lot of benchmarks show that the qualcomm s4 cpu is better than tegra3 too. I also believe it will get better battery life, it is thinner (its razor thin!) and it is cheaper. That makes it a better allround device than the HTC One X. You can argue that the One X also has more storage and a NFC. Well NFC isn't going anywhere soon. It will take at least two more years before its a standard. By then I will already have switched to a new phone. And 16gb of storage just means I need to be more efficient. My 32gb iphone still has 12gb left. So I knew I wasn't going to use a lot anyway. The X has the better display but again its not like the display on the S is crap. I would say it is similar to the iphone4/4s. The iphone is definitely sharper but it also only a 3.5" screen. So in the end I am still going to strain my eyes. The colors on the S looks better than on the iphone too.

These are the only phones I would consider right now.

That is subjective. Not sure why so few seem to grasp the notion. Selecting a device is never a one-size-fits-all matter. It's great that you found the device that best suits you but it still falls into the "cool story, bro" file. Every option in life, including selecting a smartphone, has pros and cons on both sides. It's up to each person to decide what pros and cons they're willing to compromise with. If everyone's preferences were identical as some seem to assume then we'd all be using the exact same make and model of smartphone. Thankfully, however, in the real world there are options.

tl;dr version: Use what works for you but don't assume that what is best suited to you is best suited to everyone. No one person's needs/wants are universal.

Did you forget that you posted a photo of it right next to an iPhone and that you were typing this right under that photo?
Kudos you beat me to it. That phone is the middle stepchild in the HTC one series of the devices, yet is substantially bigger than the iPhone itself.

Until the day an Android phone has the likes of Infinity Blade II, Soul Calibur, proper support for Sky (Britain's biggest satellite TV provider) and their apps, and iPhoto, I'd honestly leave out serious app comparisons to the iOS platform to save face mate.

Android does, and always has, lacked the same level of quality as iOS when it comes to 3rd (and 1st) party apps.

Debatable. If you compare quality apps they are made by the same developer so the quality is the same or extremely similar. My two most used apps (tapatalk and Facebook) are WAY better on android. I'll admit android doesn't have the apps you mentioned but it's not all bad. I downloaded gta3, dead space, sonic cd, and shadow gun when they were on sale for 50 cents each. That's over 90% cheaper then the app store! Not saying 20 to 25 bucks normal cost is a lot but I wouldn't have downloaded them (never really play games) unless they were on sale.

The apps I find to be buggy can't really be compared. Like set CPU (for overclocking) or astro (file explorer/manager). If they are buggy its better then not having them IMO.

I'm not totally defending android either cause I've had plenty of "give me a break" moments but the iOS can be the same way. Matter of fact I'm copying this entire post so if tapatalk crashes as it likes to do when I hit then send button I won't have to retype it.

Please enlighten us how that is a bad thing.

You never held this thing in your pocket, you never held it in your hand, you never used it, you never carried it around for hours, you never had it with you for a couple of days and you know it better than me. An EXPERIENCED iphone user for YEARS that recently switch to android. In fact I was one of the first people that recognized ios as a serious gaming platform.

The iphone feels chubby, cramped and old in comparison to this phone. But its amazing that you know it better than me, a guy that has both devices.

I think the funniest things are the people that take offense to what the OP posted!

Personally, I don't really care that he got a new phone, but I enjoyed his post! The people who look really silly are the ones who post, "dude, we have enough of these threads already" or "did you have to tell us you got a new phone" posts.

This just in...this is a forum where people talk about the iPhone. The OP is talking about the iPhone, he's just talking about it in a way that some people, for whatever reason, take offense to.

For the record, I use an iPhone 4s and I'm happy with it, but do have to say the iPhone is starting to look somewhat stale. Don't get mad, those are just facts. That said, I'll be keeping my 4s until a new iPhone comes out.

I am the office self-confessed Apple fanboy - although the last few days I've been using an Xperia S - it was a free upgrade when I renewed my contract.

I know what the OP means about the bigger screen - yes the iP4 screen is very good, but with a 4.3" screen you can actually read the text without straining your eyes - I don't feel the extra size is a problem.

I was discussing the iP4 and the Xperia S with a colleague this morning and summed it up thus: if you want something that just works straight out of the box you won't beat the iPhone.. But, if you are prepared to do some research, playing, testing etc then the Android is indeed a very viable alternative.

If the iP5 has a bigger screen I will be very surprised if I don't switch back to iOS, but if it doesn't I'm sticking with the Xperia S.

This is a very informative and helpful post...some won't see it this way, but I appreciate your input.

LOL, that's what I was thinking.

As an aside, I just recently purchased an HTX One X. Lovely design and build quality, but far too big to be usable as a phone, and I find HTC's Sense UI to be exceedingly ugly. I really wish manufacturers would stop sticking skins on their devices; Google are perfectly capable of making a stylish, fluid UI themselves, so save yourselves the hassle and criticism!

The One S with stock ICS would probably be a really nice device... possibly still a tad too big. If they'd made if a 4" screened device with a higher resolution and stock ICS, it would be exceedingly tempting. As it stands, it'd require too many compromises over the 4S for it to tempt me away.

Good for you, Android members on a Apple forum, dont you have something better to do? You are just boring me to death.

Look at the OP's join date, he's been an apple member for 5 years. This thread is win because regardless of how loyal a Mac community member is, the second he tries a non apple device and (god forbid) shares his opinion like 99% of Mac rumor posts lately he gets totally crapped on by almost the entire community hahaha. Entertainment at its finest while at work. :D

Ok, back to all of you crapping on one of your 5 year brethren.

Off with his head!!!

So you have to be exclusive to the apple ecosystem to use this forum?

And I hate to tell you but YOU reading something that bores YOU is YOUR fault. So whine elsewhere.

I'm looking at Android myself. I currently have the 4. Jumped ship once(Evo) and hated it(mainly due to battery issues and freezes), but the top Android devices have come a long way since then.

If the next iPhone doesn't have a larger screen and/or redesign, then I'll be leaving the iPhone probably for the Note. But if it does include larger screen/redesign, I'll be staying.

I think the guys at Apple know pretty well, screen size will be the number one factor this time around.

I truly hope Apple doesn't screw this up, cause I do enjoy iOS and Apple's ecosystem above Android. And of course their great CS. But the final product is what counts above all.

It's foolish to ditch your iPhone now because you never know what's in store this fall. If you are happy with your One S, great, but saying Apple forced you to leave is silly. Yes the 4S leaves alot to be desired for some, but you might seriously regret your jump if the next iPhone is awesome.

The smarter move (which I'm most likely doing) is making a decision on my next smartphone once I see what Apple has to offer this fall.

My point is that you guys looks like you are trying to convince yourself over and over again about the idea that you did something great by switching. It looks like you need to place that idea on your mind all the time. You switch, good for you, you are trying to convince yourself, not me...

Apple forced you to take the leap

Funny,
I feel just the opposite. Apple, it's ecosystem, with the great OS, the great phones, the great tablet, and great computers. Apple has forced me to continue to buy their products, and use them happily.
