I doubt they will have a camera for privacy reasons. Although it would be nice to shoot photos or videos from your point of view. $499 would be a great price. I thought they will be around $1500. Will wait until Version 2 or 3, when all app developers were able to implement nice features for the glass.

They'll have to come up with a use model that people want. Otherwise, like all things AR/VR, it's dead in the water.

One idea I have: Overhead display for traffic/biking navigation.

yup already being done as well as presentation notes, etc.

Besides the AR capabilities that Google's didn't have, Google screwed up by making something that screams "I'm a tech nerd, please call me a glasshole!". Apple's version will surely look more like traditional glasses and won't turn off non-tech nerds. Apple's way of doing it is how eventually wind up getting millions of people, including those who don't need to wear glasses, wearing your glasses.
Apple’s conundrum is precisely the look of the glasses. Do they make them look like real glasses and disguise the fact that they are smart glasses with sensors or do they make them distinctive enough so that consumers recognize an Apple Glass user from across the room?

One of the biggest reasons why Apple Watch, AirPods and even the iconic white EarPods are so successful is due to their recognizability. Can Apple replicate that formula without turning off people and scaring them away from technology that can potentially break personal privacy barriers?

Everyone complains Apple doesn't innovate anymore, and then when we finally hear about something that's new and innovative and people complain that it'll be a flop. it's Apple... they don't do flops, think about it...
Still not innovative. Already in market and cross platform. Apple is always the second mouse who gets the cheese.

I can’t believe this. Apple glasses are going to be some VR/AR Headset like the oculus go/quest is or something like that. No way another fashion accessory with 2050 tech in it.

What I don't get about this, is what exactly does it does better than the iPhone or the Watch?

Getting notifications directly on your field of vision, without having to see your phone or watch is the only advantage I can think of.
This could be a great spectacle!

This is the only advantage it needs. Can’t you see? There are plenty of times during my work where I could benefit from a hands and arms free display.

If you’re trying to avoid leaks to retain announcement-day excitement, then you’re on the wrong site my friend.

The last time I got excited about anything from Apple properly was iOS7. The ship has long since sailed.

I mean, generally though why leak everything important and worth noting now? Why not just announce it already. There’s definitely a reason, ‘leaks’ nowadays are done on purpose.

Also, now that the name has been leaked, I think we can all agree it's terrible and must therefore be the fake name, or else was the name but is no longer now that it has been leaked, so hopefully we get something with a great name.

iSee would be a million times better... anyone got any better names?

Apple iSight!

Bring back the name! iSight is back in a new form!

Apple Windows...oh wait. :)

How about AppleLens or AppleView?

This is literally everything I expected. Some of this definitely isn’t new, we’ve seen references to Starboard already in iOS. Most curious about the physical design. Holo Lens style won’t do it, it has to be a “normal” to other members of society form factor

I am amazed at all the naysayers on here with regards to AR. Like, do you literally think we are at the apex point of computing and there is nowhere else to go? The form factors are final? This is the best we can do? No mate, some mixed reality is clearly the next logical evolutionary leap here, just as pad form devices were to the keyboard and mouse. What’s the use case? Have you literally never seen a Marvel movie? We’re aiming for Tony Stark here, not Google Glass. Getting it right is the tricky part.

I'm looking forward to this because I expect similar to Apple Watch, style and design will be incredibly personal. Meaning I can get half-frame or hipster style or wood or whatever else is in style. Glasses are even more fashionable than watches as far as personalization so I expect apple to give us a lot of options.
No doubt the Pride rainbow one will be a big seller. Great colour combo to have on ones face ;)

They stopped with the "i" marketing for new products when the Apple Watch came out... don't get your hopes up.
And Jon Prosser is a very prominent leaker with crazy sources really high up the chain, believe what you hear. And the thumbnail is fake, its going to look like regular glasses as not to scare off the average consumer.

Interesting how 9to5mac *still* doesn’t do any of his reports. I haven’t seen them report on him or give him credit on anything for the last month. Are they holding a grudge?? If I got on their page now, nothing is up. Whereas MR and AI have it plain as day. This is a pretty big leak

Just a lack of vision on apple’s part. Lol. Can’t say I know enough to say much other than first gen will suck. Probably lives off iPhone like the watch. I’d be curious enough to try.

I'd be interested in a HUD embedded in the glasses to relay some app data on the iPhone, but AR? Not the least bit interested

I’m still trying to see (pun intended) the utility in this product as a mass consumer gadget. Specialized scenarios are specialized but as a mass market consumer electronics good will it succeed? We will see. Myself, I don’t intend to buy it.

And the world now needs this because... Google Glasses were such a main stream hit?
Pass for now. Also, my prescription is too high and expensive and the last thing I need is something permanently distracting me even more.

Google Glasses was a total failure because the price was insanely high ($2K as I recall) and there was no software for it.

I feel like this product has immense possibilities for dealing with harassment and abuse, both sexual and police. No longer will it be that we just have one party accusing the other of harassment and the other denying it and having to just believe one or the other with no evidence. It'll be like having a dash cam in your car - when somebody harasses you, you tap a button and the last ten minutes of what you saw and heard are stored to iCloud.

This will always help the honest party, whether it's a falsely accused person or person who is dismissed because their attacker has powerful connections. Getting first person video should make it particularly powerful emotionally.

Who the heck will be doing your prescription lenses? The same jokers who are contracted to build the butterfly keyboards (Doctor, "Why am I seeing in triplicate?" Don't worry, it was a feature with the keyboard. It is normal).

Or the ones who built the white spot in the iPad displays? Or the ones who put the too short cable in the laptop? Lots of possibilities, none of which will help your vision.

Not having my hopes up, but I am curious and willing to entertain that these might be good. Particularly:
  • I could have some use for these even just for augmented reality navigation. I do stuff that keeps my hands occupied and where it's impractical (but not impossible) to have screens around.
  • Tech has shelf life. Thus, pushing these back just because of an announcement half a year sounds a bit odd. Not that it could not be done especially since that can be used to improve software, but...
  • $500 price isn't that bad if they work well and provide enough use cases. Competitors I've looked at for my use cases would cost way more.
  • Okay... curious to see about that battery life.
