I'm 41 and yep, sure do. It's way better than most s*** that's put out now.

(I'm 38, and I like some of Drake's stuff.)

I'm not saying I don't listen to new stuff, I do. Most of it's junk though.![]()

come again?
That's the issue the poster was trying to highlight.I'm 41 and yep, sure do. It's way better than most s*** that's put out now.
You do because idk what youre talking about. Idk why youre “giving me a warning” when i’m stating an opinion..Do I really need to draw you a diagram?
Even given all of that... how do they make the leap to thinking he can create great TV and film content? Apple needs to worry less about having a "cool" personality, and focus more on finding creative writing and directing talent who have a history of producing successful content in TV/Film.LOL at all these people on MacRumors revealing themselves to be completely not in the targeted demographic at all.
I don't love or hate Drake but he's one of the biggest things in music these days. Not only massive on a commercial level but mostly on a critical level as well. His latest, the mixtape More Life has a Metacritic score of 79 and most of his previous albums have positive reviews. Also give him credit for being a hiphop star more than a rapper - he's brought a lot of elements of world music into the mainstream. And he basically jumpstarted The Weeknd's career.
He was also an actor first (Degrassi), and musician second, so this makes some more sense than it might initially seem.
On top of that, he's proven himself to be extremely savvy at marketing and utilizing the power of the internet. The video for Hotline Bling is a good example, not taking itself too seriously with the dancing and eye-grabbing enough that it spawned countless memes. Plus that video basically looks like a tongue-in-cheek Apple ad.
Apple is not going to work with anyone obscure, or even a mid-level band. Drake is the right kind of "cool" that they want to bring to their brand, massive on a world level, but also still considered "in" (despite what Macrumors posters would have you think) by the most coveted demographics, and has proven to be very aware of his image. He absolutely fits in with the Apple aesthetic in a way that I can't even think of a single other musician that would.

Based on the above this could be a good thing.Take a mediocre rapper ...snip
Netflix doesn't need Apple. They don't enter the pool far enough "no sex/violence/drugs never- just G/PG please!" and then they jump in head first "do whatever you want, you're Drake, it's fine!"
Apple is not skilled at this game, at all. Just buy Netflix and get it over with.
I'm not sitting here telling people their taste in music is bad.. i'm just saying in THESE days drake is at the top. Numbers speak for themselves whether you or anyone else in this post likes him or not. Appreciate greatness when its in front of your face.. He is leading the industry, he isnt all flashy with money or women. Hes a genuinely good person... Do you think people who hated Michael Jackson back in the day are sitting back now saying hes horrible and sucks and is over rated? highly doubt it.The irony warning was for everyone else. We need to know when to take cover so we don't get irony all over our shoes.
Look, if you are going to smh someone maybe you should not do it with quite smh yourself. Most of us go through a period in our lives when we think whatever we happen to like is the most important thing in the world and anybody who doesn't share our preferences is just too old or unhip or to get it. After awhile most of us come to realize that entertainment religion is especially pointless and boring, it changes all the time, and for sure isn't a good way to judge other people.

When Apple starts bringing forward popular youtube or twitch personalities to create content for their platform, we will know they have truly lost their way.
This is awful. Music people aren’t tv/movie people!! I can’t scream this enough at the ‘geniuses’ behind all of these awful moves by Apple. Everything they’ve done is one flop after another. Stop wasting money!!

Why wait? Apple has decided they’re going to make strong, original content and they’re backing Drake—who’s partnering with Steve Golin of Anonymous Content and film studio A24. That’s how you get strong, original content.I could possibly see this happening further along when Apple had a track record with strong original content, but now?
Wish Apple would stop trying to be something they're not, and get back to making products that allow Drake, Future and others to create (and in turn, sell on iTunes.)
I am beginning to wonder if my Apple loyalty is even worth it anymore. Charge more, do less and/or waste money. Meanwhile, the very things they make for creatives to be truly creative are hung out to dry.
The camera bump and the notch are both examples of form following function. I’m sure Ive would be happier without both. But engineering, marketing and manufacturing trade offs are constantly in play.It seems as if this "do whatever you want" directive has also been given to Jony Ive, and perhaps some others, as well. Many of us here (myself included) thought that Jony needed to be left to his own devices so that he could continue creating great products that would likely carry some semblance of Steve's imprint after he passed away. However, it has become clear to me in the intervening years that Jony probably needed Steve to keep him grounded and remind him that form should follow function when it comes to creating great products.
Apple doesn’t need Netflix. They both can find/fund original content. Sure, hire away their best people, but there’s no reason to buy Netflix. They’re both competing for the best content from here on out.Netflix doesn't need Apple.
Remember when Apple made insanely great computers with software and updates that were insanely great as well? I miss those days.

Far from waiting longer, Apple should have started at least 2 years ago, but it’s never too late to start. If there’s room for 10 players there’s room for 11, especially if one of them has a war chest like Apple’s.
No one in the know would ever compare Drake to Sisqo. Secondly, Drake instantly surpassed Sisqo quite a long time ago. Sisqo had one hit album as a solo artist. It’s not that he’s a rapper, rather he’s a crummy rapper. Sisqo could carry a tune better than this guy.

Take a mediocre rapper and give him as much cash as he wants to make whatever he wants. Could work I suppose, but it stinks of Samsung's throw crap at the wall and see what sticks approach. Apple are putting their name on more and more crap.
That is conservative. Drake is tame compared to some musicians.
What would you consider 'safe for the brand' ?
Confusing comment here.
what era are you talking about?
and what is 'his muddy pond'?

Netflix is losing lots of money lately. Seems like a no brainer to buy but the pace at which it loses money should be concerning.
