lower than amazon warehouse workers in 2005 or now? also, very different jobs in terms of labor, don't you think?
Do you think the worlds biggest online retailer would give the staff who make them the worlds biggest online retailer a bonus? Or a raise? Or a toilet break?

The non profit hospital I work for gave everybody $1000 “bonuses” for the same. I think a multi trillion dollar for profit company can do better than this…

I started at over $15/hr at an Apple Store back in 2005. Was making more than that when I left 5 years later.
It’s still $15…additionally it depends what area you work in such as if I work in SF I get started at $28 for Specialist role due to high cost of living but if I work in Riverside I could even start at $15. It hasn’t changed for the better

Apple is funny. I did love working there though. This $1,000 will probably be more like $600/$700 after taxes.

I mean, the benefits/perks are great. ESPP, EPP, RSUs… There are a lot of great reasons to work in Apple Retail, but everyone’s experiences are different.

Bonuses are easy for a company to give and expense. Salary and hourly wage is a long term commitment. $15 an hour us not a living wage. Benefits are also important. Like Medical, Dental, 401k.

Since apparently $1k is a “joke”, how much do they deserve? $2k? $5k? $10k? Why not $50k a piece?

All fun and games until you consider how much that will cost for the number of employees they have.

Let’s do the same with wages. $20 an hour? $30? $50? $100?

At the end of the day, you’re paid what you’re worth, and while you may have an idea of what that is, you don’t get to decide it. If the company won’t meet your needs, find another company or work for yourself. It’s up to you to make your worth known. “I deserve it” doesn’t count and shows you don’t really value the compensation and take it seriously.

Apple is already higher than the industry standard according to another commenter, and it’s an *industry* standard, not an Apple standard. You can’t tell me every single retail company in the US is in cahoots to keep wages low because that’s not even close to the truth. Some companies can afford it, some can’t and some just try to keep up.

Please see the question mark at the end of my post. No, I don't know nothing about retail wages, I just asked if is related to low wages, something very common in retail workers and in the US.
The truth is, retail work is some of the easiest work out there. You’re not in a hot kitchen cooking behind a hot stove. You’re not working overnights. You’re not meeting sales quotas or managing people, payroll, schedules, etc.

It’s a job where you sit in a climate controlled environment and put in relatively little work for most of your day compared to most industries.

Want a higher wage? Find a job that isn’t so easy to do.

Ehh… Apple Retail (like any job) was stressful at times. On your feet ALL day and often-times helping multiple annoying people at once (who are right in front of you). Being micro-managed by managers, having to hit quotas etc.

If you’re a Team Lead, you’re running the floor, making sure people are where they need to be and also dealing with escalations.

Dealing directly with the public and their first-world, entitled problems— is not easy.

You deal with people at pretty much any job. Micromanagement happens at a lot of places too.

Hate to point out the obvious, but giving employees money, wouldn't that just 'encourage" people to keep working from home? The reserve of what Apple wants them to do.

It may be a 'one-time' bonus, but many 'one-time' things have also been extended as well in the past. Only time will tell how far this goes.

What a lovely holiday bonus. And unlike my former employer, they’ll actually pay the bonuses (instead of making a big announcement about it then silently never paying them out and denying it weeks/months later).

Anyone criticizing this move has never worked for a scum-of-the-earth employer like that before.

Give them RAISES damnit. Apple can afford it and it would do a lot of good to be a leader in paying retail workers better wages.
They already make more than minimum wage I believe. Raises would be great but a $1,000 bonus is still good. Most companies just giving people cookies and free lunch.

$1000. I reckon thats all Apple could afford after lavishing $750,000,000 in tenth year stock options to Cook. They love their idea of fairness and equality.

Plus a yearly bonus based on stock performance. Heck Walmart employees get this every quarter.

It’s time Apple recognizes the low grunts of their workforce that have to deal with pissed off customers direct theft in the store potentially risky decisions affecting their jobs when not their fault.

comeon Diedre out your mouth where your wallet is and properly pay these retail employees.

honestly I miss in store shopping experiences. There are times, and I’ve highlighted 2 before, where an employee goes above and beyond l, not necessary, yet welcomed to make my shopping experience better. The bravery of a deaf sales rep working in a hearing world able to keep customers jumping in front of a patient lineup, politely with a smile telling rude customers that interrupt a conversation between employee and customer working with truly brightened my view of customer experiences. All while using an iPad mini for his voice and internal iMessage chat to get other employees to help only when needed (can’t leave his work station area).

wow haha one thousand dollars that will totally fix all the mental and physical damage that retail workers took selling luxury toys during a global pandemic

you're damned if you do)
It’s not a good gesture. It’s a survival action to keep employees as our country enters a phase of inflation led by irresponsible fiscal and loose monetary policy.
Company management does what’s best for the best interests of the owners of the company. Employees benefit when their benefit is beneficial to tue company and it’s owners.

So Tim Cook cashed in over 600M in stocks . If I was him I would of blah be all of my employees at least 10K & Free Mac Product of their Chose & food. People love food

The Goal is to crash the $$. Welcome to the NWO

Nobody wants to work retail. I used to work retail back in the day. Have you heard of the job shortage?

Have I heard of which one? My wife is a district administrator at our local school district and I know that problem is massively real. As in they have had to just not offer bus service for large areas of kids because there just aren't drivers and it has been happening and getting worse for several years now.
